What expectations do you have for the 2016 season? (merged)

I know the team got hot and went to the playoffs last year. I also know that the NFC East wasn't as weak as many people think it was last year (It wasn't the NFC Beast though). So winning a division title in the first year of Scot Mccloughan could have expanded the future expectations of some. As for myself, I'm still not too far removed from the memories of the 2014 season when the team was horrible.

Granted, the 2015 was a wild success. We found a QB that can at least run the offense the way it's meant to. The team pretty much eliminated all non-football drama. They brought in players that actually like to play football, and we also got a little younger.

I know this is only week two of free agency and the draft is still to come, but I think we'll be a better football team this year. Unfortunately just because we'd be a better team does not mean that we'll go to the playoffs. I'd be perfectly fine with that honestly.

So, I ask again... What expectations do you have for the 2016 season?

7-9 or better and I am happy. This is a long term rebuild and I for one dont think last years results should really matter with this years team. As long as last years and this years draft picks show progress I will be happy. With Scott's philosophy we are still a couple of years away from being a consistent contender. 2017 season is when the real fun begins IMO.

We had a great home record last year, I don't expect that to be the case this year as our opponents are much stronger.  The NFC East last year was bad b/c of flukes/injuries so I expect them to bounce back as well.  Dallas is the most talented team in the division and provided they can keep romoSUCKS on his feet (which is a big question) they should be much better.  The Giants were a good team last year with bad luck.  They lost a lot of games by 3 points or less.  The Eagles will be the doormat of the division.  I'm predicting an 8-8 season and I think that's if a lot of things go the skins way (injury risk, running game; secondary).  I think Kirk will be solid, but I predict that Reed will get hurt again and he pretty much was the reason for our hot streak last year.  I'm still very concerned about our run game (Jones/consistency/ball security), but with Moses and Scherff having another year in the system maybe it will pan out.

Home opponents (*playoff team):

Dallas Cowboys (win; 1-0)

New York Giants (win; 2-0)

Philadelphia Eagles (win; 3-0)

Cleveland Browns (win; 4-0)

*Green Bay Packers (loss; 4-1)

*Minnesota Vikings (win; 5-1)

*Carolina Panthers (loss; 5-2)

*Pittsburgh Steelers (loss; 5-3)

Away opponents (*playoff team):

Dallas Cowboys (loss; 5-4)

New York Giants (loss; 5-5)

Philadelphia Eagles (win; 6-5)

*Cincinnati Bengals (in London; loss; 6-6)

*Arizona Cardinals (loss; 6-7)

Detroit Lions (win; 7-7)

Baltimore Ravens (loss; 7-8)

Chicago Bears (win; 8-8)

detractors say the 9-7 record and the division title were a result of having a soft schedule ... I guess their is some validity in that.   Of hte winning teams we played, the games were not even close, we were beat down pretty good, except for ATL.

That being said, I'm going with 11-5 ... I think Jay is going to hit his stride, the D and Run game can only get better right? We got our kicker and punter solidified.   Tony and Eli are on their way out and Sam Bradford is ... well,  :P

I'm assuming Kurt plays well again this year, he's a humble dude, a worker, he's gonna get paid and think that will motivate him more than anything else.

What I would really love to see is a go to WR emerge.  Someone to compliment Reed but also be a game changer. Have the ability to catch 9  balls for 175 yards.  I'm looking at you Crowder - yep, all 5'8 180 lbs of you! Antonio Brown is only an inch or two taller and not much heavier, and I will bet anything on this, Crowder is just as quick

More than anything I think Scot is making sure an identity is being built.

It's so early...

As of this moment, I think I'd expect something .500 or better. How that places us in the division is tough to predict. The Eagles and Giants SEEM like they may take a step back, but you never really know. Also, romoSUCKS appears to be the key to the Cowboys, so they could improve.

The past 20+ years has really killed any expectations that I have going into a season. Especially when you consider how we've recently followed up success (2000, 2006, 2008, and 2013). So I find myself tempering my enthusiasm and expectations just so I'm not wildly disappointed (see the above paragraph). However, without the coloring of the past two decades, it would be reasonable to expect a very good passing game, an improved running game, an aggressive defense with fewer holes, and a solid special teams. If I wasn't so beaten down by disappointment in this franchise I would be talking about finally eclipsing 11 wins...something we haven't done since we were world champions and I hadn't yet kissed a girl (I'm 39).

So what the Hell - let's say that my expectations are that we build on the modest success of 2015 and improve by 1 or 2 games. We also win a playoff game and have a playoff showing that we can be proud of. Not sure how much of that I truly believe I'll see, but it's reasonable.

I dint care about overall record as much as I want to see marked improvement on defense. We've got a few guys now, I want to be put of the bottom third of defenses, however you want to measure that.

I think the offense should be fine barring injury. But I want to see the defense take a huge step forward, finally.

