I'd really like to apologize to everyone about when I fell prey to the 9/11 conspiracy theory stuff. I never realized how buzzwordy and bonkers I really sounded, until I read this post below.

And here I thought you were going to apologize for believing the hype of a wrap being a sandwich...

A wrap is a sandwich. Typical tailgater. Can't even remember what side of the argument you started.

Sean McVay has the Rams players at nearly 100% vaccinated. It’s not like they are that different of a group. This is a reflection of Ron Rivera and the respect he commands with his players. I’m pretty shocked but that’s the reality. Ron talks a good game but the players don’t genuinely respect him.

I would actually attribute it more to the area they are in or from and how each state handles vaccinations and the limits you have if not vaccinated.

Of course this opinion could be off base...

Sean McVay always had his mask down last year. I think his approach was hey this is a competitive advantage. He probably said something like “Who cares about the medical stuff. I don’t like it either but I got it. Let’s win and make more money.” That’s the messaging that works.

Appealing to a sense of community or sympathy for the cancer recovering coach doesn’t work with these guys. Need to make it clear it advances their selfish self interest.

My biggest problem is that your beliefs are not equal to ****ing science. You 'not believing' in the science or vaccinations is stupid. Period. There is no politics in that. There is no faith that changes that.

Hoping for news of a big jump in vaccinations over the next few weeks. If not, this can get real ugly real fast for Washington.

I hope all the antivaxx potatoes fall off the edge of their flat earth before they kill any more people.

When was Rivera screaming or throwing punches? He was calmly explaining that he was frustrated by the number of his players who were apparently refusing to be vaccinated and how it was especially impactful to him as he's immunocompromised from cancer treatments.

And personally I don't really see a problem with calling people out who are refusing to get vaccinated due to believing blatant misinformation and as a result of believing that misinformation are potentially putting others at serious or even lethal risk.

Never said Rivera was doing any such thing......where did you even get that from? I think we should check Vax cards and if they don't have one or "lost it" they should be arrested and given the shot against their will. Or at the very least made to wear a hat that says they are deadly to others and stupid. See where this can go? There are people out there that have assaulted unvaccintated people or those not wearing a mask. Slippery slope when you start calling people out for their beliefs or ignorance as certain people point out. But hey, its the internet and people can say what they like with 0 consequences in most cases. Peace.

That's not how societies and communities work, but keep being terrified of doctors, science and your government.

After they force all federal employees to get vaccinated they should mandate that anyone receiving benefits of any type from federal and state governments must get vaccinated prior to getting anymore benefits. Including tax returns and social security. Can we please move this thread to the tailgate.

There's already thread. What  you fed to do is keep politics and even personal opinions on vaccine; elsewhere.

The reason we are discussing this; the NFL set different rules for vaccinated and unvaccinated players. Also, we saw the havoc Covid caused last year and the nfl doesn't want that this year. So, if unvaccinated players causes a Covid disruption; the NFL has put consequences for that. So, that's why we are discussing that here. We have a high amount of unvaccinated players and that could impact the team negavitely this year.

Nobody is saying the players should get arrested or get the shot against their will, or branded, or given some sort of "star of david" on their shirt or whatever other lunacy is being frothed about on social media.

But the players do have to deal with consequences if they choose to not get vaccinated. Consequences that their employer (the NFL) has laid out as a workplace safety issue and has every right to implement.

And calling out players who are coming at this from a place of ignorance and/or gullibility to misinformation that's out there on social media I think is fine, especially since this could literally be a question of life or death.

So yeah, I'm really not too worried about hurting the players' fee-fees when it comes to this.

They are smart IMO. They are looking at it from their own opinion and self analysis. Not going along with the herd. There is no definitive research out there that says this vax works. And for people with pre-existing issues, it could be a detriment. There are also people that live holistically or even religiously that don't believe in putting unnatural substances into their bloodstream. The US VP spoke to a church about loving your neighbor in a way to persuade the folks their to get the shot. Unbelievable IMO. But this is where we are now.

