What's 100% a scam, yet still accepted by society?

Christmas. The original religious meaning is fine.  The crass consumerism and manipulatively guilt filled travesty it's become is not.

Could be said about all holidays now. It's all about sales.

Lol, opposite for me. Love me some crass consumerism, hope to never hear Silent Night Holy Night ever again.

LOL as oppose to slot machines and video poker/blackjack machines in a physical casino?

Those too. I just think the chances of it being rigged are multiplied by like 50 when it is online. There is no one reviewing their algorithms, the casino can set up the cards or wheel however they want and no one would have a clue.

Capitalism in general is on my list of suspects of full of ****.

This inflation thing lately felt like a giant universal collusion by Corporate America to all raise their prices at the same time, even if for no good reason, to see how far they can get on it.

Once it became obvious the Fed really wasn't going to back off the idea of raising interest rates until it did come to a head prices rising and folks not being able to afford it did it look like it slowed down.

That's different then being able to prove this in court and come with charges for price gouging, Biden came after a couple either sideways or directly accusing this, but it was happening everywhere and seemingly no way to keep up with all of it without doing the unthinkable...conversations about mass industry and sector wide price capping.

Because there's nothing capitalistic about that...and makes me wonder if Capitalism is fundamentally flawed because of it, thus unfixable, or the wheels of justice jus cannot keep up with it and maintain its credibility...leading to equally similar dire results and conclusions about the true dangers of any economic model.

Folks like Katie Porter pointed out how this inflation was fundamentally different then ones past. I really wish the Fed would've recommended focusing more on addressing supply chain issues then taking it out on us consumers and it jus feels like another example of being afraid to come after the real problem because it would at minimum come across as anti-capitalistic...

Scenes from extra-terrestral archeology in 2123:

The Blivmian species researching the planet with similar livable conditions as their own have made a startling discovery regarding mass extinction events that occurred 100 years ago.  Archeologists, using a series of primitive writing codes, have been able to determine the event that precipitated the planetary destruction of life was an argument over the birthdate and origins of the planet's largest known diety.

Are there multiple religious meanings of Christmas? A newer testament I am unaware of perhaps?

Historical Jesus (Jeshua, actually), to the best of our knowledge, was born in the Spring, not Winter.  The Christians decided it would be easier to convert pagans by usurping one of their holidays, so they took Saturnalia and made it about Jesus instead, thus Christmas is a Winter holiday.  Songs, feasts, giving of gifts, and hanging of wreaths were all artifacts of Saturnalia.

Which original religious meaning?  Because it certainly wasn't Jesus' birth.

Ok, the using a prior pagan ritual thing isn't cool either.

Not being Christian, celebrating the birth of the creator of their religion, who actually represented some good things even if most Christians don't pay attention anymore is fine.  Not involved, but it doesn't bother me.

The pressure I am not alone in experiencing from October on, to spend money I typically don't have is not fine.

It's fair to be bothered by this, Romans also moved sabbath to their weekly holy day (Sunday) from the last day of the week (meaning sabbath should be Saturday with respect to gregorian calendar) as part of making it easier for them to convert in mass to Christianity.

That turned into a feature, not a bug, as Christianity made a habit of absorbing certain parts of pegan rituals into its holiday celebrations to ease conversation for some (see Easter).

Not defending it or suggesting it's only way it "convinced" people to convert, jus can't speak to any other religion giving the appearance of absorbing a little bit from the folks that convert over the years (2000+ being a long time)...

Oh one more, related to my previous post.

Cards

Like the kind you buy on those said holidays and birthdays.  What a god damn scam industry that is.  I tell my family not to buy me cards because it's a waste of money.  You feel bad throwing them away because someone bought them for you.  So you probably toss them in a drawer never to be seen again.  But then you have so many of them they just start taking up space.

Well I can tell you that I do NOT feel bad throwing cards away.  If/When I get em, they are usually in the trashcan by the end of the day.  Sorry you wasted $7 on a card for me you idiot.  Yeah, the cost of them has gone up TREMENDOUSLY as well.

I make my kids make cards for people when they go to birthday parties.

The problem is, I will still buy cards for things like weddings since I can't just toss a check into the gift box.

God damn scam...
