  1. about ten years ago, I went on a ski trip with a friend and some people I didn’t know. When I got there I learned that it was a situation where someone had rented a condo and then invited friends, who invited friends, etc. there was 3-4 degrees of separation across the entire group and it ended up working great though. One night at dinner we were talking about vaccines, and one guy made a comment essentially saying, “well you don’t know what’s in those things or how well they test them.” I’m pretty sure it was boiler plate conversation-making and not the beginning of some kind of unhinged rant. Regardless, what happened next was glorious. It turned out that one person in the group worked for the cdc in Atlanta and another worked in R&D for a drugmaker— the ensuing verbal beat down was amazing.
  2. Ugh, that's one of those moments where you just resist the temptation to call out the idiot, and just follow up with, "So... just so I understand... you think Ukraine should join NATO?"
  3. There are men who pay large amounts of money for that sort of thing, so I'm told.
  4. Sadly, I'm guessing the reality is worse than the joke-- I'm guessing he got paid to post something like that and dozens of less savvy followers blindly followed his lead. It's the same thing when some mega free agent demands getting paid in Crypto. He's getting paid in cash, but some Crypto company is paying him to publicly make that demand.
  5. LOL, when I was in college, I joined a Thursday night bowling league with some friends. I always ended up being the driver because I had a car. One of my teammates would get absolutely hammered starting at dinnertime on Thursday because he didn't have class on Friday. He was always entertaining at bowling night. One night I drive everyone to the bowling alley and he's sitting in the rear right seat (opposite me, the driver). I park and we all get out, except for Mike, and he starts freaking out-- screaming at us and punching the back of the front passenger seat. I finally calm him down enough to ask him what's wrong and he says, "YOU JERKS ARE TRYING TO LOCK ME IN HERE. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR?!?!?" I was really confused for a second until I realized what was wrong-- I calmly said to him, "Mike... this is a four-door car." He calmly looks at me and his slurred, yet stoic voice, he says, "You can never tell anyone this happened." And then he got out.
  6. lol yeah— my favorite part of all this was Rudy Giuliani admitting all this on live tv, wondering what the outrage was about, and not realizing he was spilling the beans on a felony.
  7. Somewhere out there Kyle Rittenhouse and Ethan Couch are watching this meme and breathing a sigh of relief.
  8. I think we're debating two different things-- It's certainly possible that OJ had a DV incident in college and I wouldn't be shocked if any actual evidence came out. But this person's account from 30 years ago, about two incidents that happened almost 30 years before then raises a lot of red flags for me. It's heavily dramatized, fails a few logical checks, there's no way to fact check it, and it was posted on social media by someone who doesn't use their real name. Many parts of that story are possible, but that's different than being believable- I don't find that account believable at all. There's too many unsaid things that would have to be true that don't make any sense, namely: - The University covered up for OJ for years and either the President didn't know or didn't care until that day in 1995; at this point OJ had been arrested more than 6 months prior, so I'm certain he'd fielded a lot of questions about one of his most famous alumni in preceding months - Kardashian and Shapiro showed up to USC's campus together to make a large donation to cover up a sensitive matter, rather than meet privately somewhere off-campus. (As a comparison point, for a $100k donation, I can probably get Northwestern's president to come to my house for dinner, unfortunately I don't have $100k or a desire to have dinner with him). - They handed him a check which would've been physically handled and seen by multiple people before getting deposited, when a wire transfer (especially for a large sum) would suffice - Despite the fact that he's been answering questions about OJ for 6+ months at this point, the University President is so distraught that in a moment of weakness, he confides all this to a random undergrad student that works for him, despite a level of secrecy that requires NDAs - The University President also let this person hold the check where she'd presumably see the amount of the donation; even that could've been damaging as if she somehow got pulled into the legal mess, her "NDA" is invalidated and her knowledge of the amount would make it much easier to find financial transactions supporting this story - The NDA somehow expired when OJ died; USC is also complicit in this, so it makes no sense to make her silence only contingent on OJ's lifespan I'm not a defender of OJ by any means, but I do think this person trying to earn twitter points by making up a story knowing people will eat it up.
