GamePass runs out for me at the beginning of next month, trying to see what games I want to keep and which ones I want to let go (you get a discount if you buy a game thats on GamePass while you have a sub).

I like Greedfall, but its your typical AA action RPG. Its not a bad game, it just doesn't do anything particularly new and what it does do isn't very deep. Its like most of Spyder's games, if you're familiar with that company.

Nier: Automata was another I wanted to enjoy, but the first boss killed me (the game gives you no inclination on how to kill the thing) and when you die, you have to start all the way back the beginning. You have to spend at atleast 30 minutes basically doing the tutorial over again. I turned the game off and haven't played it since, was thinking about trying it again now that some time has passed.

So I played Control, liked it, but put it down months ago and just tried to pick it up again. I left off right before the first boss fight and I can't beat him to save my life. Did I forget something? Am I just too rusty? Anyways, everytime I die, I lose XP (I guess you can call it that) and its very frustrating seeing as how its the first boss. I can't decide if I should start over or just give up on the game all together.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is an awesome game...when it works. Its load times are terrible, the slowdown can't be explained for a game with so little detail on such a powerful system and the glitches can make the game unplayable sometimes. I tried to play again last night after quitting because of glitches and they ruined my experience again. Really like the game, but this was a poor showing by Obsidian and this game shouldn't be played on consoles.

Edit: I bought Dishonored 2 DLC ( I never buy DLC), because I loved the game so much. Arkane Studios is one of my favorite developers, so even though I haven't finished the main game for Prey, I bought the DLC on sale. Heard it was actually better than the main game...we'll see about that.

Paging @PokerPacker

What's your budget?  You'd be almost harder pressed to find a desktop PC on the market that can't run fortnite at low settings.  Although I assume your child isn't too concerned with getting competitive FPS at higher settings, if that's the, goal nvidia 1650 super or AMD 5500 should be plenty too.

I feel like the sweet spot right now is 1000-1500 range in terms of performance vs. value, but that's probably overkill for a 8.5 year old (unless you plan on gaming on it too).  Depending on the type of games your child is interested in and the quality of display you're using, you could probably go 600-800 range for 1600 super series.  If you're looking to get it for Christmas, finding a good configuration in stocks might be bit of a challenge.

Thanks!

Had this one recommended: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-master-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-5-3600-8gb-memory-amd-radeon-rx-6600-xt-500gb-ssd-black/6481360.p?skuId=6481360

Will probably avoid the cheaper route in talking to the guy who recommended the above just because it'll allow him to grow into it as he gets older.  Right now he's into Rocket League, Fortnite, and a little Roblox and Minecraft but more the former 2

The problem right now is the cost of video cards are ridiculous so you're going to be paying a huge premium if you get one right now.

If you can hold off a bit I'd get a Switch for an 8.5 year old and he can play Fortnite on that, and then in a couple years when (hopefully) costs are back to normal and he's a bit older wanting to expand into other shooters then look into a gaming PC.

yeah he's got a switch that he's been doing fortnite on for the last couple years.  he says he wants more of a challenge 😂 but also there's other some other games that are just PC that he wants to start diving in on too.

this was the worst part of the game. It makes no sense why it’s so difficult and you have to replay that whole sequence. The game is really great tho once you get past it. Thought provoking and beautiful, rewarding multiple play-throughs as each time you go through the game from a difference character’s perspective and see more of the story.

I'm willing to try again, I liked the first game, even though I didn't finish it.

I've been hooked on Pathfinder: Kingmaker but man you really gotta do your research, the game doesn't explain much and there are mechanics you can easily overlook.

What are you playing on? I really wanted this game, but its unplayable on XB or PS. I'm assuming you're on a PC?

Just finished The Last of Us, what a ****ing story and game. Have never seen a game take such simple design decisions but create such a rich and tense world around it. The ending leaves you feeling so many things, can’t wait to see what’s coming in the second game.

Oh man you are in for a treat...

When I was reading your post I initially thought "wonder if he is talking about part 2 or 1" then you clarified.

You are in for a rollercoaster of emotions with part 2.  I loved everything about that game.  It's definitely the best PS4 game IMO.

The only thing I wished was that TLOU part 1 was fresher in my mind because I only played TLOU one time and it was at launch.  I remembered the overall general idea/story but definitely not the details.

It’s been interesting playing TLOU during a raging pandemic. With the ending I was so conflicted:

Spoiler

Is it ethical killing one child to produce a vaccine that saves humanity and gives people a fighting chance to restore civilization? Or is it unethical but still the morally right choice given how much suffering people are going through?

And then you see it from Joel’s perspective that this little girl really saw him as her protector after being repeatedly let down by others. Who is he obligated to protect? And then he lies to her at the end and that is a whole another can of worms. Even If Ellie is ok with sacrificing herself for the greater good, is a child’s consent with such choices even legitimate?

I’m doing the mini DLC now but can’t wait to start the 2nd one. Have to wait after holidays into next year though which is going to kill me lol.

After reading your spoilers, I'm now even more interested in what you have to say about part 2 once you play through it.

If you think you were conflicted in your feelings in part 1, just wait until you play part 2.

I haven't played it in weeks.  Nor have I played the new CoD even longer, I keep reading it got hacked and is unplayable.

I only play Warzone for cod. I like the new map and the anti cheat seems to be working.

i thought Wz was buggy but nope BF2042 is another level. Really frustrating the game is unplayable. There isn’t even cross platform communication. Like why would you release the game in that state.

Because the suits are in charge of all that **** and is why we have so many incomplete games at their launch.

Halo infinite was awesome. So much fun. The sandbox is pure action porn, best in the series. The story was simplistic but did what it needed to do smoothing over Halo 5’s story which most people hated while introducing new villains and mystery to set the series up with fresh start moving forward. It hit some emotional beats that worked well and the dynamic between Chief, the weapon, and the pilot was excellent, working as group thrust together that becomes a sort of family.

i could have done with a little less mystery and more concrete stuff but they are definitely setting up some big stuff in future expansions on different parts of this ring

Finished GoT and fired up Miles Morales on the new PS5. Gonna find a Brooklyn orphanage, web up some children and hurl them into the East River.

man I been playing for weeks and just got to the north part of the map. Guess it drags out when you stop to take a picture every 5 steps and during every battle plus having to get every flower in the game so Jin can just drop swagoo on those mongols in the best and most colorful outfits
