skinsmarydu
I voted for him in primary 16. I still think we need massive change, but any true Democrat that will protect my choices & my DUTY to vote will have to do for now. I'm Joe's girl for the next 4. 😉
PleaseBlitz
This article basically sums up my feelings. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/08/sanders-is-out-insincere-praise-begins/ Quote As for winning over his followers, consider a recent pollshowing that about 15 percent of Sanders’s supporters intend to vote for Trump if Biden is the nominee. It is hard to fathom the mindset of someone who would prefer an unfit narcissist who opposes virtually every principle and value Democrats hold dear to Obama’s vice president. It is of a piece with those who preferred Jill Stein in 2016. There is no reaching such people. Soliciting them is a waste of time. The rest of the Sanders coalition should not need much courting. They’ve already signaled they will line up behind Biden and have expressed their determination to oust Trump. Other than not gratuitously attacking them, no great effort should be required to keep them in the fold. (Ironically, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has been far more successful in advancing progressive policy ideas with Biden, including her plans on student debt forgiveness and bankruptcy.) There are far bigger challenges for Biden than securing former Sanders voters. He must defeat Republican attempts to suppress the vote (including the GOP’s opposition to voting by mail, which forces voters to choose between their right to vote and risking their lives by voting in person during a pandemic). He must hold Trump to account for his grotesque negligence in responding to the coronavirus, the greatest failure in presidential leadership, and for his stomach-turning corruption. And he must underscore the fundamental difference in values between the parties: Democrats are defenders of the little guy and of reforms that increase their pay, protect their health care and keep them safe. That’s a tall order, which makes it all the more urgent that Biden not be sidetracked by Bernie Bros’ hurt feelings. There is an election to be won and a country to be saved. Destino
It’s really not that hard to understand why socialists would support Trump. They want socialism in the US. There are two paths p, in their mind, to getting there as quickly as possible. 1- elect a socialist. 2- increased disillusionment among the American workers increasing support for socialism in America. Biden doesn’t accomplish either of those. Don't confuse socialists with democrats. There is some overlap, but they are not the same,
Llevron
Getting Trump out of office is legitimately a matter of survival at this point. Its shouldn't need to be framed any other way for most of the country to get it.

This is exactly what some folks are saying they will do, try to get Trump elected to give better chance for people being angry enough to vote for the next Bernie in 2024. You're better off jumping off a bridge to try and flatten your stomach, those people are not reachable, even by Bernie. Just now, The Evil Genius said: So what you are saying is, like the MAGAssholes, Bernie socialists only care about themselves. Bernie supporters and socialist are too different things that happen to overlap. For example, I have a close family member that supports Bernies platform way before he ran in 2016, but wouldnt vote for him because he ran as a Democrat. True socialist we're around before this and will be around after. I voted for Bernie because I felt his platform was closer to my views then the other candidates. That doesn't make me a socialist. Some of these folks voting for Bernie don't know what socialism is, they just either want a better social welfare program or want to see the world burn for the most part. The mentality of the hard core progressives is they'd rather burn the building down than fix it, because if they burn the building down, maybe they get to build the new one. But it never works that way. Joe Klein had a good piece a while back about how this played out in the '68 election.

I’d say it’s less that they only think of themselves and more that they view anyone that isn’t a socialist as their political opponents. Some socialists are a different breed, which will become abundantly clear as socialism grows in popularity in the US. You’ll quickly find that not all of them are the kinder gentler “democratic socialists” which are usually just progressive capitalists that favor larger social programs. 54 minutes ago, visionary said: That’s ok, socialists all eventually drop the “democratic” part. Fresh8686
Some of the best times to find out who people really are is right after they've lost out on getting what they wanted. Destino
I just realized Briahna Gray is/was Bernie’s National Press Secretary. Its stunning that someone that high up in the Bernie campaign would make that particular statement about her brand of socialism.

Considering most of Bernie's high profile non-elected surrogates, it's unfortunately not that surprising at all. Also I wonder how many of his people worked for The Intercept.
