Per Schefter: Su'a Cravens Considering Retirement

Conn

Recommended Posts

Makes you wonder if the pick of Montae Nicholson met a need more than initially thought by the fanbase.

We knew nothing of his actions at USC or that he went AWOL for a day last year after the biceps injury until all this went down this season. Would make a ton of sense if the Skins drafted Nicholson, found room for McClure on the 53, and kept a developmental guy in Fish on the PS all for insurance because they knew of the possibility that Cravens could be unavailable at some point. Be it due to his immaturity, injuries, or both. Im sure they didnt anticipate it happening the first week of the season though. Luckily Swearingers presence back there and Nicholson appearing to be a quick study has softened the blow quite a bit... At least so far.

Hope he never comes back. What a bum. Go try to bang Mia Khalifa again.

As if thats an impressive feat.

Theyre actually a perfect pairing. Shes so delusional that she thinks she can parlay her pornstar fame with her sports fandom and become the next Erin Andrews. As for Su'a, we arent sure exactly what his backup plan is yet but typically you have to have done something or play for more than a season to get a talking-head job on CSN or NFLN.

And I'd be willing to bet Santana Moss isnt going to want to sit and talk Redskins with a quitter. His only shot is with USC coverage.

He reminds me of the high school jock that still talks about the glory days at 30 years old whenever you see him. He probably got more excited to watch the USC game last weekend than he ever did to play on Sundays in the B&G.

Dude is the typical kid now days. First off I'm not a fan of this team. Fan is short for fanatic and the only things I'm fanatical over are God, Family, and real friends. Now I love this team and there's players past and present that have earned my respect on it through many years of demonstrating performance and integrity. This kid was basically a first year backup oviously drafted too early that quit on his team at the worst possible time. So so performance zero integrity and people are supposed to put him on the level of God and family for this?! He dosent deserve notice or respect much less fanaticalism. Boggles the mind! We got his rights. Let him retire if he wants... see what that does for his narcissistic mentality or he can come back next year and compete for a backup spot and give it a shot at climbing the rungs like a real man. I love feel good stories where people turn their life around but it's hard to see happening in this case. "First" man up in this case. And those men did decent last week.

He's not on the roster. Close the thread. I'm sick of seeing his name in The Stadium. Move it to Around the NFL.

Block his Tweets from Redskin homepage tweet tracker.

This Millenial needs to be restricted from attempting to cause any distractions.

Don't need this garbage anywhere near this team.

1. Discussion of Scot McCloughan didnt leave the message board when he was no longer with the team, ironically it actually didnt die down until this crap with Su'a went down and fan sentiment towards him took a sharp turn into the gutter. We will likely have to suffer through a few more weeks of this topic garnering attention in the media and therefore, on ES.

2. There is a Redskins homepage tweet tracker? How is it? Is it players accounts only? Ive always followed tweets via the bleacher report app and the ES twitter thread...

Speaking of Twitter, I wonder with his season over if he becomes outspoken and highly active on social media on gamedays talking about the defense/team. That will get annoying fast. If he has any sense he will steer clear of making any comments about the Redskins if he cares about ever playing for us again.

Nobody is putting a football player, any football player, on the level of God and family.  Come on now.

Sorry man I don't even want to be in this thread because it's pathetic.

The tweet tracker is on Redskins.com scroll down to Social window.  Constantly filled with tweets about this kid. Totally annoying.

HOWEVER,,,,I've heard that he left because of a disagreement with the training staff.  He doesn't believe he's healed yet and is afraid he'll lose his vision with another hit. So...retire. The End.

This is going to come off as kind of dickish and I'm not trying to be but you do remember what this place was like when Sean was killed, right?

I haven't read anything about that but if that is legitimately the reason he wants to retire then come out and say it. I think the response here wouldn't be near as vitriolic if he had come out like Chris Borland and said I got to live out a dream but in the end my quality of life is worth more than money to me. I know I wouldn't have any problems with that.

