I don’t think either system is perfect. The problem with the popular vote is that two states (Cali and NY) could singlehandedly sway the entire process and unfortunately they don’t speak nor deal with a lot of the issues plaguing the Midwest and the south. White middle

class Los Angeles citizens don’t prioritize the same issues as, say, some farmer in Tennessee.

This dismissed the very large rural population of both states. Plus, why would 1 farmers issue be more important than 100k white Middle class LA peoples issue?

There is no perfect system but one where my vote for President counts the same as someone in Wisconsin makes a lot more sense to me than what we have right now. As far as I'm concerned, local representation at the federal level is why people should be more interested in their Reps and Senators.

But the thing is, there is still a ballot full of local politicians that effect local policies more than the President which the people of CA/NY and anywhere else have zero say on other than their own counties/cites/states.   The purpose of the President has never been to reach into every state and city to decide laws it is to lead the country as a whole on some key issues, but ultimately it is still your state/local elections that determine the laws of where you  live.  This is why I have never bought into the idea that popular vote for President is "tyranny"

On the whole "If you tell Trump supporters how awful they are, how do you expect them to react?" thing?  Well for starters, most Trump supporters I have encountered aren't exactly shy and humble about what they think about "libtards" either.  It's not like they are being bullied about it, it is more giving back to them exactly what they give out.  I am always down for a rational conversation about policy with anyone, hell back before the mass conservative member exodus that took place here on this board, there was healthy debate in the tailgate all the time (Bush era to about sometime in first year or so of Trump era). I have some Trump supporting acquaintances who anytime politics come up I can't penetrate the fox talking points because that is all they want to offer, and any pushback I give is automatically written off as "that's because you watch MSNBC"   The whole "talking to a brick wall" stereotype is true. Sorry, but it is.

My cousin flew out from San Diego for Xmas in 2016 and she wanted to hit up Cracker Barrel. So we’re sitting there waiting for our breakfast to arrive and this older white guy strikes up a convo. At first, it was like “Oh, no. It’s an old guy that’ll probably be a Chatty Cathy and won’t know when to end the convo.” But then, during the initial small talk, he asks her where she’s from. When he heard she was from California, he immediately gives the lame “land of fruits and nuts line” and starts to lament about how messed up California is with all the socialism, “illegals,”drugs, bums, etc. and how Tя☭mp was going to fix all that. He was with his daughter and she looked like she wanted to just melt into the ground. They were finished eating so she butted in to say they had to go. On the way out, she mouthed an apology.

I’ve mentioned before that I used to travel to rural Georgia a lot for my last job. A lot of the people I used to work with friended me over the years. Some of the stuff that comes out of their mouths unprompted is pretty shocking sometimes. Not because they say such horrendous stuff, but that I knew these people for the better part of 10 years and thought of many of them as work “friends”. So no, that whole deal about not bashing people’s heads against the wall and maybe we can just all get along stuff isn’t cutting it for me. When they do that, I will.

@MisterPinstripe I take issues with trying to use the "both sides" argument in regards to the current state of the country. There is a large segment of the population who don't accept provable facts and completely refuse to acknowledge anything that challenges their worldview. Frankly, I'm done trying to treat them like we're still all just Americans who have slightly different opinions on why John McCain has a better plan for America than Obama or whatever.

I am in no way defending the right, if this site was more right leaning I would be directing it towards them. There are of course some people that cant be reasoned with, and a lot that will not be reasoned with because everyone is attacking each other and defensive. With Trump having 67 million votes I guess those are 67 million scum that aren't worth anything anymore. Politics is a cesspool of everything wrong with this country and I guess I'm just worn out by it all. If you don't think that the left also contributes to that then I don't know what to say. No ones **** stinks.

I know a lot of people that voted for Trump, and just the fact that they know I find Trump to be morally reprehensible and not fit to be President, makes them pause and ask questions and think. So don't tell me that civility and kindness cant do anything, I have seen first hand people being way more open when they aren't being attacked.

Right seems to be crying that WI counted more votes then voters.   (think it came from Rush Limbaugh)

WI has same day registration.

this has been going around and it’s factually untrue.

here is what they are saying:

but the voter registration numbers are from 2018.

registration in 2020 is over 3.6 million which is easily shown on the elections.Wi.gov website

philly county (PA's most populated county) STILL at only around 60% counted. that means biden is gaining, and there's still hundreds of thousands of ballots of heavily blue ballots left. as long as there's no nonsense with stopping votes, i really see biden taking PA

Republicans being so focused on PA makes me even less confident in Nevada.  PA doesn’t matter if Biden holds onto Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada.  Republicans know that.

or they are just seeing where the #s are favoring biden in PA, and know trump has ZERO path if he loses MI and PA

They have to regardless because its their only play. Fight PA and hope one of AZ and NV flip. They can’t contest either now but they need 2 of 3

Again, I ask anyone who is still doing the "both sides" thing. How am I supposed to reason with and listen to people who believe this nonsense and refuse to do even a quick Google search to check the accuracy of whatever their favorite radio or television host is telling them?
