Former DNC Head Howard Dean Slams Gov. DeSantis As Bigger ‘Lunatic’ Than Even Trump

The former leader of the Democratic Party, Howard Dean, has lashed Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis as a “lunatic” for his disastrous handling of the COVID-19 crisis pummeling his state and claiming lives.

“I never thought I’d say this, but I think he may be more of a lunatic than [Donald] Trump ever was,” Dean flamed DeSantis in an MSNBC interview Friday.

Dean noted that at least Trump urged people at his last political rally in Alabama to get vaccinated, even though the former president’s own supporters then booed him.

Dean, who’s a physician and served as governor of Vermont, told MSNBC’S Ari Melber: “I’m actually just shocked by DeSantis ... This guy’s not competent to serve in any capacity.” He also said the governor was “completely out of touch with reality.”

Yes, this is what we’re going to see a lot of now. And it’ll be different wording depending on who is being discussed and in what context. But, it’s going to come down to this:

as amazing as trump was as a cult of personality figure, he was an incompetent moron in terms of pushing any particular agenda or working the system. he just “bull in a China shop”’d everything. Everything.

so now what we have are significantly smarter people, with actual agendas they’re chasing, adopting the persona of trump to grab control of the cult that was created. But they’ll actually use it to push their agenda - cleverly, purposefully, etc.

desantis is smart enough to use the trump cult to accomplish his agenda.

as opposed to MTG or Boebert who are morons that lucked into finding a seat in Congress

cruz, desantis, etc. there’s a couple handfuls of people that, if they accomplish reigning in control of that cult, can do a lot to push the hard right agenda.

Riding that tiger is a whole lot harder than it might seem. The sidestepping, continual crisis mode that works for someone like Trump (disgustingly, he is a master at it) is wholly beyond Ted Cruz.  I expect it's beyond deSantis too.

But no doubt, if someone could pull of the demogoguery and have a disciplined agenda, they could wreak some real havoc.  We are very susceptible to that.

To me cruz is a victim of timing. He tried the Trump shtick before it was cool. I doubt he can get real traction

as far as I can tell Desantis is doing a great job. Most trumpers I know have already vocalized their support for him in 2024 to me, unsolicited btw.

really they just have to embrace the art of dealing with a crisis by basically saying “don’t care doing this anyways”

trumps ability to manage a crisis the way he did was less about him being savvy and more about his supporters not caring…. I expect them to continue to not care.

So...how exactly is this not a terrorist threat?

that's the kind of sickass ignorant pig that way too often represents a standard  gop version of 'white male'

it's a terminally toxic subset that has been a major slice of the gop since i've been on-planet and has been promoting violent 'macho' (= idiot rooster---i.e. joe rogaine) solutions all along...one day that kind of vermin may well get a large segment of their population wiped out by those they keep threatening as a result of their own drooling imbecilic dick and anger issues

just go hop in your tonka toy pickup with it's earth-mover sized tires, ya repulsive brainless weasel, and choke on your tobaccy

Yeah. And I think before trump there was this basic understanding of “you can’t get away with that if you wanted to”

and now, that’s obviously gone.

The real check in the legislature and executive is the voting public. If they signal they’re willing to let you get away with anything…

People are fickle.  I'll promise you there were a whole lot of wives, sisters, etc. who lied about who they voted for to their families and carry on like good 'Murican women folk.  The repulsive factor is not lost on everyone.  He lost, that was those voters giving him a full body check.

And push it they will. Even if Joe gets his 3.5 million infrastructure bill, the 22 voters will probably give the gop full control of Congress. If they win the presidency in 24; expect a hard right turn.

Not saying he's savvy, just shameless (and maybe that's savvy in it's own right) in a way few people have the capacity to be.

What is it about today's discourse that makes you believe that very few people are without shame?

GPeck2000?

I think the gop will be more motivated next year than the Dems. See voter reaction to Clinton’s tax hikes and aborted

Hillary attempt and reaction to Obamacare.

The GOP should just look at Chris Christie as a lesson of what happens when you try to out-Trump Trump.  It isn't going to work.  Assuming Trump does not run in 2024 I am sure there will be some residual support still there for who can sound the most like Trump, but it isn't going to be as massive as these clowns think.

"In a way that few people are capable of".

I differentiate mainly based on the undeniable effectiveness of his continuous stream of absurd BS during his four years in office.

There is a clear demogogue factor and everyone who's shameless, doesn't rise to demogogue status.  Like they said about porn, you can't define it, but you know it when you see it.

And yes, shame is in short supply these days.