  • There is nothing weirder than the "I'm a contrarian so that means I'm intelligent" line of thinking. If you think the Earth is flat, you're not smart for going against the herd you're an absolute moron. Everyone believing the Earth is not the center of the galaxy as a herd means common sense prevailed, not that we're sheep.
  • 98-99% of COVID hospitalizations and deaths in this country are now unvaccinated people. The UK just had its Delta variant wave. Last time they had 50,000+ cases a day they were seeing 800 to over 1,000 people per day with the worst outcome, but now that number has not exceeded 150 and many days was well under 100 thanks to the vaccines.
  • You can look at rates of severe illness in people over 65, you can look at the infection rate comparisons between unvaccinated and vaccinated people, there's an absurd amount of evidence the vaccines work, and that doesn't even include the Phase III clinical trials that were done a year ago.
  • Your body literally produces mRNA every second of every day through DNA transcription to tell your cells to make proteins - mRNA is certainly more natural than the weird supplements that lots of "naturalists" take every day.

I do agree though, the way to persuade people is not through anger or yelling, but simply providing accurate data to combat rampant misinformation. But you can find dozens of real world, peer-reviewed studies on the effectiveness of the vaccines. Right now they are reducing severe disease 20-fold and transmission 7-fold.

Re: WFT I think there's a lot of issues at play here including historical racism and misinformation. I don't want to personally attack any of them but for example. Montez Sweat's comments suggest there is also a fundamental lack of understanding of what the vaccine is supposed to do. He thinks it's an STD pill when it's actually a condom. I think expected FDA approval in the fall could also persuade players to get vaccinated, a lot of people are waiting on that.

Ron Rivera tried that.  He brought in Harvard immunologist Kizzmekia S. Corbett to give the team some straight facts about COVID and about the vaccine.  It apparently made an impression on some players who then chose to get vaccinated.

But then you have the - ahem - Montez Sweats of the world, who said after Corbett's session - and this is an actual quote - "I mean, I haven't caught COVID yet, so I don't see me treating COVID until I actually get COVID."

There are real people who still believe that a vaccine is somehow a medicine, and that they don't think they need it until they actually get the virus.  I'm well past the "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" stage with these people.

I dont know Sweat personally. But I do know he had some heart scares in the past. Maybe the Myocarditis issue from the vaccine is scaring him. It shouldnt though. There have been over 1000 cases of Myocarditis from the vaccine. But when you weigh that against the hundreds of millions of vaccinated people he has a better chance of being struck by lightning at practice today than developing the issue from the vaccine. And maybe that is all that needs to be explained to the players. Yes. There are extremely rare side effects. But the disease itself is far more risky than the vaccine.

Sandwich - An item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them, eaten as a light meal.

Vaccine - A product that stimulates a person's immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease.

Teammates will likely defend their brothers decisions to get vaccinated or not. You can't make anyone do a damn thing.

You make your best case to them and give them all the information. At the end of the day it is their decision and you must respect a person's right to choose what they put into their body. Just as Rivera said when the initial sweat story broke.

At some point you have to move forward and say, okay. If something happens we rally behind "next man up". We respect our fellow teammates decision and we will follow protocols to the letter, just as we did last season. The players who choose to pay fines made their decision, and will pay the piper if they test positive. End of story.

The likelihood of it causing a mass breakout and causing us to forfeit a game is slim compared to last year imo.

Unlike the rest of the nation, the locker room isn't going to turn on each other over someone's right to choose to get vaccinated or not. Period. Isn't happening.

I will support all players just the same, if you want to boycott wearing certain jerseys because they chose not to get vaccinated, that's also your choice as well.

You can't pick and choose when you demand support of science either. What about the science that there are only 2 genders? Do we demand that everyone go by the science on that? But that's a whole different subject, one more suited for the tailgate.

For the record. Im vaccinated, Im just a libertarian and will always support the freedoms of my fellow Americans. Freedom of speech without censorship, freedom of choice (and living with consequences of those choices).

Forcing ANYONE to do ANYTHING sets a precedent that could get very scary, very quickly. There is plenty of historical examples of this. See any socialist/communist government, ever.

If a person is Muslim and getting a vaccine is against their religion, wouldnt forcing them to get one be religious discrimination?
