Down 200% since 2002 against what?

Lol, just about every currency on the planet. Dollar was 2-1 vs AUS, 2-1.2 vs Canada, was 1.6-1 vs Euro, 1.4-100 vs Yen. The dollar lost 50% of its value in a decade. Right now an Aus D, Canadian D, Euro, or Yen is worth about 2x vs the dollar.

Dick Morris (on Fox):

- I feel bad for Obama, he really inherited a mess from himself.

- Polling reflected the same turnout of 2008, I did not think this was going to be the new turnout model.

- I was wrong. Turnout model is different than what we had.

- Blacks, Latino's and young people are greater than we had before (and single white women).

- This is the new America, the percentage of single women, African American's, Latino's and young people are greater than before.

- Unless the GOP changes, it can never win another election.

- If this candidate (Romney) in this economy (bad) can't beat this President (Obama), the GOP can never win another election.

Only thing I'm bummed about is California raising sales tax by .25% over 4 years. I guess its not as bad as Arnold's 1.5% increase from 2009 to 2011.

Dick Morris on Obama working together:

- Fox News Anchor, Barack Obama doesn't have a bipartisan bone in his body.

- The President won re-election by the skin of his teeth; he is the first President who got re-elected by a lower margin.

- This is not a mandate. GOP should work with him when he's positive.

- But we need to stand up against the socialist agenda and stop him from fundamentally changing the USA.

- This is a President that lost 7 points off the mandate he had in 2008.

- GOP needs to stand up and make sure that the big government socialist agenda doesn't get solidified like Obama wants.

- Obama wants to take the country further to the left. Including big treaties I'm talking about in my book.

I find it odd that's it's 3 old white men making these comments on Fox News...

I'm bummed because I see 8-10% unemployment for the next 4 years, more gridlock and spending, tax increases, stagnant growth, and a much weaker United States of America...

I do hope I'm wrong across the board.

Looks like Dick did some waking up last night. This was a winnable election for the GOP but they decided that doubling down on the hardcore Right agenda with their candidates. We've said it for a long time that the GOP is now the party of white men when the lectorate is increasingly multi-racial and female. They appealed with Objectivist absurdity, and screamed against the moocher class, which worked until people woke up and realized that they were the 47%.

John Fund on Fox News talking about disturbing news allowing unregistered voters to vote in Ohio. They are also complaining about Pennsylvania and a mural of Obama. Also highlighting the member of the New Black Panther Party, although John Fund says he's just doing it for publicity. Talking about workers coming in from Illinois who registered and voted the same day in Wisconsin and how it is purely illegal, since they live in Illinois.

John Fund thinking that we need to look at voter fraud. Even if Presidential race isn't close, some state races are close and could have been turned by fraudulent voters.

There may be another thread discussing this (this is the first thread I've read this morning).

But last night, Kilmer was saying something I agreed with. (Which doesn't happen a whole lot. And, I think, might lend it some additional credibility.)

We're in for some serious ugly, in Washington.

America reelected Obama. But we also reelected the "death before allowing Obama to do anything" Congress.

The GOP is going to look at these results, and they aren't going to feel any urge at all to come together and allow anything to get done. In fact, they're going to see that the guy they reluctantly nominated for President, because he wasn't a mouth foamer, lost, but that all the mouth foamers in Congress won.

My gut says that the Fiscal Cliff is going to be held hostage. They're going to be making seriously unreasonable demands. More so than last time.

There's going to be a serious, ultra-partisan fight over the Fiscal Cliff.

There's going to be a serious, ultra-partisan fight over the sequestration.

There's going to be a serious, ultra-partisan fight over the debt ceiling. (Probably more than one.)

And every one of these fights has at least the potential to trigger another Great Recession.

Right now, my gut says that the odds are better than 50% that we will have another recession, in the next four years. Congress will deliberately cause one. (Because they figure that they can blame Obama for it. And they may be right.)

Right now an Aus D, Canadian D, Euro, or Yen is worth about 2x vs the dollar.

1. You're incorrect. The Australian and Canadian dollars are about par with the US right now, and the Euro is at about 1.25 which is pretty close to where it went when the Euro was first created, and down from about 1.50 to 1.60 in the past couple of years (I keep track loosely because we travel a lot). The Yen is currently worth about 1% of a USD.

