Redskins / Dolphins Prediction Thread: Kicking 2015 Off In Style

Oh I know.  But I'm guessing that you're with the rest of your fan base in the (could be guilty of generalizing - wouldn't be the first time) in that no one could run or pass on your defense in the pre-season, and that you were steadily getting better last year, and with the offseason moves you guys made you're just sure to get over the jump now.

Rarely in the NFL does team success translate season to season.  You'd like to think it does, but it doesn't.  That's to say, there is nothing to show that teams will steadily improve year to year based on their performance from the previous year.  So you can't really use that as a metric.  Too many variables.

And forgive this fan base if offseason acquisitions don't get us excited.

I just googled him.  His middle name is Monquez.

I'd say the fan base is the same way. Only die-hard fans believe that we're immediately going to improve.

With me its seeing little, or big, things that stand out this year as opposed to last which get me excited. Examples:

the consistency on defense of forcing three and outs, Earl Mitchell standing out besides Suh, Tannehill's improved footwork and accuracy, Tannehill understanding different coverages and adjusting, Landry looks quicker, Miller is bigger but kept his speed, the OL's run-blocking looking decent.

The one thing that does worry me more than anything else in this game:

Read Option.

Tannehill runs the read option more times than any other QB not named Cam Newton.  Yep, that's right.  Miami attempts read option plays 2nd in the league to Carolina.

Hope our D will be able to blow that up and make em look silly.

Interesting if true. You shouldn't be too worried about it though. We use it most of the time to set up the pass, but if your defense is caught sleeping Tannehill and or Miller could be gone for 10-15 yards.

I really want to see how Miami will use Stills and Parker; I already know Landry is going to be in the slot and Jennings is going to be a flanker but all four have never been on the field at once(injuries, sitting out preseason games, etc.)

So when you say seeing little, or big, thing that stand out THIS YEAR... you would be referring to the preseason, yes?

Ahem... we had a great preseason in 2013.

You also went 4-0 as did the Seahawks and they went on to win the SB. Our preseason wasn't great; we went 1-3 and still could not put away games or catch up, the backup QB situation is a mess, the OL is still unsettled, and we lost our starting FS. I understand what you're saying but we're talking about two different teams in two different situations. Just because I noticed improvements in certain areas of the game doesn't mean I'm automatically predicting a good season.

And I'm waiting to see also. I'm not completely buying into it until I see results but I'm 50-50 right now.

Like I've said, there hasn't been this much positivity with the team since I've been a fan(2009).

I agree the level of hype for the Dolphins is at a high as for recent times.  I checked out the link to the Dolphins fan board and went though the thread.  Going through it, for some of the people posting on it, you would think the Dolphins are the 85 Bears and the Redskins are some high school level team that they are about to blow out.

I've watched plenty of Miami Dolphins games and yeah they can beat the Redskins.  It's been a tough 2-3 weeks of soap opera nonsense around the Redskins and I wonder if that influences their focus-performance. But the Redskins have more going for it than what some of the Dolphin fans on the board believe.  Redskins have arguably a better running game, maybe a better O line, better receivers. The Dolphins have a great D line but the Redskins D line is pretty good.

Do the Dolphins have more talent, yes -- is it by a mile as some there purport, I don't think so.  But to each their own.  :)   One of my favorite football moments involved the Dolphins.  I took my step father (big Dolphins fan) 4 years ago to the Dolphins-Redskins game in Miami.  When we arrived there, it felt like a Redskins home game, it was stunning, about 50% of the stadium was full of Redskins fans, I went to the concession stand with my step father to grab some food, and he was an island surrounded by Redskins fans, it was funny.

The sad thing about sports in South Florida is you have so many transplants down here that the home team can be out numbered by the road team.

Must avoid snark... must avoid snark (not aimed at you ilone)

I am starting Tannehill, Cameron, and Landry in a few of my FanDuel leagues.

