We have a chart that tells when and how long to half staff. Senators and Congressmen get 2 days. So k think you all may be reading too much into it. And POTUS can order them down longer...he chose not to, just like he chose to not make a complimentary statement about McCain, just like even in his tweet yesterday it was all about him and the fact that the GOP is shrinking which is causing an inflated percentage of 90% approval. Trump is nothing more than a self congratulatory, self serving, ego-maniacal ****. He lies at will constantly and can't even bring himself to put out an official statement that he doesn't believe. How's that for consistency? Oh, and this wasn't just another Senator...this was John McCain; war hero, POW, Senator, GOP Presidential nominee. I could see if this was Rand Paul. The person occupying the white house has the authority to extend the time of mourning. I would think a person with Senator McCain's military and public service record deserves a full week. SoulSkin
Governors all over the country are doing it until the after he's laid to rest. Pretty standard for someone of his significance. Ya'll keep telling yourself that's standard for this situation though. It is for Trump.

If Obama had done this you'd be clutching your pearls and fainting. You are so fond of saying that you don't support Trump and yet we never see you criticize him and you are always defending him...what would it look like I wonder if you actually didn't support him. Jumbo
fwiw https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/why-did-the-white-house-raise-its-flags-so-quickly-after-mccain’s-death/ar-BBMvB6C?li=BBnb7Kz Quote As many reporters noticed Monday morning, the flags atop the White House that were lowered to half staff on Saturday out of respect for Sen. John McCain’s death have already been raised back to their normal height. Despite the anger the move has whipped up, according to U.S. flag code, this is in keeping with the rules. A member of Congress is supposed to get the flags lowered on the day of his or her death, as well as the day after. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The fast turnaround seems to break with recent precedent, however. According to a Monday NBC report, President Barack Obama twice issued proclamations to keep flags at half mast until burial for senators who died in office: Sens. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Daniel Inouye (D-HI). President Donald Trump opted not to sign a proclamation honoring McCain. Presidents get wide latitude in deciding when to lower the flags, and for how long. Until 1923, there were no regulations around flag display. Even after Congress adopted the code on Flag Day June 14, 1923 they have become akin to guidelines and cannot illicit punishment. President George W. Bush was the first to make common practice lowering the staff for natural disasters, and President Barack Obama lowered the flag more than any other President. Much of the ire around Trump’s treatment of the flags for McCain likely stems from the President’s well-documented disdain of the veteran lawmaker. Trump reportedly nixed a White House statement that praised McCain and his legacy, instead opting for a tweet that simply conveyed his sympathies to the McCain family. Trump’s Instagram tribute took it a step further, reposting the text from his tweet alongside a photo of himself. imo this should be moved on from sooner rather than later because in the end trumpworld is fundamentally a cesspool and always will be and this isn't worth too much energy as a singular item...it's worth noting for a day or two, as all the individual incidents are afaic, but not one to make extended story this is the kind of deal that really does become the shiny object that distracts after an initial round of attention
