The GOP (at large) is still playing the same game.  They are calling the impeachment itself divisive, but that is merely because they are refusing to accept reality and therefore by design making impeachment divisive.  This is about accountability which for 4 years they have refused to apply to the President which is why we got to the events of last Wednesday in the first place.  Trump has gotten worse and looked into more extremist ways to maintain power because every lesson he has learned "on the job" is that he can do whatever he wants with zero consequences.   The fact that 70+ million wanted another 4 years of this makes it clear that the steps towards authoritarianism matter little to these people as long as the populist messaging is one they agree with.

Their political incentives haven't changed.

So even though various GOP leaders floated  “it’s ok to do it this time” through the news over the last 24 hours (cause that’s all those stories were), they still only found 10 to vote for it?

and the 5 that didn’t vote? That’s a vote against impeachment. I don’t care what your excuse is. If you didn’t vote yes then you voted no by default. Even if you didn’t technically vote no.

solid shape the gop is in. Assclowns

That’s fine.

Convict him after he’s gone. Remove all his post-presidency percs. Bar him from running again.

then let sdny and whoever else has a case do their job.

they were never going to convict before 1/20. The only route was the 25th. And pence refused.

McConnell isn’t wrong. That’s not a political game. So. Whatever. Move along as appropriate.

In any case the SDNY or whoever else may have against him, somehow, it's a good thing Pence didn't make a call on the 25th. That would have given an easy excuse to Trump's attorney.

I just heard Mitch won't call the vote, we'll have to wait until after Trump is no longer president. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, I think Mitch knows Trump is gone and likely wants him gone. He just doesn't want to be the one to spearhead the process, just wants to reap the benefits. Why get your hands dirty when the Democrats are more than likely to give you what you want?