But yes he did quit on his team when they needed to count on him. You hear all the time how these guys call each other brothers so yes that does have a huge effect on the guys in the locker room. Keim even tweeted that Cravens' teammates and coaches don't feel that they can trust him after they way he up and left and that there are plenty of bridges that need mending. The regular season is probably not the time for that.

And I agree that this thread has gotten a little crazy with the responses from both sides, but I can see both points of view. It's both a big deal but not the end of the world. Yes it's a 2nd round pick and those guys are generally drafted with the belief that they will be solid starters if nothing else, however at the end of the day it's not like the rg3 trade where we mortgaged our future for a guy who walked away. That would totally **** the team over.

I can even see the point about this being unfair to a guy who lost a job because of this. I think a good example to illustrate this is to look at a golf tournament. There's a guy who played in the qualifying tournament and would have been the last guy in the field but he ends up being first alternate to a guy who gets a sponsor's exemption. If the guy playing on the sponsor's exemption doesn't have his heart in it and is just there to collect a check he is taking away an opportunity from a guy who worked his ass off and probably needs that opportunity to compete, support his family, and potentially earn his tour card.

So I get it. Hell when I was younger I probably would have been waaaaaay more bent out of shape about this. Call it getting old or just my fan apathy setting in? Maybe little column a, little column b :rofl89:

Sorry for the war and peace post lol. These are just thoughts I've had as I've been reading thru the thread.

If the kid wants to retire fine but did his quitting after training camp cost someone else a job? Could we have kept someone it Sue retired earlier? Does he have to return any money? As far as going blind from football I don't think I ever heard of that happening to any pro player but I guess anything can happen. Guess signing a contract means nothing anymore but like Mike T once said "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face."

So his agent is now saying he wants to return. Said he was dealing with personal issues last fall.  My first reaction was we saw this a mile away, once the money runs out he will come crawling back. And there have been thousands of players who have had to deal with personal issues, they didn't up and quit.

But we really don't know what those issues were so maybe that's not totally fair.  I just find it impossible to inject the love of the game into the heart of a man who clearly doesn't have it. If you thought the team quit in San Diego how do you think Cravens would have performed?  He would have probably been the first to lie down and go through the motions.

I'm not sure what they should do. It is a need position and they sure need players who can create turnovers.  But I just don't trust the guy to be all in.

^ it was more than personal issues apparently. He had some post concussion thing apparently. If true, it makes sense why he needed to get it checked out.

Whatever it was it was handled poorly by him and his agent I doubt he plays for this team again how does a team and player come back from something like this I just don’t know I want my draft  pick back but won’t get it so oh well...

JP Finlay said he knew there was a seriously family issue going on for him at the same time as the post concussion thing.  Not sure what to make of it but if I had to give him the benefit of the doubt, sounds like the dude was depressed and he was coming off a leg injury of some sort and too distracted to play football.  Just a guess.  Even if so, the issue is does it happen again?

Serious family things are usually best dealt with by videoing Jersey giveaways. It's the first step.

Yes, but he should have let someone on the team know about the concussion issues. He said it was a personal matter and just quit.

Don't want him back on the team. Trade him for whatever we can get and draft another safety.

The post concussion thing sounds awful lot like the claim that SM was still grieving the death of his grandmother.  I don't mean to sound insensitive but I'm just not buying it, sounds like an excuse.  As posted in September if it's a health issue then come out and say it, everyone would understand. Instead the way he did this left us all to wonder.  We heard him in that clip with Compton.  It was pretty clear that his heart was not into it.  His practices appeared to be more like a shift in the coal mines to him, he was just trying to get through it.  I just don't see that changing.

Again I don't mean to sound insensitive but thousands of players have had personal issues. They didn't up and quit, then show up on the sidelines of their college team cheering like a madman.  No this sounds like a man who has run out of game check money.
