Stop talking about the HIV epidemic response as if was a good thing.

Yeah, I think a lot of people don't remember our nation's (and the GOP's) initial response to HIV.

I used to think it was one of the worst things our nation had ever done.  I lumped it in with the Japanese internment camps.  That kind of things.

This is where I'm trying to meet Trump halfway in reality here, hes holding off on mandatory, national lockdown as long as he can.

Even saying hed maybe start with hot zones if it gets to that point is probably only thing I agree with him on in this, this is such a large country, Italy France and Spain are the size of some states.

I do see your point.  But I think it's also a reasonable counter to say that we lack sufficient information to know where the hot zones are due to lack of testing.  At minimum, the definition of hot zones should be overly inclusive.

He's still trying to ride the coattails of what States and others have been doing on their own.

How many times you heard Trump announce what a great leader he is, because wages went up?

Somebody here at least posted an article claim that the wage growth we've seen, under Trump, is due to two things:

1)  Income going up for the top 0.1%.

2)  And blue states raising their minimum wages.

The economy is tanking because of Trump not trying to protect us from dying and investors seeing right through it.  You are presenting a false choice.

the economy is tanking (not the stock market) because we are going to be buying much less that we normally do, because we have shut down factories,  shopping malls, schools, restaurants, cruises, and the travel industry in order to combat the virus.

How much is necessary is hard to say, I believe someone else said the only way you will know whether you under prepared or over prepared is if you underprepared.

At some point, you will do so much economic damage that the economic damage is worse than the virus. Do you think it is impossible to My question, which wasn’t a statement, is what is that amount.

Then someone asked me to make the case that economic collapse costs lives, which I believe I have made.

That's more then fair.  Too much states and citizens have to figure on themselves, seeing which states are leading on forcing social distance seems to come close to states with the highest death rates so far.

Last I looked at the match, hotzones based on the data include at least Washington State, Cali, and New England.  But without testing, I can only give an educated guess and say the hotzones are where the highest death rates are compared to the rest of the country.

they shut down schools, closed restaurants down, stopped travel, closed casinos...

Trying to figure out what the minimum number of changes would need to be made, to make your latest trolling somewhat close to reality.  Whet I've got so far:

Replace "they" with "low level governments"

Insert "a few, here and there" in front of every one of those items.

Append the phrase "despite the actions of Trump"

There's probably some I missed.

They closed down all the schools in many states state wide. They close down all casinos in New Jersey and Maryland, somoeone reported a tweet where they said they are closing down several casinos on the strip. New York City closed restaurant and bars as did Ohio and Maryland. @visionary just tweeted that 6 counties in California aren’t going to be allowed out of their house unless they are critical.... they are closing grocery stores down early... and they said it’s going to get worse.

Every time I hear Pence talk he says we’re ramping up testing, and it sounds an awful lot like the “checks in the mail.”

This press conference is basically these guys congratulating themselves for putting together some information packets that mirror advice that’s already out there.  Information this administration initially hesitated to endorse and to pass on.

The problem with your example is you went straight to world war 2, which is why i recommended going to the aftermath of the spanish flu for a better comparison.

Best case scenario is a u-shape recovery sometime in the fall, that's what happened with the last example of a global pandemic of this magnitude, a u-shape recovery despite an economic pause button.

I dont agree with prioritizing stopping the virus at the expense of the economy not being worth it, that's what we did the last time and it worked out without economic collapse.  I'm open to this conversation in historical context, but I dont agree with the example you are sticking with, it's out of order of what actually happened in the early 20th century.

Even the Black Death in Europe effectively ended the Dark Ages and lead to the Renaissance.  Europe was too busy picking up the pieces for someone to go straight to revenge tour like Hitler did in world war 2.

Every retail store is still open.  Gyms are still open.  People are not staying at home.

All of this is voluntary.

Its because we're in Virginia, that's not what's happening in New York, it looks like Pennsylvania may be next.

Yeah I’m working in New York right now and my employer hasn’t even mentioned leaving the job to come home. Everyone is out and about like nothings going on.
