I don't think a lot of you understand: I work in an industry where Hispanics are widely hated, but almost always hired. These "MAGA Americans" only care about these people if they can do something for them, its almost like a new form of slavery. I've even heard some say that they deserve whats happening to them because they shouldn't try coming over here in the first place. You're not going to change the minds of those people.

"In a threatening manner"

I have only ever heard that phrase used by upstanding and honest officers of the law and I have no reason to suspect otherwise....

Like then they said that dude with the trash grabber thingy was threatening them.

Yea, this is the other side of my “what a hero” comments about AOC... These people are customs and border patrol officers... threatened by a us senator... sure... suck it up butter cup.

What part is not true?  Serious question.

i believe she said the women were being told they could drink from the toilet when they asked for water. Not that they were  forced to drink from a toilet.

It’s not torture, it’s “enhanced detention”

So, no one is forcing the women's heads into toilets, and ordering them to drink whether they're thirsty or not.

They're simply being told to drink from the toilet, if they want any water at all.

Which, as we all know, isn't "being forced to drink from a toilet" at all.  That's only the first one.  And the first one is wrong, but it's not happening.

I know what you mean but the semantics matter in this case because AOC is going to be bashed for a week over claims she said CBP agents were holding their heads into toilets making them drink.

I'm inclined to say telling that to a detainee is forcing someone to drink from the toilet.  Did someone ask Conway whether it was true?

AOC said that, in response to a woman detainee complaining that there was no running water in the holding area,  a Border Guard told her dismissively to drink out of a toilet.

She he did NOT claim that detainees were forced to drink out of a toilet.

The anecdote showed the callous indifference of the Border Agent to the pleas of the detainees, by giving a dismissive, snide and disgusting response to a request for water.

The reason the Kelly Anne Conway openly lies is because statistics show that those who get their news from the media outlets that interview her and don't fact check and/or ask follow ups, don't watch or consume any other sources for news so they take what Kelly Conjob says as truth.  If she said "AOC Said........" then that is what the viewers will believe.

Yeah but really please do not compare the conditions over in the Border detentions to Naz* Germany. As at least those people in the detention center are alive. Not ruined by genocide as there is a difference. Border Patrol has a point to not let people like her not humanize them.

Again, most Jewish groups, survivors, historians, and scholars have come out to say that the parallels are undeniable and shameful. Those who know and who've studied it see it. It is not wrong to draw the reference.

They are not death camps, but they are apparently run in a way in which hygiene, health care, and medical conditions are very poor. Overcrowding, lack of basic supplies, no supervision of children... So much so that we are seeing people die there because of conditions created by the camp.

The facilities are most similar to interment camps. The way they are run, and how they treat especially children are not in any shape what we should aspire to or be proud of. They were built to be cruel. They were designed to cause harm. That was the plan. The fact that the Trump Administration is arguing that they can be held indefinitely and with no due rights in court should also be chilling to those who think about it.

Which was a nice way American government used to say concentration camps.

Good podcast episode from NPR’s Code Switch on this:

https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510312/codeswitch

Opens with a Japanese-American museum curator on why she pushed to call the rounding up of Japanese-Americans during WW2, concentration camps for her museum exhibit.

No one compared the conditions at the border to the Nazi death camps except you and others who want to minimize the horrific conditions there.

And to be real, corporate media won’t push back either.

Well, guess we fave some facts disputed.

Let's let the media in.

The Red Cross?  Amnesty International?

Let them appear in court, with their lawyers?

Let the ones that can, post bail, come out, and speak when there aren't guards standing over them?

People defending this ****. Great hill to die on. You’ve done yourself proud.

it is inhumane and anti-American to treat people, anyone this way. Hell The police would be called for neglect and cruelty if there were dogs or other animals being treated like this in somebody’s neighborhood.

Think about that you asswipes that want to get into a semantics war to avoid actually addressing the issue. This is a concentration camp. That it hasn’t turned into a death camp yet or if it’s slightly better than a camp that genocides millions of people doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change the argument any but it does show you for who you really are: pieces of ****

Agreed.

No.  It's not.

And if you have a problem with how terrible it is that people are engaging in a semantics war, then stop firing salvos in it.

Are there some parallels?  Yes.

Is it right and moral to point out said parallels?  Yes.

Are there also differences?  Yes.

Are said differences important distinctions?  Yes.

Yeah.  How can I dispute such a well supported, logically expressed, example of reasoning?