  9. I hate being the guy sounding like he’s defending OJ yet here we are— that story sounds incredibly fake. Even if all of the parts about OJ are true and the university covered it up, there’s no way they’d simultaneously be that secretive while also telling some random college junior working in the administration office. Also why would she sign the NDA at that point? They’d have to pay her to even do so. And then he let her hold the donation check? Besides all of that she points to her background as a criminal justice major as to why she was able to recognize Robert Shapiro and Robert Kardashian. Seriously? I was a 14-year-old on the east coast and I knew exactly who they were. There’s no way they could’ve been seen together on USCs campus in early 1995 and not created a major uproar about why they were there. If they really wanted to pay off the university, they would’ve invited him somewhere off campus to hand him the check. The whole thing just reads like a bad legal drama. (for the record, I completely believe that OJ had a history of domestic violence with Nicole and murdered her and her boyfriend that night… it’s just all this conjecture I find nonsensical)
  10. I'll agree to disagree on this one. He was married for 12 years before he married Nicole and his ex-wife has repeatedly denied any domestic violence issues. I could see why she'd deny it in the year's after their divorce-- she'd just be his bitter ex-wife since he was still a beloved figure. But she could've literally claimed anything in the past 30 years and we'd believe it. The multiple DV incidents with Nicole were well-documented, but the fact that he didn't have them with his first wife lead me to believe something changed-- that's not typical of an abuser.
  11. Also since so many people are reminiscing about the Bronco chase in June 1994, I highly recommend you watch the ESPN documentary “June 17” (if you haven’t already seen it). It’s about the sports world that day— the US Open golf tournament, opening day of the World Cup in the US, the oj chase, knicks-rockets in the NBA finals, and the rangers Stanley cup parade in New York. the best part is there’s little to no narration in the documentary. It’s just random tv clips as if you’re changing channels on tv, which is how most of us remember that evening.
  12. Just for everyone's clarity here (since I brought up CTE in this thread). I actually don't care about CTE when it's comes to causality. If he murdered , then he murdered and his victims deserve justice. I care more because it's another proof point of how awful the NFL was with the entire issue. Two of Hernandez' murders happened because a guy spilled a drink on him at a club, so Hernandez followed them home and shot at their car. Even in the worst-case scenario, that should've been a bar fight, a night in jail, a fine, some community service and probation.
  13. OJ, Aaron Hernandez, Junior Seau and Mike Webster are the Mount Rushmore of CTE. I really hope they get to scan his brain.
  14. Lol yeah,if you have the $100M, you can easily afford the other things (eg: cars and houses) or they don't matter (eg: your credit score) I'm taking the $10M upfront, $200k monthly and no sickness
  15. This is actually small potatoes for the mapmaker. One of my favorite stories was the complexities of rendering a map in Kashmir-- the disputed region between India and Pakistan. Legally speaking-- they had to render a different map depending on whether a device was in India or Pakistan. If you were in India, the map of India showed the India-Pakistan border as if Kashmir was completely part of India. Likewise, if you were in Pakistan, it was rendered as if Kashmir was completely part of Pakistan. More practically speaking, the region is split by a line of control and India and Pakistan each control a piece of Kashmir. If you're on the Indian side of the LOC, you get the Indian version of the map, etc. Now here's the really tricky part-- if you're trying to drive from one part of Kashmir to another, theoretically speaking, regardless of which country Kashmir belongs to, you should be able to drive between two points of the region. In reality though, you might be crossing a military checkpoint between the two countries and it's not realistic to drive between those two points. So basically, they have to render one map based on one set of logic to appease political entities, while computing directions based on a completely different map that's based on reality. Wash/rinse/repeat this in every disputed border in the world- Korea, Ukraine, Israel/Gaza/West Bank, China/Taiwan (luckily you can't drive this one :D), etc.
  16. The mass short on $DJT might end up having the opposite effect on the stock. At some point people will need to cover their short and actual shares will be in short supply. It’s already speculated that trump is using the stock offering to let his Russian pals invest in him. They’d be more than happy to refuse to sell and create a short squeeze. Also WTF happened to Dean Cain?
  17. LOL, Paul McCartney is like 80 years old and is out there collaborating with Beyonce, while Kid Rock is busy starting a feud with... check notes... Planet Fitness.
  18. you joke but… https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/court-oks-barring-high-iqs-cops/story?id=95836 “A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.”
  19. i used to work for a competitor to Google maps and it turns out that outside of the technical reasons for a lag in officially removing a segment of road (e.g.: replication across multiple clouds, internal processes to make sure major segments of road don’t get removed haphazardly), people also get really emotional about maps. We literally dealt with riots because of how disputed international borders were drawn, or how a controversial road was named. It seems silly but it would’ve looked really insensitive to just remove the Key bridge from the map while Baltimore was still dealing with the crisis. Marking the road as closed for a few days instead achieves the same result.
  20. LOL, one of the few bright spots of the Jan 6 was the video clip that surfaced of all the nutjobs at DCA waiting for their flights, spotting Lindsey Graham and then harassing him. I guess we've lost that now.
  21. Streaming the game on mlb.tv-- Jim Palmer just went on a random stream of consciousness rant about Mickey Tettleton, Elton John and Blink 182.
