Idk how you keep your job after that presser. Especially when you’ve already admitted you were unaware of your team’s playoff scenarios

He would not have been unaware if he had put Howell in after the bye or at least in the 2nd half of the the Browns game instead of Wentz. That to me was the bigger failure.

I know we all wanted Ron to throw the flag on that 4th down play but in all honesty it probably would have stayed as a catch. The refs really seem to not want to admit they were wrong ever. We've all seen over the years even when the commentators all agree about it and it is plain for the viewing audience to see, they stick with it anyway.  Like if they had called Dotsons a catch it would also likely have stood.

They have "specialists and coaches" for everything. You would think there would be someone outside if the head coach who's job is to key on these types of plays and relay a quick decision. Not absolving Ron but obviously it's a huge ****ing deal that changes entire game outcomes.

I mean if that person is supposed to exist and doesn’t then that would be on Rivera as well. This is his show. So yeah, you aren’t absolving him you’re just finding a new and exciting way to blame him (for good reason)

Tbf, his group took control over the team in late July.  The make up of the team, including the FO and the coaching stuff is done at that point.  It would scream dysfunctional for the ownership to inject a shadow FO figure so late in the offseason (one with enough power to essentially override Rivera and force him to trade players).

This season is a punt.  We all knew Rivera wasn't the guy and that his future in DC is non-existent and I'm sure Harris and his group felt similarly.  Unfortunately, they got in too late to do anything about it.  It is what it is.  Let Rivera continue the clown show till end of the season and then hire a new GM who can come in, clean house, and start the rebuild process.

It's amazing to me that people have bought into this narrative.  The team is already dysfunctional and why would a new owner stepping in and taking advantage of opportunity make it look more dysfunctional? So out of what, professional courtesy we're supposed to sit back and wait until the season is over because "that's what everyone does", that's such an ignorant take IMO.

Let Ron ride the season out as coach but dont let him F up opportunity that could bring us value next season.

That, being out of contention and not knowing it, and not knowing that Howell is good are the three stupidest things I've ever heard from a coach, and he's done all three.

There was a Ben Standing tweet earlier about the players telling Rivera about Paul,.like he was unaware...

You can’t hit rock bottom in an abyss.

It is no longer an abyss, people just lack perspective and the ability to look past the short term. This is a great time to be a Washington Whatevers fan despite the Rivera train wreck. The best time in decades.

Gonna make one post about officiating.

It's not, and never has been, a "rigged system" where crew members on some games have been "ordered" to "assist" certain teams to a win for whatever reasons would be proffered by the "believers."

Not trying to be insulting, but anyone who truly believes it is,  is simply not being intelligent.

The claim is not, from any rational, logical, or evidentiary approach, even remotely credible.

Refs can be bad at their task, and it's always theoretically possible that a given ref in a given circumstance allows some conscious or subconscious bias towards some team or player to affect him, but the league and each crew reviews all calls and competency.

Refs are dismissed without much publicity if failing to meet standards.

I think actual biased calls occur very, very rarely just by logical deduction when you consider all the factors involved.

Nonetheless, I also think officiating is still too incompetent, or more kindly, too many bad calls are made too often, to be accepting of the status quo.

Now even while I understand how difficult that job really is, I want changes like making the refs full time paid professionals that have to pass demanding examinations etc.

Hell, I'd like to see all key calls reviewed and even start looking at getting AI involved 🤓🤖😁.

Venting over gross incompetence and even calling for heads at this times is something I'm fully behind.

But the actual "fixed/rigged" dialogue is at best emo stuff that's almost always presented at an unintelligent level. At worst, it can read like spazzing stupidity.

I sure hope you are right. Personally I had more fun in 2012.

I know, but I don't want Sam to have a 3rd new offense in three years. He seems to be doing just fine with EB, why rock the boat. Sam hasn't been great (he was pure trash against the Giants), but he's not the problem with this team. The offense isn't really the problem with this team.

If that’s what you want then you should be rooting for EB to keep improving the offense and focused there. Right now he won’t get another OC job. No one is taking him from us to be a HC. Period that shouldn’t even be in your mind at this point.

That’s what I want for the same reason. But right now him being our OC is a stretch unless he calls these kids of games more consistently. And I say that ignoring the few terrible calls he made today.

Emotional high after a win is true, but I know the smart thing is to lose games but play well while you lose and today we did that.

I want that top pick because it either means you get the top QB or you trade it for 3 #1s and now you have 2 first round picks for the next three years.

Not a definitive plan for success but these wins are meaningless, the team isn’t good.

“but I know the smart thing is to lose games but play well while you lose and today we did that.”

I understand that sentiment, but that’s an unlikely scenario. If you lose a game, It’s likely you didn’t play well, or “show” well.

But I do agree with the overall principle- you have to resort to the extremes of the bell curve.

You have to fail pretty badly to stock and accumulate generational talent( at least it gives you a higher likelihood of doing so).

However, that’s difficult to accept, then this sport is played once a week, and fans live and die on every singular play.

I imagine if you asked most fans, today, on this message board, whether they would have preferred to win, or lose( because it might put us in a position to strengthen an build out future)- most people would say they’d prefer the win. Because of the emotional build-up of a weekly played sport.

I probably would have preferred a win too, even though I know it might affect this franchise's future. We‘re human.
