Biden spotlights Trump's attacks on football with battleground state ad blitz

As the NFL draft kicks off this week, President Joe Biden's campaign is launching a new digital ad on Thursday taking aim at former President Donald Trump's past comments disparaging football and the league, the Biden campaign told ABC News.

The short, 20-second ad, on YouTube, features a montage of Trump previously attacking football, calling it "boring as hell" and saying "nobody cares about football," juxtaposed with Biden greeting and touting his relationship with football players.

The ad -- the latest skirmish in the early part of Biden's general election fight against Trump, which is expected to be close -- ends with the message: "Make the right pick in November."

The ad plays into the longstanding feud between the NFL and Trump, who had once owned rival United States Football League team the New Jersey Generals in the 1980s and reportedly tried to buy the Buffalo Bills in 2014 but was unsuccessful after investors doubted the NFL would allow it.

According to the Biden campaign, the new ad will target football fans across battleground states including in Green Bay, Wisconsin; in Detroit; in Phoenix; and in Pittsburgh. The ad will also air in Atlanta, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Las Vegas.

The thing from this that sticks out is that Charlotte is included in its limited, targeted release. North Carolina is definitely in play.

Former President Donald Trump’s political operatives are putting together a plan that would give him unprecedented influence over the Federal Reserve, including a provision that could make him an “acting” central bank board member, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

Not linking WSJ directly since it's paywalled, but cnbc article is not paywalled.  I cannot emphasize enough how terrible an idea this is.  To any voter with an ounce of sanity, this has to be straight up disqualifying regardless of party leaning.  If anyone wants an example how insane it is to have political concerns meddle with the central bank, just go look at the Turkish Lira since Erdogan's stupidity.

President Joe Biden sat down for a surprise interview in New York with iconic radio host Howard Stern on SiriusXM on Friday. The interview was announced just minutes before the two went on the air.

he interview comes one day after a report from POLITICO was published about tension between Biden's White House and The New York Times stemming from Biden's refusal to sit with the paper of record for an interview. The Times pushed back on the report, but condemned the president for not sitting for interviews with traditional media outlets, calling it "troubling that President Biden has so actively and effectively avoided questions from independent journalists during his term."

"It is true that The Times has sought an on-the-record interview with Mr. Biden, as it has done with all presidents going back more than a century," the New York Times said in a statement. "If the president chooses not to sit down with The Times because he dislikes our independent coverage, that is his right, and we will continue to cover him fully and fairly either way."

To someone who has, at least twice, proposed dealing with the national debt by "seeing if they would accept partial payments."

Left out from. The NYT statement....."yeah, we aren't much better than a tabloid and haven't been in a long time. But we continue to be upset with Biden while we also help prop up our Cheeto Jesus, and attack the current President for the dumbest **** we can fit into print."

'Insurrectionist' Freedom Caucus member flails as legal fees cripple re-election: report

The political future of Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), a rabid supporter of Donald Trump whose involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection has led to legal fees that have drained his cash coffers, is reported to be increasingly in doubt.

Perry, one of the faces of the far-right Freedom Caucus, now has a formidable opponent for his seat in a district that has undergone changes making it far less red, and Democrats are planning to outgun him with money — a scheduled $2.4 million in TV ads in the four weeks before election day.

According to a report from the New York Times' Robert Draper, Perry, a notoriously poor fundraiser, is entering the "postprimary season with about $500,000 in cash on hand, less than any other House Republican facing a significant general election challenge."

That comes after he has had to divert $327,000 to pay his legal fees as the Department of Justice seized his phone while investigating his part in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

According to the Times, after the primary this week where former Republican Janelle Stelson, a popular local TV personality, won the Democratic nomination, the Cook Political Report shifted the battle from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican.”

I've already seen it here in ATL.  While north and south GA are in play, I think Biden has the metro area (again).

But Biden doesn't need to win every county.  He needs to win the state.  Getting 1,000 more people to vote in Atlanta counts the same as getting 1,000 people to vote in Podunk.

A day later, and I am still amazed at what I feel is the mis-reading in the Trump immunity case arguments.  My preferred outcome SCOTUS just going with the DC Circuit and his trial resuming quickly, is likely not going to happen.

But people assuming Trump will gain a lot (aside from the delay) are also mis-reading arguments.  Gorsuh and Kavanaugh and Alito (to a lesser extent) and Roberts were focussed on a rule for other cases.  Gorsuch had it correct that, it's likely whatever they rule will likely never be seen again for 2 political generations.  And it also will likely bound Presidents in some way.  So they don't want Obama to worry aboit drone strikes, or Bush worrying about misleading America regarding Iraq.  But, Trump is cooked.  Barrett enumerated a bunch of things regarding this case and a lot were not official acts.  Trump's lawyer even conceded that.

Remind me in 2 months...

For those who may not know, that was an infamously hysterical cover on an issue of one of my primary developmental influences as a yute, National Lampoon Magazine, back when we played steam-powered guitars. 👍

RNC urges police to extend protestor restrictions around Milwaukee convention venue

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has reportedly sent a letter to the Secret Service asking them to keep protesters further away from the Milwaukee convention venue in July.

The three-page letter, reported first by The New York Times, objected to a plan that had a specific area where protesters would be able to demonstrate.

Todd R. Steggerda, the letter’s author and counsel to the RNC, said people who are attending the convention would have to pass by the protesters on their way into Fiserv Forum, where the event is being held.

The Hill has reached out to the RNC for a copy of the letter, but the Times reported that Steggerda referenced the ongoing pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses. He said that “forced proximity” between the groups that have “differing ideologies” will increase the risk of verbal or physical altercations.

The security plan proposed by the Secret Service would place protesters at Pere Marquette Park, a small public park that’s a quarter of a mile from the convention center, according to the letter.

“Packing demonstrators into a park essentially boxed in by the two streets that thousands of attendees will be using to enter the convention site will only serve to heighten — rather than prevent and diffuse — any tension,” Steggerda wrote.

The RNC did not propose a different location for protesters to gather, but said the Secret Service should expand its security perimeter to have protesters further away from the arena.

For anyone who didn't read the dog-killing section of Noem's book, the dog sounded violent and uncontrollable so it was not just that she didn't like it or that it wouldn't hunt...

At the same time, though, there are A MILLION OTHER WAYS OF HANDLING A DOG LIKE THAT OTHER THAN SHOOTING IT IN THE HEAD...there are literally dozens if not hundreds of organizations in the U.S. that specialize in training dogs to control their "alpha-ness" (for lack of a better way of putting it) and training it to socialize itself, often with the use of other well-behaved alpha dogs laying down the law. But Noem had the mentality of "What do I need them for? I have a gun." Sheesh...really do feel this will do her in for anything other than keeping her seat as governor. And maybe not even that.

Kristi killed a goat as well tho. She clearly a psycho killer. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Quote

Her family, she writes, also owned a male goat that was “nasty and mean”, because it had not been castrated. Furthermore, the goat smelled “disgusting, musky, rancid” and “loved to chase” Noem’s children, knocking them down and ruining their clothes.

She killed the goat because it smelled and got her kids clothes dirty.

Also who takes a puppy hunting without proper training and expects it to behave properly? A crazy **** that's who.
