General Mass Shooting Thread (originally Las Vegas Strip)

Flicking through the channels saw Beto being interviewed. A journalist asked ...

“Sir, regarding the manifesto and everything that was in it, fears about Hispanic immigration, all that, does any of this fall at the feet of President Donald Trump and his rhetoric that’s been growing turnover last couple weeks and his alleged racist Tweets and other rhetoric?”

“Yes,” O’Rourke replied.

“We’ve had a rise in hate crimes every single one of the last three years during an administration where you have a president who’s called Mexican rapists and criminals, though Mexicans immigrants commit crimes at far lower rate than those born in this country.

“He is a racist and he stokes racism in this country,” O’Rourke declared. “And it does not just offend our sensibilities, it fundamentally changes the character of this country and it leads to violence.”

Assault rifles are loud as crap. He was caught alive, so it doesn’t seem like he was planning to die today, unlike some of the other shooters in the past.

Yes, I'm aware they are loud.  Thanks.  But when have you ever seen a shooter wear PPE like that before?  I just find it interesting.

Right wing domestic terrorism isn't a "both sides" issue.

Mass shootings have been a problem long before 2016 to current.  The problem is both sides, imo.  And the bigger issue is the fact that its set up to be a two party system.  After Ross Perot made waves almost three decades ago (1992), they changed the debate rules (increasing the % of the 3 major polls to be included) so it basically makes it impossible for a third party to be included in a presidential debate.

For the record, I never voted for Trump.  I voted Hillary, which I thought was the lesser of two evils.  If I had voted for the person I felt was the best candidate, it would have been Gary Johnson.  Never again will I not vote for who I think the best candidate is, last time I did, it failed me.

For the record, I don't believe either side really wants to do anything for gun control, mainly because of political reasons and votes (and I believe the left uses it for votes from the gun control crowd as much as the right does with the pro-gun crowd ).

This is not fair, Dems tried to get bills passed in the house after Netwon and couldn't even get a vote thanks to Paul Ryan.  Similar thing is happening in Virginia right now following the shooting in Va Beach municipal center.  The only states with universal background checks are ones the Dems have control of governorship and state legislature.

This entire post is a steaming load of nonsense. From red flag laws to stringent background checks, democratic lawmakers have been passing gun safety legislation all across the country at the local and state level:

Right now, there is federal legislation on universal background checks, passed by the House and waiting for a vote in the Senate. It will never get brought up for a simple up and down vote in the Senate. I’ll let you figure out why.

I'm not against gun control, as long as it's common sense. You can look back at my posts in the Gun Control Thread and see that.  I've even said that I'd welcome another assault rifle ban as long as it was the same when Clinton passed it (being grandfathered in)  or if the government fairly reimbursed those who would possess banned weapons under the new ban.

I'm open to a lot of new gun control measures and restrictions.   But right now the right is being assholes along with the left not willing to compromise and implement common sense laws at a minimum.  Both sides are playing to their voter base.   Just like both sides do in regards to abortion, immigration, stem cell research, [insert hot controversial topic here], etc.

Most figure they will die, he was obviously not planning on dying.

Police should have disappointed him.

Well, both sides have had a chance since 1992 to get more **** done and here we are in 2019 with nothing done.  I'm pro gun, but also pro common sense gun laws.  Neither side wants to work together, imo.  If they did, the left would start small with things like magazine capacity, etc. and the right would listen.

Compromise happens when people are actually willing to debate. The House passed legislation on universal background checks and rather than opening the bill to debate and amendment on the senate floor,  the GOP will let the bill die.

I respect your opinion but you are flat out wrong about process. One side is open to policy on this issue  and the other has decided that ignoring the issue is better than even debating.

That is NOT what's happening at all.

These bills are not being voted on when Republicans are in the way no matter what the proposal is, no matter how small it is.  There may be a middle ground between liberals and conservatives in this country, but there is no middle ground with Republican elected officials right now working for the NRA.  We didn't have mass shootings the way we do now back in 1992, lets stick to the 21st century or at least the last decade this has gotten completely out of control, please.

I'm for universal background checks and other measures as well.  Both sides fail us because they refuse to address common sense gun control.  Because it does not benefit their voter demographic.

You can keep on supporting the left if you want.  I refuse to support either the left or right.  Both parties sicken me, tbh.

Dude, during Obama there were 30+ mass killings.  Of course it was less in 1992, that's never been my point.  My point is both parties suck ass right now.  And if I'm being perfectly honest, the current dems suck donkey dick, there is no way in hell I'd vote for any of those socialism pricks.  And Bernie, he's the biggest ****ing joke of them all.

Most likely, I'll either not vote or vote for the best 3rd party candidate.  On a side note, you know I love you bro, RTT represent!

This kind of "enlightened centrist" rubbish doesn't make you look like you're better than everyone else.  It just makes you look like you've got your head up your ass.

Welcome to America.  I predict there will be another mass shooting next week with more than 5 people dead.  And guess what, the odds are in my favor of being correct.

What a sick world we live in.  Guns all over the place, people killing people.  I wonder if it will ever end?  Probably not.

Again. The Democrats have proposed bill after bill. Obama begged for legislation. He stumped for it. McConnell and Ryan wouldn't allow anything. It didn't matter who was in the White House. Today, McConnell will not even allow a vote because he's afraid he might lose.

This is not "a both sides stink" issue. This is a "one side stink"s issue unless you don't believe in gun control and think the cure to mass shootings is "thoughts and prayers". Hell, Republicans even vote against every mental health initiative out there which underscores the lie that they think gun violence is a mental health problem.