It's been more than a decade since the skins had a truly good defense. 2004-2005 defenses were very good. Since then (raspberry)

As far as expectations, show me consistency, game in/game out. Find what you do best and perfect it, compete, hell threaten, each and every game. Sustain drives, show me the D getting off the field, let's see sustained ST play. Give me that and I'll deal with whatever comes along.

With the exception of one poster, I'm really surprised at the tempered expectations.  They are realistic and I agree with them.  Just didn't expect to see them here.

I think it's because we're tired of these one year playoff runs followed by years of mediocrity.

I know I'm getting tired of seeing the Patriots, Packers, Steelers, and Ravens have these long runs of success for the last decade and we're getting excited for one division title. I want some consistency like LD0506 said. And I know in order to get that, we're going to have to erase 20 years of ho-hum football. So if I have to sacrifice 2 years to get sustained success, I'm all for it.

I expect the run game to be improved...

I expect us to be competitive against the better teams in the league...

I expect us to be in the playoff hunt entering December...

That's about it for now lol.

This is right where i'm at. Continuity is golden...& highly underrated. What we haven't gone out, & signed, we will essentially be adding in the way of guys getting healthy. In Soccer terms....those are just as good as new signings.

I want to wait until the Draft before i can get a better feel, & then i'll want to wait until TC, & so-on.

Still...despite our assumed "monster" schedule, i would start at 8-8/9-7 as a base expectation. Besides....those "monster" teams have to play us too.

Honestly, I'm thinking we will be around 7-9.

I think the offense will carry over most of its success from last season, maybe even in different ways i.e. effective rushing  or Crowder taking it up another notch.

However, I look at the schedule and it's really difficult to see a bunch of teams we are better than at this point knowing what we know.

The defense is mostly filled with average or below average talent and the league is catered to the powerful offenses we have to face. So, I really don't trust our defense as a whole and even with a great defensive draft, GOOD vets on that side of the ball are needed to be relied on and we only have a couple of those. Too many unknowns on the defense right now with guys we will be relying on to play above average and beyond, specifically Galette and Duke Ihenacho. I know we didn't have them last season and still did well but it's going to be another story as I think all the East rivals will be improved.

Last but not least, I still think Gruden is not a great head coach. He knows offense and has done a good job with that but he does some really DUMB **** on game day and appears to be slow reacting to things. He had a great improvement last year because the first year was a disaster and he looked unqualified to be an NFL coach. I am not saying he's the worst out there but he is not the guy to lead this franchise to the consistent success many are looking for. I think once Scot builds the roster the way he wants and his 'vision' is more fully realized, Gruden will end up being the weak link for the organization on Sundays.

I feel like next season will be a minor setback for where we want to go and some of it is just needing more time to build a real, playoff caliber defense and some of the lost games will be because our less than stellar coaching staff.

Given the minimal change, but getting a lot of injured bodies back... I think 8-8 should  be our floor. We advanced from a putrid team to an average/slightly above average team last year.

We need to see more improvement on the defensive side, special teams, and the run game, but our strengths were real strengths and look to improve. Moses and Scherff should be better. Long/Lovaou should be better. Our OC learned a lot last year and should get better too.

I still don't know what we have in Barry, but suspect he's at least average as a DC. Again, the defense improved from garbage to stinky. Hopefully, they have another jump in them.

One of my big hopes is to not play down to the competition as we have in previous failed regimes.

Beat up on the bad teams. Be competitive with the good teams and have an identity.

NFC East Championship and at least 1 Playoff Win.

8 to 10 wins- whatever it takes to win the division again.

You expect a playoff win?

This is difficult. Certainly everyone in or out of the division is getting better...but then again, so are we.

Kirk looked like a beast at the end of the year, but then again, we didn't play against teams with a winning record until we ran into the buzzsaw that was the Packers.

Our running game *has* to be better this season...not saying we need to get better...I'm saying it can't be any worse...it just can't....so chalk that up as a win. Same goes for our run defense...it simply can't get any worse....

Kirk gets a full offseason and he's paid. Galette comes back and hopefully stays healthy...Galette/Smith/Kerrigan sounds like quite a setup.

Secondary is questionable at best...hard to say anything until we draft.....

I think we'll be a touch north of what we were last year even considering upgrades other teams will have....I suspect Philly will struggle just because of a new coaching regime...I think New York will be the NFCE dumpster fire with Vinny Cerrato handing out monster contracts and a brand new coaching staff.... our biggest obstacle to an NFCE Championship is Dallas and I don't think RomoSUCKS lasts 16 games.

I think we win the division...I hope we at least win our first playoff game...bottom line is that once the playoffs start, we're all 0-0 and anything can happen....

For the first time in a long time, however, I feel like my unbridled optimism is actually rooted in a bit of fact....

We shouldn't be a Super Bowl team this year....but we've got enough that it *could* happen....in two or three years, however, we're all going to be popping corks and adding trophies 4 and 5 to the franchise...
