Welcome to the Redskins Terry Mclaurin WR Ohio State

PCS

Recommended Posts

I post weekly updates in the next day thread...

But Terry is on pace for 100 rec and 1400 yards.

He is 31st in franchise history in receiving yards as of today.

If he gets to the projected 1400 yards he would end the season in 23rd all time for the franchise.

He is setting a hellacious pace.

Still though, I was curious why Vanderesch didn't block him with more ooomph.  Terry just ran around him.  Usually, you see some really good lights-out blocks after interceptions.

Like everyone else, he probably figured there was no real chance Terry was gonna catch him.

But it brings up something I've noticed on long plays headed for the end zone, both of offense and with turnovers.  Sometimes, teammates without the ball seem more intent on escorting their teammate into the end zone than on blocking opponents. Usually it works out.  But sometimes that inattention results in the guy getting caught because of a block not made.

I think defenders are scared of messing up and getting called for block in the back or holding and being seen as the guy who got a TD called back.

football blocking is basically set up so once you're by them it's hard to deal with someone.  You'd basically have to be able to run at speed backward to be properly  engage someone pursuing

See the guy who's #22 on the chart above?  Frank Grant.  Little-known fact:  When he was traded by Head Coach Jack Pardee in 1978, WFT was 6-0.  After the trade, WFT went 2-8 to finish the year 8-8.  We were 3-0 in the NFC-E when the trade was made, including a 9-5 victory over Dallas on MNF when Dallas was the best team in the NFC.  If Jack Pardee had not cursed himself by trading Frank Grant when he was 6-0, the Gibbs Years would not have happened.

If you think I'm making this up, I'm not.  Don't mistake embellishment for making stuff up.

I'm just going to pretend that they drafted Terry #15 overall in 2019 from here on out.

With Sweat who was actually drafted in the first round glaring at me over there, with his hands raised higher than I can throw a football, I'm going to pretend that Terry was taken with our 2nd round pick.  Oh, hi Montez, yes, why yes I'd love to have your autograph, especially being our 1st draft pick in 2019!

Please don't ever refer to our pre-Dannyboy era as WFT.  Those were the Redskins, dammit.
