Trump and his cabinet/buffoonery- Get your bunkers ready!

Granted, I did it to myself with some of my early comments, but holy hell, it's pretty much come down to me siding with the right/Republican/Trump and most of you all siding with the left/Democrat/?  I've told you all I don't agree with everything Trump has done or is doing, but he's still my POTUS.  I've given examples of things I don't like.

To clarify, that's not really what happened.

When I first started here, this board was about as right leaning as it now appears left leaning. Over the years, there have been some farther right types that have left or been asked to seek alternate message board arrangements, because they couldn't handle appropriate discourse (Sarge comes immediately to mind).

However, until recently, there have been just as many, if not more, further left types that have met the same fate (Midnight Judges and chomerics would be two examples).

What has happened gradually over the past 10 years or so is that many of the right wing types here are now what you would probably describe as part of the left mob. Bang and Mad Mike are two prominent examples. Mad Mike actually had a thread where he passionately defended W for invading Iraq over WMDs.

I already noted that I don't really enjoy political arguments, so I will leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine the most likely reason these conservatives suddenly look like liberals.

So we are comparing ourselves with the worst? We are supposed to be better, not rest on what we have done and laugh at the worst.

Who's laughing?

We've taken a step back in race relations lately, but that's still nothing compared to what we did with trail of tears or screaming at black kids going into a whites only school for the first time.  We have to acknowledge progress instead of saying its not good enough because there's no silver bullet for race relations in this country or anywhere.  It doesn't matter how bad we want it, it won't happen overnight and some countries are absolutely further ahead then others in this regard.

I'm trying, but I have to admit, the gang mentality on this particular forum is insane.

I don't know what phase three is

It’s a gang thing, don’t worry about it.

On a side note, I’m excited to officially be in the Extremeskins gang. I mean, it’s a good gang name and who doesn’t want to be in a gang. Let’s get matching tats!!!

Well, I hate Hillary and leading up to the 2016 election I decided I couldn't vote for her, not in a million years, so I voted for Trump.  I had 3 really close friends from when I was working that voted for Hillary, and also hated Trump.  I told them election night I had changed my mind and was going Republican vice Independent.  From that point on, and for about 5 days, all I got were disgusting text messages from them, renouncing their friendship with me, calling me every name in the book, etc.  Once a week or so went by I didn't hear from them and have not heard from them to this day.  They blocked my phone and unfriended me on FB, simply for voting for Trump.  They threw over 15 years of friendship out the window.  If that's seriously what the left has come to I feel sad for the generations to come.

You gonna look at 3 people then draw a circle around 100 million and say "is this what the left has become?" You're not going to find a group of 100 million people of any sort without there being some dumbasses in there.

And yet... you’re willing to overlook the fact that the GOP is LED by a compulsive liar, a repeated adulterer, a scam artist & conman, a man who says POWs aren't heroes and makes fun of disabled reporters, a man who pays off pornstars he was banging while his wife was at home breastfeeding their newborn, a man who surrounds himself with criminals, a man who says that Nazis are very fine people... and this doesn't even scratch the surface of his moral bankruptcy.

And this IS what the right has become. A voter base who elected a demagogue incapable of articulating meaningful content on any issue but who was the favorite son of the mouth breathing moronic wing of the GOP because he acted like a general ass, said he was going to get rid of all the Mexicans & Muslims, and threatened to jail his opponent.

But you think the left is going to imperil future generations because three people who voted for Hillary called you names?? How am I supposed to view this as being based on any sort of logic or guided by any sort of principal other than “-R good. -D bad.”? That's like a level 10 mental gymnastics routine.

Gtfo with this bull**** nonsense. This is a flat out lie and you know it. This is why nobody here and seemingly in your real life takes you seriously or is ok with removing you from their lives. You’ve shown them that you don’t want to live in reality and are therefore not worth their time

Yeah I remember when I first joined the forums in the 2001 era, there was a much heavier GOP/Conservative/right-wing etc etc presence in most political driven posts.  Some of them left I assume, the ones who are left are stuck defending Trump as that is now the main driving force of GOP policy.  That is nobody's fault but the GOP base.  They could have soundly rejected his nonsense during his campaigning. Hell, even after he won, they could have backed away from his rhetoric and given political cover to the portion of the GOP that is not down with him.  Instead it's been the complete opposite.  It's been defend Trump at all costs, and it's rubbed off on the rest of the GOP like a disease.

I don't think we ever really took a huge step forward to begin with.

Police brutality was a problem when police were originally slave catchers. It was a problem during the Jim Crow/housing discrimination period. It was a problem during the Civil Rights movement. It was a problem during the ascension period. And it is a problem today. Same with wealth inequality. Same with schooling. Same with access to health, upward mobility, etc.

