Larry Posted September 27, 2016 Share Posted September 27, 2016 Just did my own fact check on Trump's claim that Obama had doubled the national debt. 1) I assume that he's talking nominal dollars, not adjusted for inflation. A scale of measure which is chose3n deliberately to make more recent debt stand out more. 2) But, even using that cherry picked measure, it's not true. Gross public debt, when Obama boot office, was $11.8T, and is currently $18.1T. It's close to being doubled, but not quite. 3) And, FWIW, W did double it.
