Skinsinparadise
Greg Lewis https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2022/05/06/kansas-city-chiefs-mike-burton-second-season-greg-lewis-running-backs-coach/ Prior to his time in Kansas City, Lewis had spent eight seasons as a receiver in the NFL, three seasons as a wide receivers coach in college football, a season as an assistant receivers coach in New Orleans, and one season coaching receiver in Philadelphia. He’d never once coached running backs before. Chiefs FB Mike Burton was also new to the running back room in Kansas City last season. He says that working with Lewis has been great, and whether he’s coaching receivers or running backs or any other position, he’s incredibly capable. “It has been an awesome experience being with Coach Greg Lewis,” Burton told Chiefs Wire in an exclusive interview. “He is a football coach. I am a firm believer that he could coach any position, offense or defense. He’s an extremely intelligent guy, a hard worker.” Andy Reid explained the switch from receivers to running backs as Coach Lewis looking for a new challenge. Well, he certainly had a challenging year in his first coaching the running back position. His starting running back, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, dealt with a serious illness in the offseason and injuries during the season. His second- and third-string backs, Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon, also dealt with injuries during the course of the year. Lewis attacked those challenges head-on and his own unique coaching style really helped keep the group afloat all season long. “He puts in the work to understand it, not only within himself, but he puts in the work to be able to communicate it to the players so that we understand it better,” Burton explained. “I think that’s one of his strengths, that he makes it very easy for us to understand. Whether it’s the run game, the pass game, the protection game – all of that stuff is communicated extremely well from Greg to us. It allows us to then go play fast, which makes our group better.” Lewis attacked those challenges head-on and his own unique coaching style really helped keep the group afloat all season long. “He puts in the work to understand it, not only within himself, but he puts in the work to be able to communicate it to the players so that we understand it better,” Burton explained. “I think that’s one of his strengths, that he makes it very easy for us to understand. That already gives him a bit of an advantage when it comes to communicating. “He was a player himself,” Burton said. “So, he has that side of him that he can bring to us and (use) to help us. He’s been in our shoes before, which is just another addition that makes him such a great coach too. I can’t speak highly enough about him. It has been an unbelievable experience playing for him thus far.” As players have returned to Kansas City for the offseason workout program, there is an air of excitement in the building, but especially in Lewis’ running back room. He has a full season of experience coaching the position group under his belt, plus some new faces in the room. Burton anticipates that the Chiefs fans will be very pleased with the results on the field under Lewis in his second season as running backs coach. He’s quite excited to see it all come together himself. Edited February 22, 2023 by Skinsinparadise

He’s quite excited to see it all come together himself. The guy made it in the league as a UDFA. Before that, he was a walk on at Illinois. That should tell you about his character, intelligence and work ethic. It makes all the sense in the world for him to come here vs stay in KC. Here, he is EB’s #2 and has a path to a OC job. In KC, he’s blocked by Nagy and I bet Nagy’s buddy who is a QC guy (forget his name) gets the QB coach job

It’s kind of gone out of fashion but yelling at the right time makes a big impact. The UCLA basketball coach is a big yeller too. I’m all for it. That’s good to know about EB. He always looks happy but I guess he’s not. I like him more now!

RWJ
I think at the Press Conference they have for EB tomorrow it will be announced that Greg Lewis is joining his O staff. Just a hunch. He's a multitasker and smart guy that is very close to EB and hold players accountable too. I'm hoping he is hired and is part of EB's staff. Skinsinparadise
I listened to it, got me fired up. Brian Mitchell just said hey he's not an easy sell but listening to that he is willing to strap on a uniform and play now 1 2
RabidFan
Heard that from B Mitch too, good stuff. Man the audio was turrible but heard a bunch. Surprised I didn't hear a question about his filling the staff openings on the Offensive side of the coaches.
Llevron
It is hard to understand claims that he's bad at interviews listening to him. Its clear that communication is one of his strengths.

88Comrade2000
Why isn’t he a head coach? Despite the choppy audio, he had me fired up. Fire Ron now and make him the head coach.

One of his themes was him talking about it being a relationship business and how far he went back with Ron among others. Ron's relationship with Reid and Bieniemy is likely a big reason why he's here. I know some you including doesn't care for Ron. But if Bieniemy works out, Ron deserves IMO some credit Edited February 23, 2023 by Skinsinparadise 6 1

CapsSkins
Can anyone do a wellness check on @88Comrade2000 after Bieniemy gushed about Rivera and how Ron is the foremost reason he took the job? Poor guy must have had a stroke hearing that. 14

Califan007 The Constipated
Bieniemy: "Comfort is the enemy of progress." This echoes what I said about Rivera seeming to place his comfort level with the people he brought on board over finding the most qualified candidates even if he’s never worked with them before. 6
