Since the picks were future 1s, and the Lions had to take on Goff’s salary, my guess is if Washington offered 19 and next year’s 1 that might have gotten the job done. I absolutely would have made that deal fwiw.

Yup.  Give Heinicke a chance and build a team around him at this point.  Don't overspend, and use our available cap space to syphon of some FAs.

If we did offer a 1st and third, I could still see why the Lions would take this deal.  They are basically punting 2021 and 2022.  They can exit Goff in 23 with 8M in dead cap space.  It delays the clock for their additional 1st rounders.  Would not be surprised to see them move back and acquire more ‘22 picks.

Why? For them getting two 1st, a 3rd and a QB is better than just a 1st and a 3rd.

I'd figure that they know they are going to be bad.  Better to play the lotto picks in 2022 and 2023 vs the 19th this year.  Maybe they also like Goff and want to rehab his value in a no pressure environment.

Those firsts are in 2022 and 2023 which is equal to a 2021 2nd and 3rd, plus Goff's contract.

The can also flip Goff for a pick or two if they convert some of his future bonus money.
