!!!!0mgz!!!! Trent Williams finally showed up

Gruden said today that he "feels very strongly" that Trent will not be traded.

In this situation, I would expect him to say that he does not expect Trent to be traded.

But perhaps it means something, that he went out of his way, and did so voluntarily, to express he "feels very strongly" about that.

Or...it could simply mean that he feels very strongly about attempting to subdue the repetitious questions about Trent. 😉

FWIW, sounds as if some Iggles fans are nervous about the prospect of a Joshua Clowney/Trent Williams trade. Thing is, I can't imagine Clowney coming to Washington in any trade. The Skins need help at too many other positions to go after another linebacker. Still, it shows that the D the Skins are building is getting some respect in Philly.

>>Lamar Miller‘s injury reintroduced the topic of Clowney being traded to Philly somewhat. ‘The Birds’ have a few decent running backs and, possibly, some draft picks that they might be willing to move, but the only thing is the Texans need an offensive tackle, especially on the right side, more than they need a running back. With that being said, might the Washington Redskins be a more realistic trade partner?

They have a nice commodity that could intrigue Houston in the form of Trent Williams. That would solve some of the Texans’ offensive line issues, keep Deshaun Watson upright, and give the Redskins another pass rusher. There’s just one thing. Washington only has $8.9 million in cap space currently.

Still, if they moved Williams and the $10.8 million that he’s due in 2019, some juggling could still bring them under cap standards and make this a deal that works for one of Philly’s biggest rivals. That wouldn’t be good news as the Eagles coaches would, then, have to prepare for the likes of Clowney, Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, Ryan Kerrigan, and, now, Montez Sweat twice a year.

It doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, does it?<<

Raise your hand if you think TW will ever suit up in Burg and Gold again.

At this point there are only 2 options:

1) Trade him for anything you can get.

2) Play hardball and let him sit out the remainder of his contract, accruing fines and the media storm that goes along with.

Even if he reluctantly reports, do you really want his attitude towards the organization in the locker room?

IMHO, TW has been overpaid for the amount of time he has been on the field. He has NOT been  the premier LT in the league  but is firmly in the top 8 over the last few years.

He has had games where premier Pass Rushers have beaten him consistently, and the injury bug and age are catching up to him.

This fallout is a direct correlation with the lack of attention that the OL and DL had for years until the last few drafts. If we stay the course we are a couple of stud OL away from dominate lines on D and O, and with Haskins growth and some young WRs, and Guice, our core of an explosive Offense will begin to jell.

If TW was concerned about his health, he can afford to go see a specialist and get a 2nd opinion. He is responsible for his health, not the team or team doctors. Unless there is a contract clause that says you cannot go see a specialist on your own, the whole "issue" is manufactured.

If I had to bet, I would guess that TW is not going to take the $$ hit that sitting out the season would result in and will report sometime after preseason is done by the 3rd game at the latest.

I would love his talent on the line, but at this point his attitude towards the organization as a whole would be too negative to let him in the locker room.

So people are still thinking that another team is going to give up a first rounder for a player with much bigger issues than Antonio Brown who is also injury prone and has been suspended for weed on multiple occasions?

:ols:

You wait until trade deadline and they'll get a 1st for him. Some team will be making a playoff push and need a LT.

Getting a 1st for him would be awesome.  I don't pretend to be an armchair GM too much but my gut tells me it'd be hard to get a team to give up a 1st.  Trent isn't on the upside of his career and I think that'd take it down to a 2nd.  But still, if he's not intending on suiting up for us then we need to get something for him.

Speaking to the clowney thing again, one fact people are sometimes forgetting is that clowney cannot be signed to an extension so you'd literally be trading for a one year rental on the franchise tag with Hope's to get him to sign an extension when the season ends.

That's gotta seriously lower his value.

I get that a first may be tough, but if a 2nd is involved, more has to come.  2 2's or something.  And the value of that is lower than but gives us more hit chances.  At least how I see it.

I don't disagree there.  Also length remaining on his contract which I admittedly don't know is a part of it, too.

Why even consider Clowney as an option did he convert to Oline?? We need O LINE, we have for the last decade if not longer. Get a high draft pick for him or a second and a third so we can get a bad ass oline set up for Haskins. Shiny running backs, receivers and tight ends mean nothing if our QB is laying on his back broken and tired.

Is it believed that Bruce is still not taking trade calls on Trent?

If true I consider it a mistake. Even if there is no intention to trade now, he opens lines of communications which will aid in further deals. Notably, when he comes to his senses that its in our best interests to move him.

Imagine my shock seeing a football coach pressured a doctor to clear an injured player.

No we don't

He's under contract for 2 years. The Skins don't have to do anything, but take his money away. If he's fine with that so be it. Worst case scenario you trade him next year for best offer during free agency and draft. Getting a cheap pick for him now does nothing to help the team now anyway. So it better be worth it for us to trade him. Or else sit on him for the whole year.

None of us know whats happening. But I think it's safe to assume he's is taking the calls, hearing the offers but saying at this point we are not interested. Thats probably becuase

1. We still hope we can get Trent back in a Skins uniform (which would be the best outcome here)

2. The offers we have had have not blown us away.

3. We think by waiting this out the offers may get better.

Personally I think this gets resolved one way or another next week. I will be surprised if this drags into the season. Trent is 31 years old. Every game check he misses is gone forever and he is running out of years to make that money back on another deal (which I think is the clue to what's really going on here).

We don't need Clowney. We're building our DL the right way and we're not in the position the Bears were last year where they needed that one stud on D to put them over the top.

I'd rather just get a 1st for him. Or maybe work out some kind of 3 team deal, where we trade Williams to Houston, they trade Clowney to....someone, and that team sends us a 1st.

I agree with most of what you said but I'm not so sure that keeping Trent, possibly against his own wishes, is the best outcome for the team. An unhappy player, especially a veteran like Trent, who is forced to return for the money could be disastrous. I get the organizations reasons for not dealing him but why keep a guy here who doesn't want to be here and comes back only because of the money? Trent is a very good LT and could hold a great deal of value to a playoff team but he may hold even more value to a team not quite there yet in a trade. If the Skins get an offer of a 1st round pick and a player or another pick then they should seriously consider it. Having two firsts next year could seriously set up the offensive line for years to come while the defense and Haskins are still young.

I strongly believe that keeping Trent just to keep him is extremely dangerous. If he decides to retire, we get nothing for Williams. I hope people in the know are more in the loop on if he will truly never play for the Skins again... but if that statement is true and we just hold him, this FO is really making a very, very big mistake.

If he TRULY does not want to play here then I agree. We really don't know that though - stuff said through third parties is possibly just part of the smoke of a negotiation. It could be the smoke from a fire of course.

I agree IF Trent is done here. Hell given his age and injury history and where we are as a team (rookie QB) I'd be tempted to take a 1st round pick that has a chance of being above low 20's for him even if he was Ok with staying. We are really not competing for anything serious this year baring a miracle - we should be loading up to put pieces around Haskins long term. And Trent does not have a long term here under the best of circumstances.

Kirk Cousins' legacy should not shadow every front office decision. On the other hand, not learning from what happened with Kirk and winding up with nothing would be telling both of the Front Office's hubris and incompetence. If the fences can't be mended then get your ham sandwich (hopefully, it's at least a first rounder)

Giving Trent “3 years fully guaranteed” should mend the fences.
