They've been doing the dog whistles for a long time. Now in the times of Trump it isn't so much dog whistles as it is full on bullhorns. They don't really even bother to be subtle or sneaky about it anymore because they know there are pretty much no repercussions for it as Trump has shown them. If they were to keep the House and Trump were to win reelection I honestly don't think it would be all that long before they were openly using racist slurs and normalizing it.