2. Who cares? Unless you're someone like me who travels to Europe and is affected by the exchange rate directly, why would you want to know how many chips your dollar can buy in London? That has absolutely no bearing on the purchasing power of the dollar here in the U.S., and is far more dependent upon the assessment of relative conditions by currency traders. The dollar recently strengthened against the Euro, for example, because of the debt problems they are having, and not so much with what the U.S. is doing.

What you should be looking at in this case is inflation (how much purchasing power is decreased over time), which has been under 3% for the last decade, and still is today. Even if you don't trust the CPI, other measurements like MIT's Billion Prices Project or the spread between Treasuries and TIPS show pretty much the same thing..

I haven't felt this sence of impending doom since The Peanut Farmer was elected, My small business has struggled to provide health care & can't afford Obama Care. After 11.5 years I'll probably have to relocate & seek employment else where I don't look forward to 12/21/12 God help us all

QFT. Amen sir. I feel the same strains on my small business....providing healthcare and livelihood for 9 individuals has aready been made nearly impossible due to Obama. We're looking at possibly having to cut our operation down to 3 or 4 people now that Obama's been re-elected. Unfortunately, he's killing the small businesses that help run this country.

Reap what you Sow GOP

Millions of highly politically active Ron Paul supporters would have given Romney the edge he needed to win in a few states, especially OH and Fla . All that was needed was to include us in the process, recognize our successes at gaining delegates, and allow some of our ideas in the platform.

But the public rejection of our supporters at the convention sealed your doom.

The GOP told us libertarians in the party, who brought renewed energy, and awesome fund raising at the grassroots level to it, to get lost, and now they have paid for it.

I personally think it's extremely difficult to defeat an incumbent president, unless he has made serious political errors, something Obama didn't do. I also don't think it's the "death knell" for America that Obama was reelected, nor for the GOP party as a whole, rather it will be politics as usual for the next 2-4 years while the GOP tries to identify someone more electable. It was not too long ago that the Democrat party was considered dead and in shambles, so I am sure that the GOP will be competitive in the next presidential election.

The great news is Maryland's education is going to get MUCH better with all the extra $$ from the casino. :) "was that sarcasm?"

So congrats to President Obama! Congrats to Nate Silver for nailing this thing! And I'm a proud Marylander today!

Oh yeah, I also said Obama would get 280+ and it wouldn't be as close as people thought. Go me! lol

I felt the same way. I kenw that early on Romney would have a lead, but kept telling people, wait til NY reports, wait til Cali reports.....and before I knew it, it was over.

Dick's overreacting IMO, and this election wasn't as winnable as many thought. And, even though the 47% comment was a political screw-up, it by-and-large was/is true, although I would bet 1/2 of them even voted for Romney. Obama wasn't penalized for the economy as much as GOP thought he would have been, as the economy was already trending down significantly when he took office and I think the Dems got that message across quite well. For their part, I don't think the GOP focused enough on the economy.

All the best to the President and I wish him & our country the best. He certainly has his hands full. Sometimes I wonder why they fight so hard for such a crappy (and poor-paying) job !

In my opinion, the problem was that Romney was a terrible candidate. My dad, whom I have posted about before, is a lifelong Republican. He's never voted for a democrat. He did not vote. He felt that Romney was too dishonest and couldn't be trusted. The 47% comment, the Chinese outsourcing, his smugness. While my dad was not a fan of Obama, he at least respected one thing. He truly felt that Obama cared about the average person and was trying to do right by them rather than only looking out for big business.

I don't like that we only have 2 legitimate parties. I wish there were viable third parties. I voted against Obama last election, but this time, I voted for him. He was IMO, the lesser of 2 evils. As a teacher, Romney made it clear how he felt about overcrowded classrooms etc...

The GOP is spending too much time trying to revert us back to medieval times. I could care less about gay marriage or abortion. I haven't had a raise in 4 years. I want NCLB to go away. The things I'm concerned about are things that Obama seems to care more about. I don't care that small business owners feel that they shouldn't have to give their workers health care.

I work for a US business managing international sales operations. I don't recognize those numbers.

The pound has weakened significantly since about 2007 versus the dollar for example. The Euro has moved around a bit especially over the last year but is essentially about where it started. There mayjave been some weakening of the dollar against specific minor currencies but compared to major currencies the dollar has been a safe bet certainly over the last 5 years.
