The Marine general was welcomed as a moderating force in the Trump administration, but his moves to name Obama veterans to Pentagon posts are irritating allies in key committees.

efense Secretary James Mattis’ unconventional choices for top Pentagon posts and his reluctance to aggressively push for dramatic increases in the defense budget have rankled Republicans on Capitol Hill who say he’s burning through political capital he needs as he begins reshaping the Pentagon.

“We’ve waited eight years for this, to be able to fill these posts with Republicans,” said another top GOP Hill staffer. “We know Trump isn’t part of the establishment and that it’s going to be a bit different, but it should go without saying that a Republican administration is expected to staff federal agencies with Republicans.”

So... is it merit they're trying to drain from the swamp?

I hope some that supported Trump are realizing that he's actually flooding the swamp with poorly qualified, wealthy, Wall Street executive or yes man types.... and oftentimes individuals that fit in all of those categories.  And that Trump's essentially hamstringing the two most respected cabinet members.

Never supposed I'd see such a malicously incompetent and incompetently malicious group of individuals.  Or something like that

Wasn't sure where to put this, however we have discussed the electorate here.

On another forum, we have been discussing Chris Hedges book, Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle. Here's an interesting quote.

“More than the divides of race, class, or gender, more than rural or urban, believer or nonbeliever, red state or blue state, our culture has been carved up into radically distinct, unbridgeable, and antagonistic entities that no longer speak the same language and cannot communicate. This is the divide between a literate, marginalized minority and those who have been consumed by an illiterate mass culture.”

This, to me, is where we as a nation are now.

1 hour ago, visionary said:

“Almost 1,000 civilian non-combatant deaths have already been alleged from coalition actions across Iraq and Syria in March — a record claim,” Airwars said in a statement. “These reported casualty levels are comparable with some of the worst periods of Russian activity in Syria.”

Geez louise .... is this a Mattis shift in how we deal with securing targets and assessing whether the civilian deaths outweigh the target?

Maybe its bc we have lost reliabale eyes on the ground or feed intentionally false info? The Kurds have begun joint operations with Russians as well ....
