The silver lining is this is a massive expense to the RNC and donors/pacs

Add Fulton county and this is going to going to be hundreds of millions in legal expenses (I believe earlier this week it came out they’ve already spent 40 million?)

Not sure if this was covered before, but hypothetically if Trump was convicted and sentenced to prison, could he still run or get elected while serving his sentence ?

What would happen if a person in prison actually won the presidency is a thornier question. Would the new president have to govern from a jail cell?  Probably not. Many legal experts argue that a state-court sentence would have to be held in abeyance. Whether a federal sentence would also have to be postponed is less clear, but the question might not matter if the new president used his pardon power to set himself free — or preemptively pardon himself from any pending federal charges. (The pardon power covers federal crimes, but not state crimes like the New York charges for which Trump was indicted this week.)

We've had felons run for president before. One winning is the real unknown.

Or a good handful of Proud Boy or other assorted Nazi assholes marching around town and causing trouble on several occasions

Didn't some redneck drive a pickup truck he said was a bomb onto the steps of the Supreme Court?

Trump plans to use charges to revisit 2020 election, a fraught topic for GOP

Quote

Former president Donald Trump and some of his legal advisers see an upside to the latest criminal case against him: He can use his upcoming trial to further argue his false claims of a stolen 2020 election.

The looming courtroom showdown is poised to push his insistence that election fraud occurred in 2020 toward the center of the 2024 presidential campaign, a dismaying prospect for Republicans and some of Trump’s advisers who have urged him to stop belaboring that subject. Trump’s defense team has signaled that they’ll focus on rebutting prosecutors’ allegations that Trump knew his fraud claims were false.

Watching the wheels fall off the clown car is always amusing

The clown car is still poling in the high 40's...the wheels aren't even flat, much less coming off.  The guy is gonna get convicted and still be a threat to get elected.  I mean its nice to see the justice system "working", but lets not overestimate the idea that a conviction will be anything other than a minor speed bump.

It seems so surreal that it's even a possibility but what would happen if he was in prison and won the election?

Would they have to let him out to serve his term?

It's just totally insane to even contemplate.

Not a legal expert, so no idea.  But just 'cause its insane shouldn't make us think its impossible: the country has been sanity challenged the last few years.
