This is really what America is up against.  You got a large group of people just clueless.

And it's also a result of the President of the United States telling his followers not to believe journalism but to listen to him instead.  And apparently they buy it, despite his long, well documented track record of lying.  About most everything.

**** you Hume. Seriously, this ****ing news group cult needs to implode.

"Fox News’ Brit Hume defended comments from Texas lieutenant governor Dan Patrick Tuesday night, saying it is “entirely reasonable” that elderly Americans could be fine with dying amid the coronavirus outbreak to save the U.S. economy.

“The utter collapse of the country’s economy — which many think will happen if this goes on much longer — is an intolerable result,” the 76-year-old told primetime host Tucker Carlson. “[Patrick] is saying, for his own part, that he would be willing to take a risk of getting the disease if that’s what it took to allow the economy to move forward. He said that because he is late in life, that he would be perhaps more willing than he might have been at a younger age, which seems to me to be an entirely reasonable viewpoint.”

Hmmm....actually, I hope their listeners take the advice.

Nothing noble about a sacrifice that anyone with a functioning brain knows wont work anyway.

Governor Hogan ended his press conference today with something like:

“We’re not putting a timeline on saving people’s lives. We’re going to make decisions based on the facts.”

I voted against him twice, but I’m glad he is where he is right now.

Many of them have no idea that he lies. Winger press does not cover it and they make sure that they repeat his lies no matter the consequences.

I think they have, too.

Also turning into a cult, the people obsessed with hating him.

That's called common sense.

I have less contempt for the ignorant than for those who support him with eyes wide open.

what?

The cost of prolonged economic shutdown isn’t just or even mainly the stick market, it’s everyone’s jobs.  Without revenue businesses aren’t staying open. If businesses aren’t open there aren’t jobs.

I feel like opening the economy back up would be easier if Trump the one wasn’t talking... I highly doubt Obama would accept our economy being shutdown for months, but then again it might not have even been necessary..

Obama probably would have been a bit more proactive in his approach rather than reacting to what happened in the absence of his leadership. We already know we would have atleast been more prepared to THINK about a pandemic as a possibility and who knows how far ahead we and the world would have been with, at worst, someone willing to listen to the professionals.

That and Obama is not and never has been a slum lord. People dont trust trump. Hes not deserving of it. That by itself changes the conversation. Its possible that Obama would have been the better salesman that Trump just because people can tell hes a good person and not a raging orange ****.

It’s not the stock market, it’s your job...

Woah, woah, woah!

I read an article chiding Americans for not having 6 months in an "emergency fund" set up for all their expenses -- I think the title was "American's financial irresponsibility being shown".

Shouldn't businesses have 6 months "emergency fund" saved up for all their expenses too?

Yes, I know I am being sarcastic/facetious... however; why do we get to bail out corporate irresponsibility?

We have basically backstopped the banks twice, with taxpayer funds. I think I said it in '08 and believe it more now.

If we are going to backstop the banks (twice) why not just own them outright and nationalize them as a utility?

Is that too "dangerous" for half the countries "political ideals"?  Did you see that Boeing CEO said, "if we have to give up a stake in our company, don't bail us out."?

The rank hypocrisy of our public policy (socialism) and public attitudes toward "socialism" is ridiculous!  These bailouts are corporate socialism which to me is the worst kind.  Why?  Because when those corporations are profitable they want to reduce their tax burden, and call any type of support for the individual citizen "socialism".

There is a huge difference between months and Trump talking about next week, that he eventually backpedaled to Easter yesterday.

I will never understand how the voters get past this. They are literally saying this time that their lives arnt worth losing money over and people actually agree with that ****

That’s because you have it backwards

these people aren’t forming quality opinions.

they’re just repeating what their favorite politicians say

that’s all there is to it. Supporting trump and the gop takes precedent over everything, including lives.

I've just finished reading Steven Pinker's Enlightenment Now.  Highly recommend it.

There's fascinating incite in there on tribalism as it pertains to religion, sex, sports, culture and of course, politics.  The references to the right wing and Donald Trump, how they are turning inward on themselves and away from globalism (and science) is fascinating. So much of what we are experiencing now from the White House is discussed in detail.

Good read...
