Just watched the first three episodes.  Big thumbs up for me.

I just watched the pilot.  There was a twist that shocked me.  This show is already way darker and more adult than Eye of the World was.  I can see the plotlines they're setting up, and it makes sense to change things the way they have in order to darken up the background of main characters.  But man, this was more intense than I expected.  Way more intense than the pastoral, wholesome world Jordan wrote.  Another thing is the magic is way more visual and spectacular than I imagined, and the combat was far more visceral and extensive.  The Bel Tine episode translated to the screen better than I thought would be possible.

There were lots of small but impactful changes in the adaptation to screen in the first episode of WoT.  Stuff as simple as the Two Rivers women having a right of passage ceremony and magical holy places that are very druidic were creations of the show, and I get them.  In the book the right of passage is getting to tie your hair in a braid, and you can't take a 15 page musing on how important and impactful that braid is to the character and adapt it to screen.  Plus they were able to achieve useful foreshadowing, which should come back down the line if the show goes on long enough.

I noticed three significant changes from the book:

Spoiler

1 - Perrin's marriage.  I knew they were going to have to resolve this in the trolloc attack, but I did not see the way they did it coming.  In general, they made the three boys a lot older and more adult than they were in the book, and this was the way they did it for Perrin.  I get why they did it though, Perrin needs real consequences to happen for him to be properly terrified of what's inside him.

2 - Nynaeve's capture.  I get that they wanted a better reason for her not to join the other hero kids when they leave than the book provided.  But it also feels like they had her be captured so that we can get a PoV character to introduce us to the myrrdral.

3 - No Thom Merrilin.  My guess is that they didn't want to introduce too many characters in the pilot, plus blunt the impact of Moiraine showing up at the Inn on Bel Tyne with another stranger doing the same thing.  But they are obviously going to have to introduce him later down the line.  He's too important to leave out for long.

WoT is one of the rare examples of a tv show I get to watch without having read the books.  Very much enjoying the first episode.

I have not read the books either, and was wondering if I would be lost if I hadn't. Now I look forward to watching WoT.

I thought the first 3 episodes were pretty good, but not great. I think its quality will depend on how well they develop the characters. And no, I never even heard of the books - I don't read fiction.

Well, if they follow the books you’ll beg them to stop developing the damn characters and get the hell on with it.

I just finished the first three episodes.  I definitely don't think you have to have read the books to enjoy the show.  It's not a super faithful adaptation as they seem to have cleaned the story and dialogue up a ton in order to keep it popping and follow hour-long episodic pacing.  And as @Destino points out, the character development is a lot more rapid and less detailed than it was in the books.

The other big change I've noticed is the show is much, much darker in tone than the books were.  Characters are different and much more angry and violent and I think they cut one of my favorite characters from the story.  I'm still not sure how I feel about that yet.  WoT was kind of a wholesome escape for me growing up, and it kind of reminds me how I felt the first time I watched Peter Jackson's Hobbit adaptation in how I thought that was far too violent and focused on combat.  But eventually I came to greatly enjoy that trilogy on it's own terms, so I'm trying to do the same with this series on the first watch.

I do think reading the books really helps you understand some of the significance of the lore the show develops via exposition.  For instance, the Aes Sedai order seems kind of confusing and opaque in this portrayal.  I don't know that you really get a full sense of just how much the ordinary person in WoT world fears them from this show.  They are a pretty ambivalent organization, whereas just seeing Moiraine do her thing makes you think they are heroes.  She's just one of the good ones.  Also when Moiraine is explaining about the three oathes that the Aes Sedai all take, I don't know if she really drove home that they literally can not break them.  Liar liar style.  They have to come up with lawyerly dodges to get around them.  So just knowing stuff like that is where reading the books helps.  But my wife and sister in law both seemed to really enjoy the show and had no trouble following it without having read the series.  It's jus helpful, not necessary.

Caught first three episodes of WoT last night.  Backstory:  I actually tried to read Eye of the World but couldn't get past like the first three chapters.   Poke fun of GRRM all you want, but after reading ASOIAF(aka GOT) most fantasy I try to read nowadays seems so pedestrian, in terms of writing style.   Maybe its the POV Martin used.

It did seem B reel /pop fantasy to me, but I appreciated it for what it was.

Just watched the first 6 episodes of Cowboy Bebop, any fans of the original must watch this live action adaptation.

I think they screwed up casting John Cho as Spike.  He doesn’t have the speed and martial arts prowess to pull off Spike and the fight scenes suffer for it.  Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black is perfect though.  After the first episode I thought I’d kind of hate it… I was wrong.  It’s a lot of fun.  Like you say if you liked the anime you must watch this.

Really love the music.  I want more science fiction shows to just fill their worlds with jazz music.

How long ago did you read the books?  I remember mostly broad strokes at this point because it’s been a long time and the series was so long.

I like Cho as Spike, but I think he plays the character a bit too nice and friendly. Spike wasn't a psycho, but he wasn't this super nice Uncle Jesse type. In the first couple episodes, I didn't like the fight scenes. Cho doesn't have the ability to move like Spike (not many people would), so there is a lot of choppy/close up/quick cuts to the fight scenes. It gets a lot better as the episodes go on, but these actors don't have the ability to do what the characters in the anime can do.

I like the way all of the characters are portrayed so far, I thought they made Faye a little too goofy without showing off how capable she actually is as a bounty hunter. Viscous and Julia are just completely wrong, way off the mark. The show got some things wrong, but got so much more right that I think it can be enjoyed by most fans.

Haven’t seen the live action cowboy bebop yet, but my mom apparently watched the first four episodes already, lol.

Arcane was really good.  The art and music alone are fantastic.

WOT took a bit for me to get over some changes,  it I’m really into it now.  Wished there were more than 3 out already.

So

@TheGreatBuzz and I finally started Squid Games.

I'm slightly more impressed than I expected.

Watched it about a month ago and that was the last time I was interested in anything new that Netflix had to offer. I just haven't had a desire to watch what they've offered lately. I tried the new season of Narcos and quickly realized I'm "Narcosed out." Tried the new season of You and realized I'm "You'ed out." Tried that new korean show Hellbound. Couldn't get into it. I'm frustrated!

It's been a while since I read the whole series, but I read everything but the Sanderson contributions three separate times.  I re-read the first book last year though, so the sequencing of that book is pretty fresh for me.

The way to do it is get the audio books.  That's how I'm going through them again now.  You can get through so much of them on long car trips or workouts.

Yeah me too.  But I'd say I'm over most of them.  The two biggest ones I'm not sure I like are that they seem to have really changed Thom Merrillin in the adaptation, and I'm worried that they cut Min Farshaw's character from the series because they cut the Baerlon arc.  I'm worried they would feel that Min would confuse the romance arc they developed much more heavily between Rand and Egwene and thus decided to leave her out despite her significance to the story.

Towards the end of the 3rd season of You.  This show gets better and better. I loved the first 2 seasons, but the 3rd is the best yet.

I was unimpressed by Squid Game. Maybe it was hyped too much

@TheGreatBuzz walked in on me watching a certain episode of season 3 and I had a lot of back story to fill him in on to convince him it was a psychothriller and not soft core porn. Hahahaha

I love the You series.
