Fair point and like I said earlier, I think Harris will go with a young offensive minded guy, but EB’s only hope is to convince management that he will take Howell to the next level b

Yeah EB is gonna tell the new GM he was hamstrung by an awful OL and mediocre pass-catchers. If he could get some upgrades he'd open up his playbook and have things humming.

It's not necessarily wrong but (ironically enough) a defensive posture and negotiating from a position of weakness. Shiny new toy like Ben Johnson (or whoever else) won't have to justify a bad record. Puts EB behind the 8 ball.

Fair point, but Howell seems like the kind of guy who can adjust.  He just looks like he gets it.

Exactly. Lets not forget Howell wrecked the Cowboys last year in his only start while in a DIFFERENT OFFENSE. Howell will be fine. It is just time to end the Rivera era. It is over.

Just look what a new coach can do.

Houston has been a joke going thru 3 coaches last 3 years but they got it right this year and are currently the 7th seed in AFC. They are ahead of  Buffalo and Cincy, whom they beeat today.

Indy is 5-5 and 10th place.

Get the right coach and gm next year and the turnaround can happen.

EB was came here thinking it would lead to a head coaching gig.  Well, it will lead to the opposite. Either being unemployed in 24, or a demotion to just a position coach.

He's proven he's no OC and definitely no head coach.

Strange target after we put up 26 points on the road against a good D and the QB had 3 TD passes. It wasn’t the O that lost this game.

I said this in the summer that if this season sucks, our defense would be a key reason. Not the only reason but a key reason.  Sam has far exceeded my expectations.

This defense has been bad a long time, not just this season. The front four dline were sopose to be game changing they were not and two of them are gone.

This team need to rebuild the defense and oline the Qb is more then acceptable. The defense is this team weakness, not strength and with all the money put into it should be the backbone of team. There needs to be consequences for this.

We spend a zillion picks on defense, cap room. Go old school in that sense in an offensive driven league. Our head coach is a long time defensive coordinator. Jack Del Rio supposedly is hands on behind the scenes, also a long time defensive coordinator. Yet the defense sucks

Possibly the worst defensive coaching staff in the league.

Agree. It’s a poorly coached team and they had a piss poor off season. Changing that dynamic can bring some fast results

In fairness the offense did little to help the defense in the middle two quarters of the game. In fact the offense was piss poor in those two quarters. Yes the defense lost the game in the end. But the offense was not good for half of the game. Howell had 3 completed passes to WR's before the last 2 drives. The running game is laughably bad. EB is not a special offensive mind. I think that much is clear.

Mind-boggling bad honestly.  They should at least be average.  They aren’t even that.

Agree.

Rivera seemed to want to hang his hat when the season started to the idea that they have a great defense but we need to be patient with Howell who will hold them back some through the growing pains.

The real script has been the opposite. The defense had been horrendous and Howell basically is carrying this team on his back as much as he can
