Burgold
A lot of us are fixating on the QB change and that's fair, but possibly even bigger is that they sat Polumbus in favor of Compton. No injury just a desire for better play. Overdue, but hopefully these field demotions are a beginning. Anyone notice when Tom came in or saw how well he did? isle-hawg
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I am glad he benched both. I did not notice when the change was made for Compton. Glad to have Polumbus pulled, but I did not notice Compton was in until he had the holding penalty...
Stormy
I was thrilled too, though I worry for Morgan Moses future if Tom Compton is a better option. I wasn't at today's game, but Compton seemed pretty tentative (getting pushed back, timing off on a few snaps etc...) but he has to be better than Polumbus. Plus, it shows the players that merit and performance do count. However, it sounds like Polumbus was having knee issues, so this may not have been a true benching. If so, bummer. Darc Requiem
Cousins because he is the QB. We've known for a few weeks that RG3 was going to start when he's healthy. The Compton change was welcome. Polumbus has been getting blown up.
justice98
I don't think either of them are big. But better late than never on Polumbus, but I don't gather that Compton's all that much of an upgrade or he would've been in there before just now. BRAVEONTHEWARPATH93
Polumbus left mostly due to injuries so yeah....
Burgold
Interesting. In his presser, Gruden made the decision on Polumbus sound like it was performance based.
WhodatSkinsFan?
Good. I'm glad... Might as well get Compton/ Moses in there. Was Moses' inactivation due to injury or does anyone know?
MEANDWARF
Wouldn't worry about Moses career. Scouts had him being a little raw coming out of Virginia. If he does not crack the line-up next year, then you can worry. What bothers me is that we bench our backup for a guy whom couldn't win a starting job with the Browns. THE BROWNS PEOPLE!!!!!! Chump Bailey
I just hope between Long, Moses and Compton one of them can supplant Chester or Tyler.
London Kev
Polumbus benching is bigger because he's the starter. Cousins is a back-up, and now might even drop down to the back-up's back-up.
ejay183
Interesting. In his presser, Gruden made the decision on Polumbus sound like it was performance based. Long overdue, he has been awful. Compton isnt a HOF, but if he can be solid, that would be an improvement
Puma Kane
I like Compton in there. From my limited view, it seemed like he was stonewalling the left end, but I'm not sure if the end were in contain or not. Regardless, the line seemed more solid, with Polumbust on the sidelines, learning to spell "Gatorade."
Renegade7
Stuff like this justifies my position that Gruden is not the problem. I've seen enough Head Coaches here stick with unproductive starters for whatever reason. Gruden even said there way no way he'd bench Cousins, then swallowed his pride on that comment and did what was best for the football team. Team first, man, Jay is going to be fine. redskins59
Both of them were correct decisions. Kirk, I thought, could be good, but turns out he is not even backup material. What Kirk Cousins showed me was mental fortitude is very important.
NickyJ
Like most have said, Compton replacing Polumbus isn't going to change much in terms of skill, but it is a start. Hopefully Compton is given the chance to use that start instead of Polumbus next week.
SkinsFTW
To me, Cousins/Colt or Polumbus/Compton is like being down to your last 59 bucks and having to choose between motel 6 and super 8.... in the middle of the zombie apocalypse and as you know both these hotels have outside access room so you're screwed anyway. Oh yeah, the Walking Dead starts in a couple hours
DC9
Polumbus being benched showed that players have to be accountable. Chester is next.
Master Blaster
Look who couldn't make our team as a backup OL but has started every game for another:http://www.kcchiefs.com/team/roster/Mike-McGlynn/6eefbe62-0b03-4839-9dfe-f4af70b48a35Maybe the problem is the Redskins don't have an eye for players who can contribute. KDawg
Part of me wonders how Moses would play as a guard. You don't play out on the edge so there's less space... Not that I'm giving up on Moses outside yet, because I'm not. Just kind of thinking out loud.
bedlamVR
I think the reasons Compton and not Moses has stepped in at RT is because the two big knocks on Moses coming out of collage was strength and conditioning and also he can be indecisive and he is by far a better pass blocker than run blocker. Tom has been through a couple of seasons of NFL conditioning and should be ahead of most rookies in that aspect but I think we like most teams want the right hand side of the line to be the better run blocking side and the left hand side the better pass blocking side (in very rough terms)... I have also read where Moses works best is with leverage on the edges where he can lock up defenders with his long arms and tends not to do well in close confines and while I am sure he can move inside i think that would not be the best position to play hi, i would rather give LeRib or Long a start at guard before Moses ...
