Ah yes, the thread that nobody wants to admit to.

I keep a tab open at work, but I'm thinking of cutting back or stopping for a while so I can run these Linux+ videos instead my job is paying for, even instead of listening to music. I sit in a corner of an open office and when I stand up I can see as many as half of the computers with one of their screens on facebook or some news site.  I said I'd never have my whole screen on facebook like that, or running yahoo messenger on my computer. I have too much to do, I need to share that space with other things.

When I was in college, I wouldn't during a lecture, but I would during labs (If I got an hour to do it and I'm already done, its between that and homework most of the time).  I specifically remember commenting in the stadium about how I was in class during that Michael Vick MNF football massacre against us that I thought the ESPN gamecast was broken or having an error.  But I wasn't getting into debate with ya'll while I was on campus.  In fact, I remember what feels like a gap in my post history during my associates. That was the least I had posted since made my account back in 2003.

In high school, I can't remember too many classes where the computers were pointed in a way that I could get away with it.  I didn't have a laptop and my cell phone had a Linkin Park ring tone that sounded like an arcade or early Nintendo game.

Oh, and checking when taking a dump doesn't count, that's like checking your text messages during a cigarette break.  This poll is private, so you don't have to worry about boss seeing this if they a username, too.

Yeah, I do.  I think most of us probably do.  And those that don't probably only have it blocked.

It's not one of the reasons that I left my last job, but the guy I was working for would make a snide little comment if he was walking around and saw you had your screen on something not work related.  "Hey, whatcha looking at there?" Hey, try judging my production.  How much revenue did my work bring in last month?

Not one of the reasons I left but certainly didn't make me want to stay.

Ya, I'd expect anyone that is doing manual labor or doesn't have a work desk are going to say no.  I believe a lot of us who probably can probably do.

First job for me were I can have ES open and nobody know about it, so I do. Sometimes I'll take stuff I see in here and post it in the "Random" slack channel my job has.

Yes, pretty much every day, but I don't think it affects my work. I spend time looking here while watching wheels spin, progress bars filling up, and various other stuff that doesn't require me constantly interacting. I could probably do more learning/self improvement stuff, but I have a hard time focusing on nothing but IT every minute of the day. If I'm not out and away from my desk doing work, this site is almost always open in a tab. It's not even that time consuming to catch up in threads now that there isn't as much traffic as there used to be. I've never really posted much anyway. That's the biggest time-suck for me. I also don't really poke into every thread. I just try to keep up with and contribute, or try to anyway, in the ones that draw my interest the most. Also, bad jokes...I like to try to sprinkle those in every once in a while. Sorry for those, past and future.

I'm the oldest on the staff, and it's usually me complaining about the younger kids being on their phones, so I try to set the example by staying focused on the job.  I try to limit it to before we open, and after all my guests have left & I'm rolling silverware at the end of my shift.

When I joined in 2012, it wasn't long until I started working from home, but I never brought up this forum, or any forums/most websites on my work computer as they monitor everything.  I'd just close my office door and bring it up on my phone.  Even before then, I never brought up any message boards and would only look at major news/sports websites like CNN, USA Today, Washington Post, ESPN.  Then I got into management and found out they actually log every site every employee visits and even have monthly reports.  So I stopped all together and went strictly phone.

Now at home, since my personal computer is on a desk behind my work computer in my office, I jump on there through out the day to read and post some.

I pretty much never close the Tab. I do know for a fact that they monitor our machines here (used to be IT) but the CEO also makes a point to let us have our distractions as they tend to help us think or de-stress.

My job currently is 80% reactionary, and to be honest it bores me. Thats why you see me on here all days some days and not at all on others. It just depends on the work flow. In about a month we are going to be doing some very important and costly projects that are going to require my full attention and then once things settle down from there I will be looking for another job in IT (where I will probably be monitored like here, and the company may not be so forgiving) so I may not be around as much.

The real question is which one of you is watching porn at work?

loz, that can wait, seriously.

Surprised nobody mentioned when they were in college (I wasn't just talking about right now).

My job doesn't track URL traffic like some of ya'll do (thought I still watch what I say in the message applications we use because I can see the logs for one of them).  Typical gun and sports threads on top in tailgate, so that can wait until I get out of here.

Edit:  This pretty much confirms my suspicion that this is normal
