You remember the 3rd and 13 we had to begin the second half? Where we threw a screen to Cam Sims who gained 31 yards? Terry is split out wide alone on the left and Logan Thomas, Cam Sims and I think Steven Sims Jr. are all on the right side.

After the ball is snapped, 4 (!) players of the Steelers are going to the left side to make sure the ball isn't going to Terry. This leaves 3 players against our three receivers on the right side. They were afraid of Terry, they didn't care about anyone else on our team. So if you look at the stat line, you'd think Terry didn't have a good game but the number 1 defense in the league sold out to stop him. Imagine if we had another respectable wideout...

McLaurin was drawing double teams from Joe Haden and Minkah Fitzpatrick, two guys who are top 5 at the league in their positions if not the best. That's respect right there, and it opened up opportunities for Thomas and Sims to make plays which he did.

Run TMC had one of his most impactful games of his career on Monday which sounds crazy because of the lack of production.

You mean like one who could gain 31 yards on 3rd and 13 to begin the second half...?

We badly need another receiving option to pull coverage of of McL. Pitt dared us to attack them with anyone other than our top option. There was zero respect for our other players. They flat out left McK and Thomas unguarded on multiple occasions. It was clear that after we lost Gibson, the game plan was to blanket Terry and nothing else.

Got through it this week, but we don't have the depth needed to continue to do so without abusing our RBs, something that will be even harder if we lose Gibby.

We need McL to be productive to get things done. Gotta spread the D out a little more, but that wont happen if opponents will not even respect your other players.

We need a #2 that other teams know they have to guard.

Imo McLaurin was mostly used as a distraction in that game. His ankle injury is probably severely hindering his abilities. Once again he was limited in practice today with this ankle injury, it's kind of obvious that he probably needs to sit a few weeks.

To be honest, he should not have been out there. They had him running short routes just to be a decoy, but he was obviously hurt.

We have no depth at WR tho, so even a gimpy McL has to play....

Re-activate inman and WR has to be need 1 or 2 this offseason.

The thing is any Top 15 defense is going to be able to game plan how to take a single player on offense away.  With WFT Terry McLaurin is that guy.  Defense are committed to him not beating the coverage and they will use any combination of coverage or scheme to make it happen.  The question then becomes why can't the other WRs beat these one on one matches more often?  Until a defense is punished and exposed for over-committing to taking a single player out of the game, they will continue to do that until someone else requires that coverage as well.

Guys like Logan Thomas & Cam Sims, they show flashes in some games, some of the time, but neither are consistently at the kind of level that will move the extra coverage off of McLaurin.
