Can anybody tell me why in the blue hell would someone donate to this Michael Cohen Truth Fund Go Fund Me page? He's made $130,000 on it so far. Positive reinforcement, I guess? I don't get it.

Lanny Davis was referring to it the other night as "support"...?

I assume that his assets are frozen and Lanny needs to get paid.

If this were any other Presidential administration, I'd say "Relax.  They'll get their stories straight in a day or so."

But this one?  No, they probably won't.  They'll just throw out 6 contradictory stories, and their followers will even ignore the fact that the stories contradict.

Just now, Momma There Goes That Man said:

I'm sure "ignorance of US law" is a very effective offense for illegals when they commit a crime...

Wait, are you saying we can just deport him?

No, I'm saying "i didn't know it was illegal" doesn't work for people who have been here for 2 months and it doesn't work for people we elect POTUS either.

well we first have to establish it was illegal for him.

^^^ And that's how low we've sunk in our expectations of the Presidency of the United States.

"He conspired, weeks before the election, to pay off a porn start and a Playboy bunny he cheated with to keep their silence, but hey, that might not be illegal."

(BTW, it's illegal.)

saw a interesting spin

he is off the hook since Cohen knew more about the law than him.

:bunny:

This is my favorite defense of Trump, whether it's Cohen, the Comey firing, etc: "It's OK because he's an idiot who doesn't know anything about anything."

I blame the Clintons :)

I just posted a opinion from a law professor and former head of the FEC saying something different.

Thank God he’s not in charge of enforcing the law...

Let's ask Michael Cohen whether it's illegal when he's sitting in jail after pleading guilty to it.

I've been saying for, oh, 15 years that the justice system is overly dependent on plea deals that are driven by overcharging that is made terrifying by mandatory sentences.

Having said that, Trump's problem with all of this is basically, "Look, we put all this stuff in place to send minorities to prison. It was never meant to touch rich white guys like me."

Exactly

If Trump didn’t become President, none of these people would have investigations.

We need to drop “white collar” and just call them criminals.

This whole line of thinking turns on the notion that the payments weren't campaign contributions.

Here's the problem, at least one of the people involved, and possibly more than one, agree it was for campaign purposes, and presumably would testify to that fact.

And of course, lending weight to the campaign finance violation aspect is that Cohen is not some random guy, he was Trump's fixer.

He would presumably know whether this payment was in the normal course of Trump business or if it was campaign related.

And he seems to think it was campaign related.  Hence the plea.

Simply the timing of the arrangements make it clear that they were campaign-related expenditures.  Trump had a 10-month affair with Karen McDougal in 2006-2007.  The agreement to kill her story was signed in August 2016, nearly 10 years after the fact and during the campaign.

The timing with Stormy Daniels is nearly exactly the same.

Actually this is incorrect. Supposedly he can't be indicted ("the President has not been charged with anything, therefore he did nothing wrong"). Works pretty nicely for him. The thing that needs to be done is to convince 16 to 20 Republican Senators to vote to convict this guy. That's why these things take time.
