Best deal Washington never made

Today's news made me think about past "almosts." Some of these "almosts" probably were never-weres like the rumor that we were going to sign T.O. every year. Others were probably were really close. What do you think is the best deal we never made?

The first one that flashes through my head was the story that Snyder offered the Bengals two number ones for a thirty-something year old Ocho-Cinco that for some reason Cincinnati turned down. I'm sure there were even bigger, better ones though. Amari Cooper fits on this list though I'd put him below Chad Johnson. What story do you recall?

Definitely the Chad Johnson one since I think that would have cost us our 2010 1st(if I have the timeline right) which ended up being a top 5 pick that was used on Trent Williams.

Just now, Hooper said:

Two firsts for a linebacker from Chicago. Already forgot his name.

ohh yeah Lance Briggs

Bringing in Chick-Fil-A to FedEx......not sure how it works in ATL, but they aren't open on Sundays.

Quoting myself here, but I was right. They are at the Falcons stadium and closed on Sundays.

It’s like having a redacted porn magazine.....everything is blacked out except for the publishing info and the advertising.

wait it is Sunday and that may be too much for some.

I’ll go with it being like realizing when asking for a burger that you saw on TV and they really hand you the glossy silicone and clay prop.....looks so real but not.

Us trying to move up for Mark Sanchez was horrifying. As a Californian, I'd see Sanchez play a bunch and was 1000% aware that he was not a legit starting NFL QB, period, I remain puzzled at his elevation to legit starting franchise guy, I had the same issues with Bortles and Gabbert. Just bizarre. Didn't matter, we made plenty of stupid decisions in-between that made that immaterial, but yeah the Sanchez deal was awful.

I'm utterly stunned at how much Stafford went for, considering he's not a guy likely to play a Brees/Brady amount of years, definitely sounds like he has one more set of 3-5 years and he's done if not much sooner. That was robbery to my mind, but I get it from the Rams perspective. They've got this window after going all in in 2018, they're defense will age out, but the offense got a boost when they nailed the Akers selection, so the offense has enough weapons to compete for a few more years, Stafford should keep the window open until the end of '23 at which point they'll have their firsts back for when it all falls apart.

This kind of trade is precisely why I wanted us to draft Tua last year (wish we'd gotten Herbert instead obviously) and why I badly wanted to lose out for a top 2 pick and didn't care a whit about making a playoff run or not, chemistry, culture etc is irrelevant without a legit QB.

Now we have to pay a mountain of picks for Watson, sign DAK for a ton of money, or just suck, but w/o the pick this year in compensation because we somewhat fluked our way to a division title (thanks to Dallas and Philly Self-Owning themselves all year).

What a nightmare, you don't even get the rookie. deal here, so its like signing a FA to mega millions AND losing picks. What a horror. I'd would love to trade Chase and our '21 1st to move up to #1 overall or failing that, to #2 overall. Pipe dream probably.

One saving grace in landing Watson, he's legit, better than Stafford AND 7 years younger too.

We tried to trade for Jay Cutler and had the parameters of a deal in place until Chicago outbid us.

There is a rumor that Snyder wanted to package the #2 and #3 overall picks to move up to #1 just because playing with his new toy NFL team gave him a little tingle down there but someone was able to talk him out of it.

I thought of another really stupid one but can’t remember it now.

I'm thankful that the Cookes were able to keep the franchise in the family back in 1998-99. I don't recall the guy's name after Howard Milstein's bid fell through (Schneider maybe), but there was some chop-shop telecom guy who almost swooped in and stole the franchise. Maybe it would have worked out, who knows? But I'm happy John Kent Cooke retained the team and satisfied with the 2 additional Lombardis the Redskins have won!

I seem to recall there was rumblings about Michael Vick coming to Washington, post-dogfighting.  Aside from the fact that he wasn't that good anymore, it would have probably angered a lot of the fanbase.

Dude was incredible for a year or two after prison. Still have nightmares about him on MNF just abusing us like a dog.
