The Sewer That Is The GOP: With All The White Supremacists, Conspiracy Nutters, And Other Malicious Whacko Subgroups, How Does It Get Fixed?

Yes, he would have brought up the Lindell sideshow. But that still doesn't mean you give it as much oxygen. A shorter "two days filled with lies and conspiracy theories was a trainwreck" would have been good for me.

I've seen enough videos of someone at a rally talking about hoaxes and who's going to be sworn in again next week with JFK Jr.

They aren't embarrassed. They won't be. The folks who believe this won't be changed.

I still don't get the "gives it oxygen" take that some have...like if we just ignored the rallies and "symposiums" and stuff it would all die out.

Josh Duggar Tries to Dismiss Child Porn Charges on Grounds That Trump’s Homeland Security Leaders Were Unlawfully Appointed

In one of the most eye-popping arguments in a flurry of motions to toss the case against him, former “19 Kids and Counting” star Josh Duggar claimed on Friday that his child pornography charges must be dismissed because the investigation into him began under a Department of Homeland Security then-run by leaders “unlawfully” appointed by former President Donald Trump.

When federal agents started looking into Duggar in 2019, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was under the control of Acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan, and the probe continued into the tenure of Acting Secretary Chad Wolf. The Government Accountability Office later found that Trump appointed both men unlawfully, circumventing the normal process of congressional approval. Federal judges later ruled similarly, invalidating some of the agency’s actions under their control.

Now, Duggar hopes to benefit from the Trump administration’s actions via a motion arguing McAleenan’s and Wolf’s “unlawful” appointments should torpedo his case.

Bombshell: Two-Thirds of Southern Republicans Want to Secede From the Nation

We suspect it is best to point out that the poll cited in the title above sets out only two-thirds of southern Republicans, not two-thirds of southerners generally. Of course, last time two-thirds of southern conservatives wanted to secede, at least one-third of the southern population were not considered citizens at all. Thankfully, now we count all of us. And, given that there actually are an increasing number of white Democrats that vote right alongside most of the south’s vibrant rainbow of colors, we are not talking about a majority of people wanting to secede.

But that’s a lot of people. A new YouGov poll does state that two-thirds of southern Republicans want to secede.

Now, we ought to get a few things straight. First of all, the moment someone tells them that secession means that the SEC and ACC don’t get to compete for a “national championship” in football, 75% of southern Republicans will drop the idea right there. The other 25% would likely drop the idea the moment someone opened the books and showed them what their budgets would look like were it not for the Pacific Coast and Northeast.

https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/fda-withdraws-approval-from-whatever-drug-rand-paul-is-on/amp

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Explaining that it was taking the action “out of an abundance of caution,” the Food and Drug Administration has withdrawn its approval from “whatever drug Rand Paul is on.”

The agency emphasized that it did not know what drug the senator was taking, or whether he was taking any drug at all, but asserted that it was withdrawing its approval out of a concern for public safety.

“If, in fact, Rand Paul is on something, we want to protect the American people from experiencing the same side effects that he appears to be exhibiting, such as irrationality, irritability, and difficulty processing information,” an F.D.A. spokesperson said.

Quote

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), who has spent the better part of six-year tenure under indictment for securities fraud, committed no crime. That’s the finding of a new report by Paxton’s office clearing the attorney general of unrelated bribery accusations leveled against him by his former employees.

Who could have seen this coming?

I think it's time this thread gets merged with the Trump supporters thread.  The GOP is Trump's party now, and thus the two threads are one in purpose and spirit.

i agree in spirit, but i think the proper thing to do merit-wise is leave this version of an ongoing indictment to run into perpetuity, or until the gop becomes something other than a preserve for the sicker and uglier side of this society :)

at any rate, neither will be going away anytime soon, sadly

Yeah, once the find out the sort of inconveniences they're likely to have to deal with (never mind the full-on depression economy they'll likely have), these "I want to secede" numbnuts would immediately change their tune.

These are people who can't even be asked to put on masks without going full Karen, can you imagine what would happen when they found out the effect it would have on football?

The only way I differentiate this thread with the other one is if the subject of the story is a GOP official. At this point there is no difference between GOP officials and the yokels they represent.

I didn't say that. You don't need to have someone there interviewing the person who talks about how God is going to kill all the liberals for their sins after you've done that at the last rally. We get it. They are ****ing nuts.

There are ways at covering a bomber without giving instructions on how to build a bomb.

"Giving it oxygen" means you're keeping something alive. Noting about covering any of this is keeping anything alive. Jordan Klepper constantly interviews nutjobs at these gatherings and slyly criticizes their viewpoints and actions to their face, and I wouldn't want him to stop for the world lol...but seriously, I want everyone to constantly see just how delusional and even dangerous this faction of the political spectrum truly is. You can't really convey that with a passing "The rally was once again full of lies and misinformation., Turning to sports..."
