Bang
310 The Slickee Boys - Cybernetic Dreams of Pi In the 80s the DC music scene was actually pretty vibrant, a lot of good energy. My favorite of all of them were the Slickee Boys. MANY a weekend did I spend at the old Saba club, the PscheDelly and other places slamdancing to the Slickees. What fun. The music is pretty tight, high energy, heavily influenced by late 60s psychedelia.. and laced with humor.. they had a very good backbone, the bass and drummer were better than your average local bar band, and Marshall Kieth is a hell of a guitar player.. smoking hot riffs and solos careen through these songs. (He tunes pianos nowadays out of Olney, I believe. ) he had that early 80s look, sort of mixing between the polka dot spandex hairband stuff with a wild tall spiky hairdo, and scarves all over.. the other guitar player, Kim Kane,, looked like Frank Zappa on about 4 hits of window-pane. Strong physical resemblance, and about 6 feet tall, all of 100 pounds soaking wet it would seem,, he'd bounce all over the stage,, running full bore to the very edge and then pitching back.. more than a few dozen times I expected him n our laps. The singer was Mark Noone, and if you didn't know who he was, you'd swear he was some CPA who got lost and ended up in the place,,, but a great MC of fun he is. Not the strongest vocalist, but it didn't matter. this is about their only "hit" Just a fun song off a fun album by a fun band. Good high energy80s rock and roll. Quirky, punky, and clever. ~Bang

SoulSkin
Great call on Van Morrison. "Into The Mystic" is one heckuva song but that entire album is amazing. Yeah, it is great top to bottom. I like Caravan a lot. I bought the guitar book for this a few years ago. The guitar was hard enough, but man, you don't realize what a great singer he is unless you try to sing his songs. I knew it was time to give it up when my neighbor's dog started yelping.

I don't really think that's necessary here. I like this list because you might come across something besides another "classic rock" list (one that wouldn't have a single album you didn't already know about). I also like the fact that we have jazz, country and even comedy albums already. All of it is fair game to me.

I also like the fact that we have jazz, country and even comedy albums already. All of it is fair game to me. I don't have a problem with eclectic album lists. I like some rap, I like Weird Al, I like some of the jazz and blues stuff on there. But you cannot deny that there are a couple artists/bands up there who simply don't belong. I don't want to name them right now because I don't want people to think they are being "called out" but a couple on the list are just terrible for this list. Again though, just my opinion. *and MLSkins- OP says you have to wait 10 posts before putting up another nomination

But like I said, it's not just me, it's all of us. If somebody on here feels strong enough that Hanson's best album is worthy of listening to before dieing, then let the no taste having fool put it on here. Dan T.
316 - Jimmy Cliff and others - The Harder They Come Soundtrack (1972) This album, from a crappy forgettable movie, may have done more to raise awareness and appreciation for reggae music in the U.S. than any other. Califan007 The Constipated
So if someone put Hanson or Brittney Spears on there you wouldn't have any objection? I for one would have ZERO problem with it. Hell, I think a Barry Manilow "Best Of" deserves to be on this list lol...has little to do with critical prestige but with the idea that everyone should hear some soft rock from the 70s before they die, and Manilow might have been the king of that milquetoast genre. jaybrant
318? Kanye West - College Dropout I thought about adding this one earlier but there were some better albums that I wanted to add first. I know it has a lot of filler, skits and what not.. but man I played this album from front to back for months when it first came out and listen to a bunch of the tracks still.. *Jesus Walks, Two Words, All Falls Down, Family Business, I'll Fly Away, Never Let Me Down, Last Call. Great album in my opinion.

deejaydana
And keeping with a country theme.... 320) Drive By Truckers "Brighter Than Creation's Dark" (2006). If you like country influenced rock this is worth a listen. A number of really good tunes on this one among them The Righteous Path, A Ghost to Most and Three Daughters and a Beautiful Wife. For some reason I think these guys have garnered much more praise in the UK than here. Gritty themes, a lot of American Deep South stories and some shady characters and just good ole plain beer swilling tunes.
