Reagan cut tax rates, but with Dem support from Bill Bradley and Rostenkowski, also slashed deductions for the rich, and produced an economic boom with tax receipts doubling from 1980 to 1990. George HW Bush raised taxes (adjusted for inflation, his tax hike was bigger than Clinton's), and had the worst record of economic growth since Herbert Hoover. Obama, the supposed "big government socialist" (if one were to listen to angry brain dead blowhards like Hannity), only increased spending by 1% a year - the slowest rate of increase in the post-war era. By contrast, W increased spending by over 7.5%/year - the most since FDR. Likewise Trump spends like a drunken sailor, and has passed crippling tax increases on consumers and businesses with his ill conceived tariffs. We are headed for a brutal economic setback thanks to corrosive Trump GOP policies, but trade and short-sighted environmental protection reversals, along with an unhealthy dose of corporate and agricultural welfare enabled by kleptocratic appointees will be the primary causes.
