Different topic but which Holocaust? I assume the one in Germany, but there is also the Asian Holocaust that claimed more than 20M lives and occured at the same time (yes, that's my seguy to get to the Asian Holocaust). Not downplaying the Holocaust in Germany by any means. It was nothing short of horrific. I thought that even before going to the museum downtown and one of the internment camps in Germany.

 

I am just dismayed at how little attention is given the Asian Holocaust that actually took many more lives, almost twice as much.  I have been to the mass grave unearthed in Nanjing. Someone bought some property and when they started digging they found a mass burial similar to what the Nazi's did to the Jews. You can walk through the burial grounds and see the stacked skeletons. The total killed in the Nanjing Massacre (also known as the Rape of Nanjing) has been difficult to accurately count. But most agree it's at least 100,000 and likely closer to 300,000. It all happened in a short 6 weeks. 

 

When people wonder why Chinese/Japanese relations are always tense, much of it is due to the 2nd Sino-Chinese war and the mass murders that came out of it, including the Nanjing Massacre. Here is some information about it if anyone is interested.

This is a good point, and I guess the specific wording of the thing I read was "it is/was considered the worst atrocity until WW2" rather than "before the Holocaust" so it was likely referring to both the Germans and Japanese.  

 

And certainly the Chinese/Japanese relationship is fraught for many reasons, including the history from WW2 and even before, but also because at this point, any relatively small and mostly demilitarized country like Japan is going to be wary of it's gigantic superpower neighbor that could easily overwhelm it as soon as it decided to.

Can't find a good number, but generally people on SNAP are out of work often and are less likely to use SNAP when they do work.  I suspect when they do work, they don't work full time.  People don't generally go from not working to full time work on any sort of regular basis.

I don’t see this menthol cigarette ban going over very well. 
 

Also have a huge issue with the logic. Either ban cigs or don’t. Don’t just ban ones that hurt black people more. That’s and absurd position to take and if the government was doing the reverse people would be screaming racism 
 

hell I see a way for people to still scream racism here - targeting black peoples habits but letting whites people continue. 
 

(reducing cigarette type consumption down to race feels super stupid but that’s where the conversation and the news articles are with it so....)

 

(also I’m not for banning cigs. Generally not for the government banning something that only harms you. Regulate it, tax it and use the money for educating the public on the issue, whatever. Not a fan of prohibition of a substance)

Americans support Biden’s spending and want him to spend more, polls show

 

Americans broadly back the big-ticket spending proposals that have defined President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office, a variety of recent polls show.

 

Surveys show many more Americans approve than disapprove of the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill Biden signed into law in March — by far his most significant legislative victory to date.

 

Polls also find Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure plan is already popular with majorities or pluralities of respondents.

 

As he turns the page on his first 100 days on Thursday, Biden is gearing up to unveil yet another massive spending package, this one aimed at addressing family-related issues.

 

The White House has shared few details about that plan — but at least one poll shows a sizable majority of Americans already support it.

i figure the proud boys and the q-tips among the congress-gopers have been restricted from attending tonight's speech in person to avoid potential disruption

 

either way, i'm wondering if one of the attending gopers will find themselves motivated by self-interest enough to let out with a "liar!!" during it, ala obama's first sotu, for all the oan/fox fans...probably a good way to score big $$$ for someone willing to do it