Those guys will eat as will the defense as a whole

But you're excited about how your first team looked in the preseason, correct?

Not to derail things too much, but on the preseason talk, preseason is actually a good judge of how good a team is.  I know that sounds crazy, but the last couple years I would look through games and compare preseason results with regular season success.  If you beat them, and they were a good team, you were good.  If you lost and they were a bad team, you were bad..  Now, you have to throw out the 4th preseason game, and keep in mind if a key player(Like Aaron Rodgers) is playing, but it was actually much more accurate than I thought it would be.

Last year we beat Cleveland and Tampa, both of whom would be bad teams, and lost to the Ravens who would be good.  The year before we went 4-0!  But it turns out not of the teams we played would end up with a winning record.   This year we beat some better teams so there is hope.  The Dolphins got a lot of hype from their preseason, but to be honest they played 4 teams that likely are going to be bad this year, Tampa, Atlanta, Carolina, and Chicago.

Just picked up Reshad Jones.  Starting him at my flex spot.

Pretty sure we beat the Patriots in the first game last year.  And out rushed them big time.

Kind of throws that whole theory of yours in the ****ter.

Another thing I continue to see is your fans disregard Reshad Jones. Top 10 Safety.

I don't think we disregard him, nobody here knows who he is in order to do that.

Plus, there isn't a single safety in the league that can cover DJax.  Reshad included.

Must avoid snark... must avoid snark (not aimed at you ilone)

HAHA, I think I know where you are going with that.  The difference is the kid can actually run it pretty well, and knows how to slide.

1. I think Suh will get tired of fighting through the Oline to sack cousins, and by the 2nd quarter, I think he will start picking up Scherff and throwing him at Cousins. Much easier

2. Philbin will be arrested for child pornography by the 3rd quarter. Because look at him. If there was ever a petter-ass in the NFL, it's Philbin

3. Miami Dolphins fans, all 17 of them, will be calling for Marino to come out of retirement by the third quarter. Tannehill will have thrown 4 TDs by then, but hey, Marino would have thrown 6.

4. Dolphins fans will be ecstatic after their win. Well on their way to 11-5 and first round playoff exit.. Just like old times again in Miami!

I'm already preparing myself for the gameday thread. Even if we were to miraculously win, or there's just little honest intelligent call for it, I'm expecting a legion of "dumbass Kirk" and "fire idiot jay" posts.

Hey, wait a minute. That's why we suckered in the new mods.  :P

Fire idiot Jay, damnit! He started that dumbass Kirk!

(Just warming up.)

Anyway, I'll say that we lose 24-17, with our final 7 points coming in garbage time and leading to a last-ditch onside kick with around 11 seconds left (so it wouldn't even really matter if we recovered it) that either 1) bounces harmlessly out of bounds, 2) goes way too far downfield and is easily recovered by the Dolphins, or my personal favorite, 3) is recovered by a Skins player way short of the 10-yard mark, with that player subsequently looking around at the refs and making confused gestures because he can't possibly figure out why it's not our ball.

It's gonna be a long season.

Jay finally sticks to his word, and runs, he runs right out of the stadium into his car amid hurling tomatoes, Skins horrible at home against teams they are supposed to beat. 43-9, Phins score every which way but loose.

Yeah, some people are a little too optimistic. Can't blame them though; the team has potential they're just not consistent(see last-minute losses to Denver, Detroit, and Green Bay). Could have been a 10-11 win team  last year. While I do think we'll win, it has more to do with individual matchups than us just being a better team like most Dolfans think. All games are decided by matchups imo

Better receivers? I'd take DeSean over any of our receivers and that's about it. I don't see much separation between Garcon and Stills otherwise than the former being more physical. Jennings is better than Roberts(Matthews might be better than him too), and then you have two rookies.

Landry < Jackson

Stills <> Garcon

Jennings > Roberts

Matthews > Grant

Parker <> Spencer

Hazel > Crowder
