Bang
Love the Hoodoo Gurus! I thought about putting Mars Needs Guitars on a few times but kept picking other stuff. Based on some of the playlists you used to post from the Bang Music Hour, I was expecting a different Aussie band. The Saints maybe? The Bang Music Hour is going to be back on a bigger station just as soon as some things are ironed out. The station is online, but not quite ready to go live just yet. Right now it just plays loops. ~Plug

It always sticks out to me when I see someone mention them because I love I'm Stranded and Eternally Yours. I always had a thing for some of those Australian bands... loved The Saints, Radio Birdman, Midnight Oil, The Celibate Rifles, and The Lime Spiders. Good luck with the show! Me saying that is just saying it is my favorite ever. Although I know many people who would cosign me on that. Hell on Earth isn't far behind. 36 Chambers, Midnight Marauders, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, ATLiens, '93 til Infinity, The Sun Rises in the East, Illadelph Halflife....some albums that jump into my head when I think of best hip hop album ever. Bang
373 The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Their Satanic Majesties Second Request So it's pretty obvious this band is influenced by the Rolling Stones, although I can't think of a single song in which they sound like the Stones. Their music is soaked in LSD, and I mean quadruple dipped and then thrown into a vat of it for good measure.. The "band" is from San Francisco and since the early 90s there's really only been one mainstay.. Anton Newcombe, the guitar player and songwriter, and occasional singer. There have been over 40 other members traipsing in and out over the years. (One guy you can see in a bunch of live videos on youtube seems to only have one job... smoke cigarettes and look like a beatnik douche right in the center of the stage. Occasionally he'll smack a tambourine lazily on his hip and look bored.) I chose this album because it's got some really good tracks, including "Anenome" which is their best, IMO. But this album is like most of them,, some excellent gems that you should hear, and some stuff that isn't so good. A "greatest hits" might serve better for the uninitiated, but they don't have one that I know of. You may have heard them and not know it. The opening theme to "Boardwalk Empire" is clipped from their song "Straight Up and Down". Anyway, here's Anenome, and it's a great song, IMO. Hypnotic.. This isn't an official video, this chick is just some fan who made this, and she's worth looking at, too.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiBTLsS8yvo ~Bang
deejaydana
Bang, Not to patronize but I'm really impressed with some of the bands you've been pulling out here. I don't know how many people even know about that last choice you made today. You may have already seen it ,but they did a documentary about that band (B.J.M.) a few years back called Dig! and it's really worth checking out. It showcases some of their live material and a not-always-friendly rivalry they had with the Dandy Warhols (who have at least one disc worth picking up btw). If nothing else, it's worth watching just to see how tempting, frustrating and challenging (or destructive?) being a traveling rock band trying to make it can be.
