Being Mr Nice guy guarantees him a bunch of happy players and a 6-10 record. AP didn't play in preseason, did he? That does not point to a guy to be active in week 1. An argument could be made the Skins best player is inactive today.

Positional needs aside then there is the whole psychology aspect to it, where now we have a unhappy and dejected future Hall of fame running back pouting in the locker room. You really think the vets on our team approve or like this decision ? What a jack ass Gruden is. Mwha 6 inactives + 3th QB. Ross Pier - Olineman Colt - QB Brantly or Hester - D line (based on health) Fabian - CB Tanner - ILB Harmon or Sims - WR Not sure who the last one would be... EDIT Reed would be the last inactive! So probably means that Tanner will be active and A.P. inactive.

Or Norval Gruden is butthurt over Perine being cut. Lost one of his busted toys. If it takes you six years to stop being “nice,” it’s already too late and no one will take you seriously. AP did play. He was effective in his limited carries and it was time on the field like any known starter gets. No less.

Spaceman Spiff
Happy that Guice gets a big shot today, kinda pissed that Peterson is inactive. It's like anything else in sports. If Guice goes for 120 yards and a touchdown or two today, Gruden looks like a genius. But if the running attack stalls, Guice gets like 50 yards, then...well, wtf. moondog
I have no idea why they would have Smallwood up over AP. Him and guice are our two best offensive players. And we need to run the ball. Smallwood is purely a returner on ST and sims showed he’s probably at least as good if not better on both return teams. If they’re both up and AP is down then it’s just a terrible call by the staff and it’s the wrong freakin call.

KDawg
And I just read a report that many veteran players are upset that AP is inactive. This team always does something incredibly stupid. What a distraction. If this was Gruden giving the middle finger to the FO for not letting him cut AP, Gruden needs to be fired. This was a bad move. I don’t care how good Guice is. And then right after Allen needs to be fired for not letting Gruden cut a guy he wasn’t going to use.
dyst
Future hall of famer, who was your offensive player of the year and he is a healthy scratch. Every time this team makes a stupid decision I get made at the idiot fans that still support them.
skinzplay
Just a dumb guy masquerading as a HC for far too long. What was the lone bright spot in that game against the Eagles last year? AP. Who had a 90-yarder for a TD against the Eagles D last year? AP. Who comes out of the gate hungry every game, and finishes the same way? AP. So yeah, logic would dictate that you make him inactive in the first game of the season, on the road, against a conference opponent. Because, of course, we have no injury problems on this team. Guice and Thompson have had more surgeries than Colonel Steve Austin, but no problem, make AP inactive.
moondog
What a travesty. Smallwood over AP so he can maybe have 2-3 touches on st that could be better off given to sims anyway. Basically choosing two returners over having AP who may still be our best RB. At worst he’s our second best offensive player. On a team that you want to run 30 times and control the clock. Where your left side can’t pass block. You build this team for the ground game then handicap yourself and pull some jv bs like this that pisses off players and fans alike and doesn’t make sense. Guice could get 120 and we could win, it’s still a dumbass move and unforgivable.
theTruthTeller
Can't help but believe that AP has been pushing to get Trent back ASAP, and that has fractured some relationships. This doesn't make sense for the first game of the season.
Poindexter
I knew this was coming.....Jay and AP bumped heads earlier before the decision to make "the offense go through Guice" decision was made. AP wants to be the man and he works harder than anyone to assure he gets plenty of playing time during the season. AP helps to see tickets as well....future hall of famer who still has gas left in the tank being inactive is just nuts. Gruden is going to lose this team sooner than later. Bruce will hopefully be right behind him as well.
Warhead36
Tactically it makes sense to sit AP. He is NOT a good change of pace back. Sucked in that role in Arizona and sucked in that role in New Orleans. He's a workhorse who needs 10+ carries just to get warmed up. Better to start Guice and feed him, use Thompson as the change of pace/3rd down guy, and Smallwood for teams.

I don't see any scenario where Gruden looks like a genius even if Guice goes for 250 yards and we win. Why get off to a bad start in the locker room with a hall of fame vet who not only carried us last season but at some point this year may be called upon once again to shoulder the load. Plus they are already saying on ESPN some players in are locker room don't like this. Why? Why manufacture drama Jay ?!

Having said that, from a team building perspective this was a total fail. AP is well liked by his teammates and was the offensive MVP last year. If they weren’t going to use him he needed to be released.

Poindexter
All I know is Jay is really really gambling right now. Guice could have a great day and most importantly make it through unharmed. However, he could have a poor outing, coupled with our lack of experienced and healthy wide receivers, no Jordan Reed, no Trent Williams and a defense that outside of the DLine has not really had a lot of game experience together. This game could go south really quickly.
