Miami Herald: I’m done trying to understand Trump supporters. Why don’t they try to understand me?

Article is behind a paywall.  Does it say anything about the further implications of this ruling?  Especially the profanity aspect?

A little more from the article that should answer your question:

Biden Hater’s Banners That Town Called Obscene Can Stay Up, Court Rules

A New Jersey woman can leave up several banners that use what local officials called an obscenity to express her hostility toward President Biden, a state court ruled on Tuesday.

The ruling came after the woman, Andrea Dick of Roselle Park, enlisted the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey to fight a municipal judge’s order that she take the banners off a fence outside the house where she lives with her mother or face $250 a day in fines.

After the civil liberties group joined the case, Roselle Park officials backpedaled on their earlier demand that Ms. Dick take down the banners and effectively dropped the matter.

The clash was the latest such episode to emerge from America’s fractured political landscape and to highlight the delicate balance local officials must sometimes strike between defending free speech and responding to concerns about language that some residents find offensive.

The conflict involved three of 10 banners that Ms. Dick, a die-hard supporter of former President Donald J. Trump, had hung at the house. They included a crude word whose use the Supreme Court long ago ruled could not be restricted simply to protect those it offends.

Roselle Park officials, citing complaints from neighbors and concerns that children on their way to a nearby school could be exposed to the vulgar language, asked Ms. Dick to remove the banners. When she did not, she was issued a summons for violating a local obscenity ordinance and ordered to appear in borough court.

There, Judge Gary A. Bundy ruled against Ms. Dick, saying there were “alternative methods for the defendant to express her pleasure or displeasure with certain political figures in the United States” and noting the home’s proximity to a school.

“Freedom of speech is not simply an absolute right,” Judge Bundy added, while noting that “the case is not a case about politics. It is a case, pure and simple, about language. This ordinance does not restrict political speech.”

Ms. Dick vowed to challenge the ruling on free speech grounds, and the civil liberties group stepped in, filing a brief on her behalf in Superior Court. At that point, Roselle Park officials reversed course and dismissed the summons.

A New Report Shows How Trump Keeps Buying Facebook Ads

The Real Facebook Oversight Board is coming after the company again. Demonstrators from the non-profit backed civil society group showed up outside of Facebook’s DC office on Wednesday morning bearing body bags to make the case that “Facebook Kills”—a play on Joe Biden saying earlier this month that disinformation on the social media platform was “killing people.”

“President Biden was right,” said Imran Ahmed, CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate, explained in Wednesday statement. “Every day, there are avoidable deaths as a result of deadly propaganda which is designed to persuade people that vaccines don’t work and that COVID isn’t dangerous,”

The demonstration took place in conjunction with the Real Oversight Board’s release of a report about the company’s continued spread of disinformation, with two key findings: that through his Save America PAC, Trump is partially circumventing his Facebook ban, and that Facebook’s top stories are overwhelmingly coming from just five conservative sources.

Wasn't sure which thread this should go in but it's an interesting read.

Democrats are on the verge of repeating a voting rights blunder that led to the rise of Jim Crow

There's a lot in the article, but super super duper short version: Stop trying to appeal to white voters who are motivated by racism and white grievance with economic incentives. It won't work. But it could end up alienating your most loyal voters from you, so good job there.

i have to say... that is some truly ****ty statistical analysis....      white evangelical christians support trump more than any other group..... and it is supposed to be shocking that they parrot trump's conspiracy theories more than other groups?

there are plenty of low hanging fruit good arguments out there... there is no need to go full retard in your arguments ...is this guy trying to meet trump down at his own level?

(((one of the most famous idiotic statistical analyses ever submitted was by a southern preacher that stated that according to a poll, over 90 % of babies conceived out of wedlock by teens had "the devils rock music" playing during conception... leading to the conclusion that rock music causes teen pregnancy.   According to a different poll over 95% of pregnant married couples reported that there was a pillow present at conception.... so in fact pillows cause pregnancy.  )))

My opinion is people who already live their lives based on one conspiracy are easy pickings for pretty much any conspiracy.

Hey, believe what you want, just don't forget to tithe 10% of what you make to the richest organization on the planet, though, or you know.. Hell and all that.

Republicans bout to never win another election again

LOL, this is such a comical self-own. You can literally walk into any CVS/Walgreens and get a vaccine with no questions asked. Meanwhile the voter ID laws are purposely set to make it really hard for some people to get the proper ID. Meanwhile the right is willing to kill themselves out of spite when it comes to getting vaccinated and they'd be the ones affected by this.

I really hope someone calls his bluff on this and proposes the "Donald Trump Jr Election Security Act."

fair enough.   but STATISITICALLY it is hot garbage nonsense to break a population into groups, one of which is defined by its strong correlation with variable x (trump supporters), and then try to establish a correlation of that group with a separate variable y (being dumbasses).   and then use a bunch of explanatory variables (how much do you believe Trumps idiotic ramblings) to verify the correlation with variable y ..... while actively ignoring variable x which is clearly MORE correlated with the dependent variables...by definition.

It is just stupid math.   leave the stupid math to the other side

Yes, once you fall into the trap of "Us, select few are the only ones who know the truth" line of thinking it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy where you you are no longer required to actually back up any claims with facts or logic, you just "know" because you are part of the group.

Isn't that exactly what opinion means?
