HogNose
352. O Brother, Where Art Thou? ^^^^ Great soundtrack! Definitely deserves to be among the 500. Speaking of soundtracks I will add: 353. The Big Chill Soundtrack (1983) A great collection of Motown hits along with other classics from the 60''s including Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale". SilverChair - Diorama If you only know them from the album they made when they were 15, which inexplicably received major radio attention in the mid-90s, time to open your ears. A bit of Sabbath, a bit of Queen, a bit of Bowie and string arrangements by the incomparable Van Dyke Parks. Consider...

CRobi21
Try it now. No not hearing it. Distorted guitars is about all they have in common. Sounds more like a less technical Tool. Or a heavier Nirvana. Not for me. And that guitarist should never try to solo again. Wow. That was painful.

Dream Theater -- Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a MemoryDream Theater needs to be on this list. While I am not the biggest DT fan, I recognize John Petrucci as one of the greatest guitarists of all time and this album is some of his best work. Both Overture 1928 and the song Home from this album cause every guitarist I've ever known to weep and gnash their teeth at how clean and precise Petrucci's playing is. glad someone added dream theater.. PCS
Okay. Let's see here. Giving credit for the first of two suggestions,so that's plus one carry the two and Hognose's entry was actually 355 I believe. So. 359 Tough to peg these guys with just one of their albums. But a lot of their music can be identified fairly easily and with the times it came out,(almost a you had to be there thing). So I think I'll go with a greatest hits thing in their case,(still like several of their albums in whole though).
drtdrums
356. SilverChair - Diorama If you only know them from the album they made when they were 15, which inexplicably received major radio attention in the mid-90s, time to open your ears. Hey!!! I like Frogtstomp!!! =p Actually, I can't listen to any other album from them. I agree that their arrangements are significantly more mature on Diorama, though. But the maturity in arrangement seems to have come at the price of raw honesty. Frogstomp really was one of the first good post-grunge albums, though why Tomorrow was the single off it, I'll never know. Israel's Son and Suicidal Dreams I loved. But that they wrote this at 15 just blows my mind: ---------- Post added February-25th-2012 at 01:36 PM ---------- 360. In Flames - Reroute to Remain In Flames is one of the progenitors (and I would argue the most important) of the Melodic Death Metal genre. They are a major influence on many American and European acts across several subgenres. No two albums are alike, and they are one of the very few bands in any genre that have evolved consistently from their inception while also remaining at the top of their game. Most In Flames fans would argue with my picking this album (they would argue one of the first four albums should be listed), but my reasoning here is simple: This album contains heavy riffage as well as more listener-friendly elements. It is what I would use as a snapshot of their catalog to introduce new listeners. It's the best bridge from their beginning to their current state. I hope no one complains, but I will post a "before, during, and after" series of 3 vids to show what I mean. 1996: (One of the best metal lead guitar performances of all time) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLPXAcAsLgo 2002: 2011:
Bang
361 The Hoodoo Gurus - Stoneage Romeos Very tight power pop / "alternative" rock from Australia in the mid 80s. This is a damn good jam. ~BAng
Guest Spearfeather
362. Faces - A Nod is as Good as a Wink....to a Blind Horse Ronnie Wood who would be with the Stones a few years later ( along with keyboardist McLagan who would tour with them ) Kenny Jones on drums who would take over for Keith Moon for the Who, and of course Stewart and Lane. " In your face " Rock along with some great ballads. Thought these guys deserved a mention.

deejaydana
Holy Smokes, The Hoodoo Gurus! I never thought anyone would remember that band. Great call Bang, I played those guys to death back in my younger days. Here's an artist who does a lot of guitar work on other people's albums but has some GREAT ones of his own. 363). M. Ward----Hold Time (2009)Solid, solid guitar player and just incredibly "listenable" music. I love that he's somewhat under the radar. Not much to watch in the clip below but please check out the guitar work as well as the production on this song. Love the distortion he gets on this one. Pretty cool chill out jam, no? I thought about putting Mars Needs Guitars on a few times but kept picking other stuff. Based on some of the playlists you used to post from the Bang Music Hour, I was expecting a different Aussie band.
