The Bruce Allen/GM Thread

No one on this site/page has a truly reliable source of IF Bruce is going to stay or be released.  I think that is fact.  If and when it happens, either he stays or goes John Keim is a Skin's beat reporter than can be trusted most to report/confirm it, IMO.

They’re all saying about the same thing at the moment.

I never thought the news would break during the day.  I can also see Dan really wanting the future state in place before announcing Bruce is our and that could take a little bit of time.

Remember, Dan came to this realization in the last 3-4 weeks.  About 5 years after the rest of us. So just getting things set takes a minute.

There’s a chance this happens late tonight or early tomorrow.

Its also possible it takes longer.

Or Dan changes his mind.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m an extremely stable individual.

lol

A national reporter like Schefter or Russini will scoop the hell out of Keim and 11 minutes later he'll quote tweet it saying "working to confirm, lots of different info out there right now"

News media got all of you worked up over the last 2 days saying a big announcement was coming yesterday and then after it did not show up yesterday then it was today.  Just proves they don't know anymore than anyone else.  Sports media people are just like other news people.  Unrealiable blow hards.

Well, of course except I'd even question, Russini.  I said Skin's beat reporter, dude.  I guess I should have made that clearer.

So, really, how important is the timing of a firing of a Bruce Allen when it comes to the next head coach?  Folks are saying coaching searches are happening the week of Christmas, but I've always thought this was an off-season thing.  Which is why I think Bruce is gone, fired, resigned, whatever ... In the offseason.  Probably the very beginning of it.  At best, doing it now is just saying you're serious about making a change , but will it really make a difference to potential head coaches?  If it's happening , there's already conversations happening about it, so firing him now only serves to appease angry fans.  I'd love it as much as anyone, but I'm not sure it would give us a head start or a great coach.

If you are going to hire a GM and then let the GM hire the coach, then yes timing of a firing is important.

You want the new GM in place asap, presumably no later than 2 weeks after the season ends.  Then that GM will have time to get a coach.

The later you wait to hire a GM, ihat GM is hiring the new coach; you fall behind the other teams.  There will be far better options for head coaching candidates than Washington.

My guess, if Bruce gets fired before the season ends; Dan already has someone in mind and it's not someone from outside the organization.

By and large, in the Shanny and Gruden years, the quarterbacking has been good enough to win.

Incorrect.  Except for four years, the quarterbacking has ranged from bad to god-awful.

The four years with good quarterbacking were the only years the team was competitive.

Here's another way of looking at it: if none of the other 31 NFL franchises would consider your local fan favorite radio guy for a GM job, then maybe that's a sign that his former playing career and relationship with local fans is weighing WAY too heavily in your thought process.

Thank you! People need to apply that logic to every player/coach/janitor/celebrity named in this thread.

Show me his cell phone bill this season, and I'll tell you who it is.

Got to be Alex Smith then, they are new best buds.

Another day and I expect nothing.

Right , meaning we should hope it happens once the season ends.  ****, I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce himself was convincing Dan to hire his replacement from within.  I just want us to run the way normal teams do.  Cut the fat, get a new opinion from a new guy and go from there.  But yeah, as you said, quicky, as in the first couple weeks of the offseason.    I'm afraid that Dan's afraid to operate under such a tight window and might already think he has his answer before exploring off-season options in a quick manner.  He might be too impatient to do so.

They grew up rooting for the Redskins. Now they’re cheering for the Ravens.

It had been multiple things, from [Robert Griffin III] and the Scot McCloughan fiasco to the Kirk Cousins contract,” said the 33-year-old IT specialist, who, like Simmons, was raised in a Redskins-obsessed household in Prince George’s County. “It was just like chipping away, chipping away, chipping away. That was it. I said I can’t do it anymore.”

But Simmons, Nelson and others didn’t just quit on the Redskins. They also started rooting for the franchise that plays about 35 miles north of FedEx Field, the team with the AFC’s best record, the NFL’s leading MVP candidate and a fan base that, at least for now, is having fun watching football.

...“People can stop supporting Snyder and become apathetic, and a lot of my friends have, but what I think would make him more upset is if we jumped ship and started supporting the Ravens with our dollars, and then be public about it,” Gore said. “The Ravens being good has been a fantastic bonus, but really sticking it to Snyder is why I made the switch.”

...Simmons is a case study of the obsessive and increasingly disgruntled Redskins fan. In September, he cut short a work trip to Spain to be home in time for Washington’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. The following week, he lobbied the commissioner and opposing coach of his son’s youth soccer league to reschedule a Sunday game for Wednesday just so he could watch the Redskins lose to the Dallas Cowboys. Even the most die-hard fans have a breaking point, and for Simmons, it was watching Allen’s news conference in the wake of Gruden’s firing.

“PR blunder after PR blunder got me to the point that the Redskins reflected so negatively on my identity that I was embarrassed to be a fan," he said. “I couldn’t justify it anymore.”

I don't have it in me to ever change teams but I wonder how Dan deals with articles like this?  I gather just ignores them?

"I bought this team for the diehards, those fans obviously aren't the diehards."

I think this type of delusion is pretty easy to maintain for a guy like Snyder honestly. It's the cold hard numbers and constant media pressure that can have an effect over time.
