  1. Hunter didn't make it any further than the 2009, 2015, 2016, or 2017 teams - which all lost very competitive second-round series.
  2. Let's be honest, the power play is almost worse than even strength right now. They were very fortunate it was basically a 5v3 due to a broken stick or the Caps probably wouldn't have scored a single goal last night.
  3. I'm used to the Caps making sure every series (except the SCF) goes 6-7 games, so normally I wouldn't be too concerned. However, the loss of Oshie combined with only scoring 1 goal in 2 full games has me a lot more worried than I'd be otherwise. The play on the ice looks pathetic at times and I'm not sure if it is due to guys nursing injuries or what but hopefully the home crowd can get them going again.
  4. I can't help but be disheartened by the precedent this will set for long after the current POTUS leaves the White House. Basically, you can do whatever the hell you want and be as corrupt as you want - just make sure your political party controls at least one branch of government so you can't be kicked out of office or face consequences for your actions.
  5. The bar is strictly based on the letter next to the President's name and that much has to be obvious even to some of the trolls currently posting in this thread.
  6. I think the story I heard that made the most sense for how everything transpired last year was something like this: - Management had started to lose confidence in Trotz after they failed to beat Pittsburgh again in the 2017 playoffs and had identified Reirden as the coach-in-waiting when Trotz's contract expired - It became obvious to Trotz that he was essentially a dead man walking and that there would be no plans to offer him a contract extension - The team wasn't playing particularly well and it looked as if missing the playoffs was a possibility so it was planned that Trotz would be fired when the team returned from a West Coast trip in early March - The Caps began to turn it around in the last game of that trip when they won in San Jose for the first time in something like 25 years, so they shelved the idea of firing him The rest is history but I don't think Trotz had any intention of coming back after he felt disrespected by management/ownership and I can't say that I blame him. GMBM has a ridiculously high batting average so hopefully this another one where he made the right decision and Reirden is the coach for a long time.
  7. I'm sure Danny is the nicest guy in the world but he really has no business hosting a sports radio show in a market as large as DC. This was proven again this past weekend when he was on twitter openly bragging that he was not watching a single second of Tiger Woods at The Masters as it was becoming obvious Tiger was going to win. I'm sorry but given his profession you would think he'd want to at least fake like he was paying attention to what is one of the biggest sports stories of the year - and possibly, decade. Add that to Grant being insufferable on the radio show (I thought he was a great beat reporter) and this is why I make zero effort to listen to 106.7 during their timeslot. I guess I wrote that wall of text just to say that I'm not sure Danny Rouhlier and Thom Loverro speak to how most sports fans in the region feel. I guess I could be wrong but I certainly don't get that impression.
  8. I mean does anyone really care what Thom Loverro thinks? If I remember correctly, he also had an awful take after the Ovechkin fight the other night and I don't even think he enjoys hockey. Baseball and boxing are the only sports he discusses where I get the impression he actually cares about the subject.
  9. just curious, what are the clear improvements on offense? They're much worse on faceoffs which hurts both offensively and defensively Also, the biggest issue is #92 is not playing anywhere close to the level he played last year. I tend to agree with Alan May when he says that the Caps can go as far as Kuznetsov can take them. I'm not sure if he is still suffering effects from the concussion or what but he'll need to be a lot better for them to have a chance at repeating the success from last season. Maybe there are some advanced stats out there that proves they are better offensively but I certain don't see it.
  10. I think the Caps can beat them but I wouldn't write them off so quickly. Trotz is a great coach with the advantage of having 4 seasons to learn everything there is to know about the players on this roster. The Islanders and Jackets are showing why I was very hopeful the Caps could avoid them in round 1. The Caps played great to start that series to go up 3-1 and then played well most of the rest of the series, but Halak just became scorching hot (coincidentally or not it started after Ovi taunted him for having a shaky glove hand). What's going on with Tampa is just crazy at this point.

    2018-19 NCAA Basketball Thread

Maybe I missed it but what exaclty have you proven in regards to Duke? Avenatti's tweets? lol That said, it would be one of the least surprising news stories ever if it came out his tweet was correct and I absolutely believe there is even more shady stuff going on behind the scenes than just bogus "consulting fees". The only thing I'd be interested in is exactly how much the high level coaches know as fact or if it's more of a case of them not wanting to know so they can claim ignorance. I just find it comical that you don't think the exact same thing is happening at Kentucky if you believe it is happening at Duke.

Apparently haha I guess I should have done more research.
  13. I would guess going to Kettler would be the easiest way to get it and you could definitely call to make sure they still have it in stock. Arena store is usually a gamble as they don't always have what I expect them to for whatever reason.

"Nike recruits" Are you seriously acting like anything that has possibly been going on at Duke isn't also going on at least as much at Kentucky during the Calipari years?
  15. I thought it was confirmed he was on the tapes agreeing to the whole thing? LIsted as "spouse" or something in the transcripts.
  16. I think they'd need to start Game 1 of any potential series with Tampa playing the way they played Games 6 and 7 last year to have a decent chance of winning the series. I certainly think they're capable of doing that so I hope they are able to reach that point again as it would be a really fun series to watch.

    Podcast Recommendations

After realizing I was starting to have major fatigue from DC-area sports talk radio I've recently started listening to podcasts to occupy my time during my daily commute home, etc. My current favorite is Pardon My Take which is a very nice change up from typical sports talk. Does anyone have recommendations for other good podcasts to check out?
  18. Disagree quite a bit. I like the fact that the team seems much faster now that Hagelin and Jensen are playing. I already knew not to expect great finishing or anything from Hagelin but have to hope he is able to score or assist on some timely goals. He's been great at eating clock on the PK as well, which was expected.

Trump and his cabinet/buffoonery- Get your bunkers ready!

You're literally repeating talking points that have been proven as complete fabrications and then trying to act like you want to have an honest conversation. It doesn't really work like that.

We don't currently have an "open border". Congrats, you've been played by the POS in the White House and most of the rest of the GOP that supports him. Also, I have yet to hear a single Democrat argue for anything resembling "open borders". Even the notion we have a crisis involving illegal immigration is a complete fabrication. https://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2017/apr/26/ron-kind/yes-experiencing-net-outflow-illegal-undocumented-/
  21. Yep, no coincidence they won the Cup as soon as he had an extended period of dominating play during the playoffs.
  22. I might call out of work and pop a champagne bottle the day Junior goes down.

    Redskins Cut DJ Swearinger!

Swearinger was told repeatedly to keep his criticism in house and he just couldn't help himself. To be honest I am pretty sure this is what he wanted for a while - so good for him. Norman and Foster weren't consistently causing problems almost every single week.

    Redskins Cut DJ Swearinger!

It was a d-bag thing to do to keep going to the media with this crap week after week. I can't believe anyone would feel bad for him. 4 teams already in his career and you can see why.
