Erm, so this move at kicker looks pretty questionable right now. Hopkins going was justified in reality, but my God how do you end up with a guy who prefers to kick the ball at people instead of through the uprights.

Btw, for those of you who believe the problem is the long snapper... you can replace him, too. There are over 250 college long snappers who get it done pretty much every game, every year in college. It can't be rocket science to get one who can figure out the timing that needs to go into a field goal kick. 

 

Staying pat is okay if you think that the players can improve and figure it out. It doesn't make much sense on a 2-6 team. What's the worst thing that can happen? The replacement player makes a mistake that costs you a game? Where are you going that wins matter? Getting the team right is more important than settling for mediocrity.

 

On the other hand, we can make an argument that if Blewitt made those two field goals and the score was 17-16 heading into the last minute... we were in field goal range to win the game... but who knows how the game plays out if we make the kicks. Their guy missed kicks too..

I was disappointed when they didn't sign Hajrullahu, who is a longtime CFL veteran with a track record. I would give that guy a shot or, to your point, sign a guy off a practice squad who is behind a a proven kicker

when we got rid of Hopkins, he was 12/14 on FGs....NFL.com FG stats now show him as being 25/29 on FGs this season.

I was fine moving on from Hopkins.  I would have to think there is a better kicker out there than Blewitt. 

 

I guess not.

 

Maybe we should draft a kicker in the 6th round...  (that's a joke.  Though I don't mind the 6th for Cheeseman as much as some do.)

Yep.  Ron needs to stop piling up mistakes.  He needs an uninterrupted run of success because we're digging quite a hole of failed personnel and coaching decisions and it calls into question the chance of success of a coach centric model, and specifically him as that coach.  This mistake seems minor in the grand scheme but it was such a spectacle of a mistake that it looks really bad.
