Here’s the thing about trumps taxes

not a single person that voted for him is going to give a crap. So long as he didn’t do anything illegal. He will be applauded for paying as little to the government as he could

at best theres embarrassing information about him not being as wealthy as he claims. I don’t see that moving the needle much just chapping his ass.

A lot of effort and outrage is being spent on a topic that even if the dems get their way has little to no upside (baring fraud). Seems like a waste.

Worse, dems could wind up looking silly when they go to claim victory and realize no one actually cares about the thing they worked so hard to get.

Why would he go so far to protect them if there is nothing damaging in them? He has shown guilt in everything he does. How are you missing this?

Guarantee you it doesn't cost him a single base voter, however if it's as it has been reported then it costs him dearly with financiers and investors which will have long term consequences. My guess is that there is illegal activity in there too, most likely with Russia and the mob.

Well what do you mean by damage him?

make people who wouldn’t vote for him anyways like him even less? Sure

make people that did vote for him change their mind and not vote for him? :rofl89:

It’s a tactical error to waste resources on something with no gain (unless something illegal is found, which, the IRS should have already found by now)

he would protect them for the same reason other people fight things they don’t care about - it keeps your enemies occupied.

I dont think im the one missing anything here. I think the dems are going to find trump does shady but legal things to lower his taxes, and probably has overstated his wealth by quite a bit.

But its not going to win them one vote and it’s costing them a lot of time and political capital when there are other things that could win them one vote.

I’m not opposed to the idea that I’m wrong here. But it certainly looks like a lot of effort for no gain at this point.

Pretty sure I think this is already known. I seem to remember articles about Russian mobsters washing money by purchasing places in Trump Tower. That same Russian mob that bailed Trump out when his casinos went belly up and the same Russian mob that got busted in 2013 by the FBI wiretap AT Trump Towers.

Edit..then there is this article regarding Trump's ties to our bobsters (the article is by a Pulitzer prize winner too).

Quote

The picture shows that Trump’s career has benefited from a decades-long and largely successful effort to limit and deflect law enforcement investigations into his dealings with top mobsters, organized crime associates, labor fixers, corrupt union leaders, con artists and even a one-time drug trafficker whom Trump retained as the head of his personal helicopter service.

I agree that Trump's taxes aren't going to do anything, politically.  But I don't think they should be making decisions based on partisan political gain.

I think they should drop it (or maybe let the NYAG chase it, as a "nothing to do with being President, just a plain old tax evasion case" thing.)  Because I don;t think it's something that Congress should be using that power for.

To me, if Trump cheated on his taxes 10 years ago, that doesn't warrant a congressional investigation.  (OK, maybe if somebody can show that someone, currently, is using this past crime to blackmail him, then it's worthy.  Maybe.)

But otherwise, it's just an abuse of a Big Gun which congress has, to try to find political dirt.

You know, something Republicans do, every single time they get the power.  (And which they've already announced they intend to keep doing.)  :)

Politically, no. I think that it could torpedo his businesses moving forward. Debts would be called in. Future deals scuttled. Might lose licenses to do x,y, and z.

True, anything we find on Trump won't move his base away from him and won't gain him any liberals. However, you guys seem to forget about swing voters. You can't win an election without him and as of right now, polling has said he's lost almost 70% of them.

Which is why the dems are **** footing around impeachment. They dont want to lose the middle playing to the left. I argue they got the middle by challenging Trump, but im not Nancy Pelosi.

According to recent polls, the Dems have the swing voters, but you have to consider two things: 1. The election is still a ways off and anything can change. 2. Polls are wildly ineffective when it comes to the Electoral College. Still, I would go for it. At least subpoena the records the SDNY have gotten from Deutsche Bank ...if they can. I'm not sure on the law about that.

Reflecting on him calling Lee "great". (Although I do understand that many regard him as one of the best generals America has ever fought.)  And his campaign's most famous slogan.

The neo-Nazis are at least open about why they admire Robert E Lee. The other GOP chicken ****s still want to gaslight and pretend it has nothing to do with the fact that Lee stood for white supremacy and domination of black people.

Any decent person would evaluate their support for people who stand shoulder to shoulder with Nazis, yet here we are. Big tent party of racists and deplorable.