I don't care about what other countries have or have not done, I am demanding more from the country I live in and am a citizen. And knowing the history of this country, I will not be holding my breath because it won't apologize for its original sin as a nation.

In all my 30 some years of working, I have only two close friends from those years and both are of the same political bent as me. I routinely worked with right to far right ex military and I never considered them friends, only work acquaintances. And personal discussion topics were never brought up.

I am not personally friends with any person who espouces the Republican party platform. I don't believe in anything in that platform. And the culture of hate and divisiveness that Trump and his minions have opened up is anathema to me.

You mean something like Obama sympathy not apology for US nuking Japan in World War II, or an actual speech?  Does it have to be in PDF format?

I'll respect how much that matters to you so hopefully you respect mine. They could apologize until they are blue in the face, action still needs to be taken now, in the meantime, and after that.  That's happening, even Trump signed a Criminal Reform bill.

My dad keeps telling me this isn't the 60s in regards to race relations and police brutality in this country, I believe him, I wasn't there.  I know the DOJ's Ferguson report would've never happened in the 60s, though.

What does that mean, or, what do you say that the phrase 'original sin' means in terms of America and slavery?

"they keep telling me everything i am saying is lies, they keep referring me to proof of it. They keep yelling at me when i ignore it and repeat even more lies and then they act in a manner that indicates they may be fed up with the kind of utter bull**** I am spewing. I trust and parrot sources that have no credibility, that are proven lies and propaganda that has been exposed so many times that they act like it's funny a person still listens to any of it.

I have lost friends, and everyone around me keeps telling me I'm wrong.

I don't understand it. They are like a gang.

Given all of this, I am only forced to conclude that the problem is obviously them."

I agree... GTFO,

If this is all it took for you to lose friends of 15 years then you should question alot more than what "the left has come to".

Like, how wonderful of a person you must have been for your friends to just drop you like that cause of one decision you made.

Which is also why i think you are lying. That and you told me you qent independent  few pages back. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So sad how you can have so much hate for one man.  He's your POTUS, so maybe show just a little bit of respect.  If you're not from the US, then do what you want.

**** him.

I warned everyone I knew about him.

And I reject this idea that I have to show him any amount of respect when he has done EVERYTHING within his power to disrespect the office, the people, the nation, and the world.

He can rot in hell...and may he get there by natural means. I'd hate to see anyone throw their life away on that orange turd.

Did you all forget that during the Obama presidency he announced there was a crisis at the border?  During his tenure he did fund for "fencing" to be erected along some portions of the border, but of course that didn't work.  Did this not happen?  Was Obama lying about the border threat in 2014?

How many of you think putting up a wall is immoral?  How about putting up a fence?

Everybody lies. Very few do it on the level of Trump. Which image has a larger crowd? That was him telling us on day one he didn't give a rat's ass about the truth, even when it is obvious.

I haven't stopped talking to someone simply because they voted for Trump, that said there are people I will not do business with because they continue to support that prick and his racist, nationalistic, pseudo-Christian, ideals.

My social media profile is highly active for my business etc, and I won't unfriend someone unless they are just overboard, I will however quickly unfollow someone if they're repeating that bull****.

This isn't about a lie.

This is about the perpetual, constant, and blatant gaslighting of the American people.

Don't try that minimalism bull**** with me, I've played this game long enough to know better.

Trump is an inherently dishonest and corrupt man. He's a bully, a racist, a chauvinist pig. He dishonors the office every morning he wakes up and doesn't resign.

Helpful context

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/01/21/president-trump-made-false-or-misleading-claims-his-first-two-years/?utm_term=.64a77550608f

Quote

Two years after taking the oath of office, President Trump has made 8,158 false or misleading claims, according to The Fact Checker’s database that analyzes, categorizes and tracks every suspect statement uttered by the president.

That includes an astonishing 6,000-plus such claims in the president’s second year.

Put another way: The president averaged nearly 5.9 false or misleading claims a day in his first year in office. But he hit nearly 16.5 a day in his second year, almost triple the pace.

UPDATE, Feb. 3: As of 745 days, the tally is 8,459 claims

As far as the criticism of @Force1958 goes, we do have a thread about understanding Trump supporters. Maybe more of those comments could go there and we return to more comments about Trump cabinet members, policies, etc. in this one.

I mean I've been guilty of responding to some statements myself, but this thread shouldn't become about any one member. I think there is value in having him defend a specific position or explain why he supports it (for example, I asked if he supported the planned use of eminnent domain by the President to forcibly remove US citizens from their homes to build his wall,)  but some of this other talk seems off base.

I actually was curious about people's response to the McCabe interview yesterday and not only the aspersions cast on Trump, but Sessions too (though it really isn't a surprise that Jeff Sessions let racism guide his thinking).
