Presidential Election: 11/3/20 ---Now the President Elect Joe Biden Thread

I've said I don't think the Mueller report and Impeachment, should that happen; really changes the needle on the Presidential Election.  Those supporting Trump are still voting for him. Those against Trump, are voting against him.  Those people who didn't vote in 2016 but did before that or people who never vote; aren't really going to be motivated to come out and vote because of the Mueller report or if it happens, impeachment.

There is a possibility that impeachment does affect the Presidential race after all.  While impeachment really doesn't move the needle for the general election; it is possible impeachment changes the entire calculus of the Democratic primary.  I think every candidate running will probably support impeachment, if it happens. PocaLizzy has already called for it.  Think Mayor Pete has said go for it also.  Trump is going use that impeachment. See the Dems tried to undo the 2016 election with the fake Russia probe.  They just impeached me, trying to remove your president from office.  Vote for me, to prevent those treason traitors from taking your presidency. The Dem candidate is going to have to effectively defend why Trump was impeached and show why that was the right course of action. They are going to show why, Trump must be defeated.  Trump is going to use that to beat the Dems to death. He's going to try to make that the entire focus of the campaign, along with the socialism angle.

Out of the main contenders- Bernie, Pete, Beto, Joe, Kamala and Elizabeth; which one is the best to do that? I don't see anyone else as a legit contender.

I think Bernie, Joe and Kamala can.  He's already made Elizabeth look like a fool, so I think, she would just be ignored.   I'm not sure Pete can.  I think this definitely rules out fluffy Beto.

While I feel this country will not vote in a Socialist, Bernie; Bernie definitely can contrast Trump on the corruption angle.  I think Kamala's expereince as CA attorney general helps her.  I think Joe is one who can credibly hit Trump back.  That 8 years of being Vice PResident, helps him. What hurts him, is that he's not really in tune with the Dems today and his past haunts him.

The first step in addressing this crisis is to deal head-on with the outstanding debt that is weighing down millions of families and should never have been required in the first place. That’s why I’m calling for something truly transformational — the cancellation of up to $50,000 in student loan debt for 42 million Americans.

Obviously as someone who paid their debt (and is thankful for the folks chipping in to pay that last 10k off), I know the albatross that it places on you. I was all for the forgiveness with 10 yrs of public service (and continued payment during that 10yrs). That said...I'm not sure I like Warren's call for the cancellation of student debt without some type of trade off. It's not a deal breaker...just not something I'd prefer.

They're not new or novel either. Other candidates hint hint wrote about it in their book and discussed it in detail on podcasts and talk shows.

This race is still way too crowded to make any decisive decision. First you hear about how it's Harris as the nominee even though she again hasn't really had a platform. The only people speaking up are Warren, Sanders, and Yang and the first two just borrow ideas that the third has been saying now for over a year 😂

Honestly im cool with that though. If her part in this is to get these ideas out there and have the votes eat it up only for the candidates to adopt them then im fine with that. Thats not what I want, but ill accept it.

Gotta admit, Warren is saying the things that need to be said.

I think Warren hands down has the beast plans for the Country as a whole.  I doubt she could ever muster enough votes to become President.  I hate to say it but in a general election personality matters. Her personality is underwhelming.  It's a shame it's that way, but you ignore reality at your own peril.

Care to elaborate?

Yeah there’s a **** ton of us that paid our bills or paid outright for school that get nothing while all these other people get their debts forgiven.

I’d also like to see where she draws boundaries for free school cause the last one to release something like this excluded my family from this thing that’s supposedly so important.

But it doesn’t matter because I’m not voting for anyone who wants to give money away to people because they took out loans and tell the rest of us “too bad .”

It makes me so mad I could see myself voting for trump over it. We’ll see.

He’s still in Repub Rehab. Baby steps.

I don’t believe I’ve voted for a republican since McCain in 08.

I may have voted for Vogel in 2016. I honestly can’t remember. I liked her.

So righting a wrong or injustice isn't the way to go because you can't retroactively go back and fix everyone else that suffered previously from this wrong/injustice?

I guess we should never make progress if that's the logic. Why fix healthcare when some people have been putting up with **** healthcare for 50+ years. Who is going to pay them their premiums back when we go to a universal system?

Some people took out loans

others gave up vacations, cars, houses, or worked full time through school.

You're rewarding one group and telling the other to **** off.

So, right back at you.

I support lots of ideas for bettering the education system.

Giving people free money because they signed up for loans they didn't understand while telling the rest of us 'too bad' is not one of them.

If you were going to a universal system then arbitrarily picking a % of the population you were then going to pay back some of their expenses then yeah, you'll probably get some of the same pushback.

because this isn't just going to a universal system. it's going to a universal system plus paying a certain % of the population back.

I'm sure the people who signed up for loans and still haven't paid them off will be thrilled. They're the same people that tell me too bad. So i'll happily vote against them. Maybe one day they'll figure out that those of us that didn't take loans still had to come up with the money from somewhere.
