Redskins to sign Adrian Peterson per NFL.com

Not sure about this.

Does this leave WFT with a RB stable of guys who run gadget plays and swing passes all game? Because we know those plays and those guys aren't as effective when trying to preserve a lead, chew up the game clock and tire out an already tired D line. I'm sure WFT's RBs will be fun to watch in the 2nd quarter of a game where you're pulling out anything you want from the playbook, but if they're fortunate to finally get back to being a team that can have the lead going into the 4th quarter, I'd like to see someone who can play a bit more old school getting the carries. AP could still do that, and he provided a mentor for the RB room, and a veteran presence for the whole team. Maybe the coaches see something that tells them AP isn't capable anymore, but that would surprise me if true.

I'll bet there's some teams who appreciate what a veteran like AP can still bring that will consider signing him.

I suspect that the Redskins are going to be worse this year without Adrian Peterson, but they are okay with being a little worse now if it means they'll be better down the road. This is a year to take their lumps.

That's something we've always strenuously avoided. We never wanted to rebuild. We always tried to retool.

Keeping Barber in my view supports the idea it was due to scheme. Not to say age and pay has piece of the overall pie.

Don’t think it’s a rebuild type situation, too much going on the defensive side of the ball. They missed on Cooper and Hooper. The offense just lacks talent it doesn’t mean it’s a rebuild.

I suspect that the Washington Redskins Whatevers are going to be better this year without Adrian Peterson.  I am not sure how much worse we can be, actually. Far too much drama just making him inactive for 1 game. Gruden got ****ed as injury prone fragile' Guice instantly tapped out. It wasn't long ago no other team wanted him.

We were ~10-22 with him the feature back of our O.

Maybe its time to lockerup and start a proper RB thread. Whatevers running corp is beginning to shape up

Who is our RB anyways.

Hey ap to the lions

I’m happy that AP is getting a chance elsewhere :) Detroit is probably a very good choice, they don’t have a primary starting RB, do they? Or any that are in the situation ours are in? AP has a great chance of starting there

They have drafted a couple running backs high in the draft but they are suffering from lingering injuries

Doubt he reaches that total this season.

Not sure why they specified that he needed to get 1054 yards "in a Lions uniform" to pass Barry Sanders, since this if the all-time list, and not the team list.

Realistically, he could get part of it this year, and the remainder next year, in a different uniform, and still pass Barry Sanders.

But that would be really special for Detroit, if he passes Barry Sanders playing for the Lions at home.

This is the best possible news IMO. It means we are going to ride Gibson and he is ready. Dudes 6' 230lbs and runs a 4.39 40. Can get between the tackles and is a WR quality pass catcher.

This is so bad ass and exciting.

I think it also shows how much we over rate some of the little things like pass blocking. Dudes a lot faster than CMC and is now getting that role. Gibson is going to be a monster.

I sure hope so.  I drafted Gibson late in my keeper round so hoping for a real gem here for multiple reasons.

I suspect you are correct. At least worse in the running game. I was hoping they would keep him a couple of more years just so he could break the RB record as a Redskin. But this was probably the best decision long term.

That sucks. I hope he doesn't do that. He should get within a few yards and pull up and have some class, like Barry did.

How does it make someone more classy to intentionally play bad for a team that signed you to play well?

Sanders could have won the rushing title one year, but because they were winning the game and heading to the playoffs, decided to sit to be safe for his team. That's classy.

I don't like AP the person and It won't feel good to see him take Barrys spot in a lions uniform. I don't want that record to have a Lion ahead of Sanders on the all time list. I think that sucks.

If he is obviously needed to get those yards, then whatever. Get them. If it's a lost season and they just start running him so he can break the record, that sucks.

He should get within a few yards and be done. Go to the Vikings for a game, get his final yards and retire. That's how I'd like to see it.

If Peterson is still capable of playing at an NFL level I don't see why he shouldn't keep playing to beat him out. When Peterson retires his record will say Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings. He won't be recognized as a Detroit Lion, just like Emmitt Smith isn't recognized as a Cardinal.

He was sign to play RB. He gives it his all. If he happens to pass Barry while he’s a lion, so be it.

That actually might be the only highlight in Detroit this year. Patricia sucks as a head coach; Lions aren’t doing jack this year.

Uh.

They arguably have better backs than us. Just dinged up.

Adrian Peterson
Kerryon Johnson

Bo Scarborough

D’Andre Swift (R)

Swift is the crown jewel there.

The "crown jewel" dropped the game-winning TD pass yesterday with six seconds left. Peterson is their best back. WFT done messed up cutting him. Is anyone on this board happy that Peyton Barber took his roster spot?

I guess it could be that AP is a primary back and has not shown consistently as a COP guy or a specialist. 7 of Barber's carries came in the dagger drive where a FG makes a 2 score game and a TO would have been what Philly needed (you probably can play conservative as long as you don't give the game away  because our defense was playing ears back at that point) while on the last 'drive', our main goal was to kill as much clock as possible). He also had a run where his max-yards was 1.

I don’t know, after seeing Barbers role in the game I’m left even more perplexed by the move. AP would’ve made the offense much more dynamic yesterday. I appreciate Barbers hard running and see he has ability, but nothing close to what AP provides.
