The Bowling Green incident wasn't a hoax, as much as a person was confused by what they saw.

But they falsely claimed it was racism.

And going forward, the ADL found a bunch more than 17 16 15 incidents of hate speech in 2017 on college campuses.

Hate Speech?   there is no such thing. Poor wittle snow flakes gonna get offended?

The ADL is an extremist left wingnut socialist organization, you should vet your sources better. It was their own "study"...

I could go on all day...  so as to the original poster's question: Yes, racism has gotten worst since Trump was elected in 2016.

Someone was punished for it, but most schools aren’t allowed to make that information publicaly available due to federal laws. There was an article in the UMD student paper asking what happened as well.

i think we are reading different things in the MD update story. there was a 'person of interest' referred for 'disciplinary review'. that means this person may have something to do with it, maybe not. who knows? i just see that as very vague. i'm surprised that there isn't any follow up to this story. wouldnt we know if there was something? shouldn't we know? if there were any criminal charges, that would be public information, so it seems there werent any charges.

i'm not sure what hinges on this particular case- either it was a hate crime, a hoax, or whatever. its true there are hate crimes, its true there are hoaxes. how many of each there are is topic worth pursuing, i think. but it's also tough to determine what cases are legitimate hate crimes- as we can see from the hoaxes, there are often incentives to lie. alot of organizations that purport to track hate crimes even have incentives to exaggerate (or lie). alot of these places rely on self reported hate crime statistics. the ADL had a problem with the FBI stats on hate crimes a few years ago. who had the right answer? i really don't know.

it should go without saying that hate crimes are horrible and i hope any legitimate hate crimes are prosecuted.

Lynn Redden, the Onalaska ISD Superintendent, posted his criticism on the Houston Chronicle Facebook page after the Texans’ loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, according to the newspaper. Redden referenced the last play of the game in which Watson held onto the ball in the final seconds.

“That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I've seen in the NFL,” he said of the former Clemson star. “When you need precision decision making you can't count on a black quarterback.”

Redden told the Houston Chronicle he deleted the comment after he realized it was a public post.

“I totally regret it,” Redden told the newspaper.

He said he could see how people would interpret his comment as racist, but he said he was talking about the lack of statistical success of black quarterbacks in the NFL.

Go **** yourself Redden for 2 reasons. 1 - you would have left it up if it was a private message? I can only imagine the racist **** you say in private, you coward low life piece of **** human being. 2 - the old "sorry you interpreted it wrong" defense. Right .. its us normal non-racist people's ability not to interpret things correctly. Thats the problem. Not the fact that you think black people are intellectually inferior to white people.

A Texas school superintendent has resigned after he made a racial comment toward former Clemson University quarterback Deshaun Watson, a local news outlet confirmed Saturday.

The Onalaska Independent School District's Board of Trustees accepted Lynn Redden's letter of resignation after a special meeting held Saturday morning, according to ABC 13 in Houston.

Redden's job as Onalaska's superintendent came under fire after he posted a comment on the Houston Chronicle's Facebook page stating, "You can't count on a black quarterback" in reference to Deshaun Watson earlier this week.

The school board had issued a statement after the comment was made.

"The OISD does not condone negative comments or actions toward any race," the statement reads. "The District values every individual and therefore the District will take the appropriate measures to address the situation expeditiously and completely."

Calls to the school district's administration were not immediately returned.

Hate crime charges filed in fight at Florida bar that began with 'Africa Day' remark

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A man who harassed an interracial couple at a bar on Mother's Day is facing a hate crime charge for the fight he started, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, who is black, was having drinks at Tailgatorz Sports Bar & Grill on Mother's Day with his wife, who is white, when Warren Stratton approached and asked the man if he was from Africa and whether it was "Africa Day," the report said.

Deputies said Stratton continued staring at the couple and making racial comments then said he was, "just looking for a piece of (expletive)," in reference to the victim's wife.

The victim stood up and told Warren to move along. The argument turned physical when Stratton pushed the victim, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said two bar patrons tried to separate the fight but two of Stratton's family members, 20-year-old John Noe and 52-year-old Troy Noe, jumped in and began throwing punches at the victims.

"There's a terrible fight and there's one African-American that's being beat to a pulp -- and no one is here to defend him -- by a bunch of rednecks," a witness said in a 911 call.

Once the fight was broken up, Troy Noe and Warren were heard calling the victim a racial slur and making racially-motivated comments about the victim's wife, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said surveillance footage from the bar showed that the victim and his wife were minding their business at the bar when Warren began instigating and his two relatives jumped in when the fight turned physical.

Woman forced to watch 'Roots' to 'understand her racism,' Cedar Rapids police say

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man who was arrested Monday is accused of holding a woman captive and forcing her to watch “Roots” — a nine-hour miniseries that chronicles author Alex Haley’s family line from the capture and enslavement of his ancestor Kunta Kinte to the liberation of Kinte’s descendants.

Robert Lee Noye, 52, forced the woman to sit with him, at a residence in the 700 block of Second Avenue SW and watch the series “so she could better understand her racism,” according to a criminal complaint.

When she tried to move, Noye told her to “remain seated and watch the movie with him or he would kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago,” the complaint said.

OU student protest calls for provost resignation, new multicultural center and Popeyes on campus

Following two controversial incidents of professors using a racial slur while teaching, dozens of University of Oklahoma students staged a sit-in Wednesday outside the OU’s president’s office.

Organized by the Black Emergency Response Team, students sat outside of interim President Joseph Harroz’s office with signs demanding action and calling for the resignation of OU Provost Kyle Harper.

One of the signs said “‘Sorry’ does not undo years of historical trauma.”

Demands from the group also include a semester-long class focused on diversity, and a new multicultural center that will feature meeting spaces for marginalized students, common areas, study rooms and a Popeyes restaurant.

Students said they will be sitting at Evans Hall until their demands are met. The Black Emergency Response Team said many members would go on a hunger strike.

Cant deny that im thinking about that street I used to live on in Germantown that was full of racially prejudiced Koreans. Never seen that before in my life. It was weird, and frustrating.

I think many of them need a harsh reminder of where they are. Racist dickheads in America is one thing you can never be immune from
